Bruce Frederick Joseph Springsteen (born September 23, 1949), nicknamed "The Boss," is an American singer-songwriter-performer who records and tours with the E Street Band. Riding in Cars with Black People: an interview with author Chad Goller-Sojourner
Earlier this month Chad Goller-Sojourner reached out to me about a new play he has written called "Riding in Cars With Black People and Other Newly Dangerous Acts." It's an autobiographical play that recounts "the story of a black boy, raised by white parents who 'ages out' of honorary white and suburban privilege." As soon as I heard the premise, I knew I wanted to hear more. Chad agreed to do an interview and we had such an interesting conversation. Chad grew up as the adopted child of a white couple in the 1970's. In our interview, we talk about race, white privilege, and transracial adoption. Chad is thoughtful and hilarious, and has such a great perspective on things. I think it will be really insightful for adoptive parents, or anyone interested in racial identity. -

RZA recently sat down on Bloomberg TV’s All Due Respect show to talk about the current presidential race, and his feelings on Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump and the #BlackLivesMatter movement.
It didn’t take long for the legendary Wu-Tang producer to begin making eye-popping comments, qualifying his “Black lives matter” statement with “All lives matter,” before mentioning that he stopped eating meat because “their lives matter too.” As the interview continued, he mentioned that even though “Trump keeps it real,” he’d love to see Clinton succeed Obama in the Oval Office, calling that a “one-two punch.”
If that wasn’t enough, in another clip from the interview, RZA begins speaking about his–and Black people’s in general–relationship with law enforcement, revealing that as a child, thanks to his being a fan of shows like Starsky & Hutch and Baretta, he wanted to be a cop; at that time you invited a cop into your home for cookies and milk. He then unleashed this tidbit, which basically finds RZA saying that if Black people dressed better and carried themselves with more respect, cops and other authorities wouldn’t have negative stereotypes of them, and unnecessary force being used wouldn’t be such a common occurrence.
If I’m a cop and every time I see a young black youth, whether I watch them on TV, movies, or just see them hanging out, and they’re not looking properly dressed, properly refined, you know, carrying himself, conducting himself proper hours of the day—things that a man does, you’re going to have a certain fear and stereotype of them. I tell my sons, I say, if you’re going somewhere, you don’t have to wear a hoodie–we live in New York, so a hoodie and all that is all good. But sometimes, you know, button up your shirt. Clean up. Look like a young man. You’re not a little kid, you know what I mean? I think that’s another big issue we gotta pay attention to. Is the image that we portray that could invoke a fear into a white officer, or any officer.
Maybe RZA should tell the families of Freddie Gray, Michael Brown, Tamir Rice, Laquan McDonald and Trayvon Martin that their sons should’ve worn suits, ties and been a little more respectful. Maybe then they’d be alive today.

The "Get Like Me" emcee also shared his thoughts on why he came back to rap, telling DJ Smallz that a lot of the rappers with a message left the game due to album sales dipping. He added, "We left these kids alone. And as much as they say they want money, you know what they want even more? It's your time."

Guest: Dr. Norman Bergrun is an alumnus of Ames Research Laboratory, NACA (National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics) predecessor of Ames Research Center, NASA where he worked twelve years as a research scientist. At Ames, he pioneered the setting of design criteria for airplane thermal ice-prevention and the developing of roll stability laws for airplanes, missiles and rockets.
He joined Lockheed Missiles and Space Company (now Lockheed Martin) where he was manager of the planning and analysis of flight tests for the Navy Polaris Underwater Launch Missile System. During his thirteen years at Lockheed, he also served as a senior scientist having responsible analysis cognizance of special space-satellite applications. After a short tour of duty with Nielsen Engineering and Research, in 1971 he founded Bergrun Engineering and Research, parent of Bergrun Research founded in 1999 especially for world wide web activities.
An Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronauics (AIAA), he is active as a leader in Congressional Visits Day events on Capitol Hill. As Deputy Director-at-Large for the AIAA western region, he overlooks section activities in seven western states. Other memberships include The Planetary Society, The Association for the Advancement of Science, The Aviation Hall of Fame, the National Society of Professional Engineers, the Federation of American Scientists and the Scientific Faculty, International Biographical Centre, Cambridge, England.

