Sun Yat-sen is known as the 'father of modern China'. He spent his adult life fighting against imperial China and the ruling Qing dynasty. First as revolutionary leader and later as politician. He founded the Tongmenghui League in 1905 and supported rebellions in China. After the Wuchang Uprising, Sun handed over the presidential office for the Republic of China to Yuan Shikai who soon after would ban Suns political party, the Kuomintang. So he reformed it as China's National People's party. His military and political work laid the groundwork from which his successors would later call out the People's Republic of China.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Xinhai Revolution—an event that marked the birth of modern China. The man behind the historical change is Dr. Sun Yat-sen, who founded Asia's first republic. Although his contribution is recognized in both Taiwan and Mainland China, Sun's granddaughter has expressed anger over the Chinese regime's distortion of Sun's political legacy.
The granddaughter of Dr. Sun Yat-sen—the man known as the father of modern China—spoke out against the Chinese Communist Party for distorting his legacy. Lily Sui-fong Sun criticized the regime for misrepresenting the political ideals he left behind.
Sun Yat-sen is credited for founding the first republic in Asia. He co-founded the Nationalist Party, or the Kuomintang, and played an instrumental role in the 1911 Xinhai Revolution. That revolution overturned the Qing Dynasty making way for establishing the Republic of China—now the government of Taiwan. This is not to be confused with the People's Republic of China, which is founded by the Chinese Communist Party.
To mark this year's 100th anniversary of the Xinhai Revolution, 76-year-old Lily Sun has been working to preserve her grandfather's legacy. The most influential aspect of this legacy is Sun's political ideal of The Three Principles of the People: nationalism, democracy and the people's livelihood. These principles focused on the idea that a country would only be successful if it was run by the people and for the people.
Although the Chinese Communist Party heralds Sun as forerunner of China's revolution, it overthrew his Republic of China in a civil war with the Kuomintang, which then retreated to Taiwan. The Chinese Communist Party has also retold Sun's Three Principles of the People to be: working with the Soviets, working with the communists, and helping the farmers.
Historian Xin Haonian says this version sought to legitimize communist rule over China, by portraying Sun Yat-sen as the forerunner of communist revolutions.
[Xin Haonian, Chinese Historian]:
"Is the CCP a successor of Sun Yat-sen? The CCP used Marxist theories to counter Sun's Three Principles of the People. It used the People's Republic of China to overthrow the Republic of China—which was first republic established by Sun Yat-sen. What kind of a successor is this? The CCP actually should not even dare to face up to Sun Yat-sen."
In an interview with Hong Kong's Ming Bao over the weekend, Lily Sun said, (quote) "Some people have distorted my grandfather's `Three Principles of the People' and have implemented a string of policies to fool the citizens."
The centenary of the Xinhai Anniversary will be marked in Taiwan as its National Day on October 10th. Lily Sun says she plans to give away 100 bronze statutes of her grandfather to various places around the world, as a way to preserve his legacy.

Nachdem Sturz der Qing übergab er das ihm angebotene Präsidentenamt an Yuan Shikai. Kurz darauf verbot dieser Suns politische Partei, die Kuomintang. Diese baute Sun daraufhin als Nationale Volkspartei auf, die das Prinzip der "drei Volksrechte" prägen sollte. Seine militärische und politische Arbeit legte den Grundstein, auf dem seine Nachfolger das moderne China gründeten.

Sun Yat-sen
Sun Yat-sen (/ˈsʊn ˈjɑːtˈsɛn/; 12 November 1866 – 12 March 1925) was a Chinese revolutionary, first president and founding father of the Republic of China, and medical practitioner. As the foremost pioneer of the Republic of China, Sun is referred to as the "Father of the Nation" in the Republic of China (ROC), and the "forerunner of democratic revolution" in the People's Republic of China (PRC). Sun played an instrumental role in the overthrow of the Qing dynasty during the years leading up to the Double Ten Revolution. He was appointed to serve as Provisional President of the Republic of China when it was founded in 1912. He later co-founded the Kuomintang (KMT), serving as its first leader. Sun was a uniting figure in post-Imperial China, and he remains unique among 20th-century Chinese politicians for being widely revered amongst the people from both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
Although Sun is considered one of the greatest leaders of modern China, his political life was one of constant struggle and frequent exile. After the success of the revolution, he quickly resigned, due to Beiyang Clique pressure, from his post as President of the newly founded Republic of China, and led successive revolutionary governments as a challenge to the warlords who controlled much of the nation. Sun did not live to see his party consolidate its power over the country during the Northern Expedition. His party, which formed a fragile alliance with the Communists, split into two factions after his death.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Xinhai Revolution—an event that marked the birth of modern China. The man behind the historical change is Dr. Sun Yat-sen, who founded Asia's first republic. Although his contribution is recognized in both Taiwan and Mainland China, Sun's granddaughter has expressed anger over the Chinese regime's distortion of Sun's political legacy.
The granddaughter of Dr. Sun Yat-sen—the man known as the father of modern China—spoke out against the Chinese Communist Party for distorting his legacy. Lily Sui-fong Sun criticized the regime for misrepresenting the political ideals he left behind.
Sun Yat-sen is credited for founding the first republic in Asia. He co-founded the Nationalist Party, or the Kuomintang, and played an instrumental role in the 1911 Xinhai Revolution. That revolution overturned the Qing Dynasty making way for establishing the Republic of China—now the government of Taiwan. This is not to be confused with the People's Republic of China, which is founded by the Chinese Communist Party.
To mark this year's 100th anniversary of the Xinhai Revolution, 76-year-old Lily Sun has been working to preserve her grandfather's legacy. The most influential aspect of this legacy is Sun's political ideal of The Three Principles of the People: nationalism, democracy and the people's livelihood. These principles focused on the idea that a country would only be successful if it was run by the people and for the people.
Although the Chinese Communist Party heralds Sun as forerunner of China's revolution, it overthrew his Republic of China in a civil war with the Kuomintang, which then retreated to Taiwan. The Chinese Communist Party has also retold Sun's Three Principles of the People to be: working with the Soviets, working with the communists, and helping the farmers.
Historian Xin Haonian says this version sought to legitimize communist rule over China, by portraying Sun Yat-sen as the forerunner of communist revolutions.
[Xin Haonian, Chinese Historian]:
"Is the CCP a successor of Sun Yat-sen? The CCP used Marxist theories to counter Sun's Three Principles of the People. It used the People's Republic of China to overthrow the Republic of China—which was first republic established by Sun Yat-sen. What kind of a successor is this? The CCP actually should not even dare to face up to Sun Yat-sen."
In an interview with Hong Kong's Ming Bao over the weekend, Lily Sun said, (quote) "Some people have distorted my grandfather's `Three Principles of the People' and have implemented a string of policies to fool the citizens."
The centenary of the Xinhai Anniversary will be marked in Taiwan as its National Day on October 10th. Lily Sun says she plans to give away 100 bronze statutes of her grandfather to various places around the world, as a way to preserve his legacy.

