Gaoyao (Chinese: 高要; Mandarin Pinyin: Gāoyào; Jyutping: gou1jiu3) is a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Zhaoqing prefecture-level city in western Guangdong province, People's Republic of China. Population: 706,000.
Gaoyao is located on the southern bank of the Xi River, just opposite to Zhaoqing City. Both are about 100|km}} away from Guangzhou, the provincial capital.
Gaoyao was established as a county as early as in the Han Dynasty. It was named after Gaoyao Gorge (now renamed Lingyang Gorge) on the Xi River, and became a city at county level in 1993.