Historian Xin Haonian says this version sought to legitimize communist rule over China, by portraying Sun Yat-sen as the forerunner of communist revolutions.

"Is the CCP a successor of Sun Yat-sen? The CCP used Marxist theories to counter Sun's Three Principles of the People. It used the People's Republic of China to overthrow the Republic of China—which was first republic established by Sun Yat-sen. What kind of a successor is this? The CCP actually should not even dare to face up to Sun Yat-sen."
In an interview with Hong Kong's Ming Bao over the weekend, Lily Sun said, (quote) "Some people have distorted my grandfather's `Three Principles of the People' and have implemented a string of policies to fool the citizens."
The centenary of the Xinhai Anniversary will be marked in Taiwan as its National Day on October 10th. Lily Sun says she plans to give away 100 bronze statutes of her grandfather to various places around the world, as a way to preserve his legacy.

Sun Yat-sen war der 'Vater des modernen Chinas'. Sein leben drehte sich um den Kampf für ein vereintes China und die Rebellion gegen das Kaiserreich der Qing-Dynastie. Erst als Revolutionsführer, dann als Militärsführer und Politiker. 1905 gründete er den Tongmenghui-Bund, ein revolutionäres Netz, dass die Revolution unterstützte. Nachdem Sturz der Qing übergab er das ihm angebotene Präsidentenamt an Yuan Shikai. Kurz darauf verbot dieser Suns politische Partei, die Kuomintang. Diese baute Sun daraufhin als Nationale Volkspartei auf, die das Prinzip der "drei Volksrechte" prägen sollte. Seine militärische und politische Arbeit legte den Grundstein, auf dem seine Nachfolger das moderne China gründeten.

Sun Yat-sen diakui sebagai penemu republik pertama di Asia. Ia membentuk Partai Nasionalis atau Kuomintang, dan berperan besar dalam Revolusi Xinhai di tahun 1911. Revolusi tersebut menggantikan Dinasti Qing menjadi Republik Tiongkok, yang sekarang adalah Taiwan. Ini tidaklah sama dengan Republik Rakyat Tiongkok, yang dibentuk oleh PKT.
Untuk menandai 100 tahun Revolusi Xinhai, sang cucu Lily Sun telah bekerja untuk melindungi warisan kakeknya Dr. Sun Yat Sen. Aspek yang paling berpengaruh dari warisan ini adalah ide politik Sun tentang Tiga Prinsip Rakyat, yaitu Nasionalisme, Demokrasi dan Kehidupan Rakyat. Prinsip-prinsip ini berfokus pada ide bahwa negara akan suskes jika dijalankan oleh rakyat dan untuk rakyat.
Walaupun PKT mengakui Sun sebagai pelopor revolusi Tiongkok, tetapi ia menggulingkan Republik Tiongkok dalam perang dengan Kuomintang, yang kemudian lari ke Taiwan. PKT juga mengubah Tiga Prinsip Rakyat milik Sun menjadi: bekerja dengan Soviet, bekerja dengan komunis, dan membantu petani.
Ahli sejarah Xin Haonian berkata, versi PKT ini berusaha mensahkan kekuasaan komunis di Tingkok, menjadikan Sun Yat-sen sebagai pelopor revolusi komunis.

Walaupun PKT mengakui Sun sebagai pelopor revolusi Tiongkok, tetapi ia menggulingkan Republik Tiongkok dalam perang dengan Kuomintang, yang kemudian lari ke Taiwan. PKT juga mengubah Tiga Prinsip Rakyat milik Sun menjadi: bekerja dengan Soviet, bekerja dengan komunis, dan membantu petani.
Ahli sejarah Xin Haonian berkata, versi PKT ini berusaha mensahkan kekuasaan komunis di Tingkok, menjadikan Sun Yat-sen sebagai pelopor revolusi komunis.

Sun did not live to see his party consolidate its power over the country during the Northern Expedition. His party, which formed a fragile alliance with the Communists, split into two factions after his death. Sun's chief legacy resides in his developing of the political philosophy known as the Three Principles of the People: nationalism, democracy, and the people's livelihood.