9/14/13 - CNN anchor Don Lemon has, of late, turned the focus of his frequent conversations on race to the idea of personal responsibility in the African American community. On Saturday night's edition of CNN Newsroom, Lemon continued that controversial trend with comic legend Bill Cosby, who has also felt the heat of controversy on the subject. Cosby talked to Lemon about young black men raising their kids, over-medication of juvenile inmates, and may have even coined a new word: "No-groes."
For the past few months, Don Lemon has courted controversy with several segments pegged to his general agreement with comments by Fox News personality Bill O'Reilly, aimed at solving problems within the black community. Legendary comic actor Bill Cosby has also stirred controversy by airing grievances against his community, but neither Lemon nor Cosby have backed away from their criticisms. In Saturday night's interview, Lemon asked Cosby to reflect on the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington, and what kind of African American leaders are needed now.
"I think it has to come from the universities," Mr. Cosby began. " I think, women, strongly because when you see 70%, in research, that says they are the leaders of the household, what we need is for people to realize I want to raise my kid. I want to go back and get my three kids. I want to take on that responsibility. I want to love my children."
He added that one of the sights he'd like to see more of is what he saw at the recent Essence Festival, "walking around to see, yeah, to see a black male with his child on the shoulders and holding."
He also encouraged young people who might not be able to go to a prestigious college to "go to community college. Okay, you backed up and didn't do well. You quit school but now you find you need that high school credential. Go to the community college."
Cosby related the idea of personal responsibility to his own experience, adding that "At age 19 and a half, I knew I didn't want to do certain things. It is not what they weren't doing to me, it's what I wasn't doing. It's a very simple thing."
Later in the interview, Mr. Cosby talked about what he sees as an overemphasis on medicating juvenile inmates, versus counseling. "If you drug these people, and then you release them, and there's no prescription for them to get to take to do the same thing, and they go back to the same place," he said, adding "Now, about this time, this is when you hear the no-groes jump up and say 'Why don't you talk about the good things?'"
"Because the good things happen to be taking care of themselves pretty well," he answered. "We are trying to help those genius', those not genius', people who deserve, because they are human beings on this earth, in the United States of America, we are trying to get them in a position so they will understand and want to."
Lemon asked "Why is it so hard for some people to get that message, to hear that message, to receive that message, and without lashing out?"
"Well, it's because they feel, I think they feel embarrassed," Cosby replied, and related a story about Sammy Davis, Jr. "We were in playing in a routine, and I told him I knew something. He said no you don't. I said yes, I do. I said it. He said no, that's not the way it goes. I said the same thing louder. He said, 'Bill, saying it loud don't make it right.'"
"And so, every loud voice you hear yelling about something," he explained, "and saying 'Well you just — you lost us. You became a millionaire,' the reason why I'm giving you this information is because I was living in the projects. I was not taking care of myself in terms of managing my education, and once the door opened and I saw quote, unquote, the light, I started to become very successful."

It's an autobiographical play that recounts "the story of a black boy, raised by white parents who 'ages out' of honorary white and suburban privilege." As soon as I heard the premise, I knew I wanted to hear more. Chad agreed to do an interview and we had such an interesting conversation. Chad grew up as the adopted child of a white couple in the 1970's.
In our interview, we talk about race, white privilege, and transracial adoption. Chad is thoughtful and hilarious, and has such a great perspective on things. I think it will be really insightful for adoptive parents, or anyone interested in racial identity.

The hashtag Oscars So White was the controversy on everyone’s mind going into this year’s Oscars and since it was announced that Chris Rock would be taking over this year’s hosting duties, the world anxiously waited to see how Chris would rip apart the academy for its lack of diversity in this year’s nominations. He did not disappoint. That monologue, that monologue, that monologue.
Chris then put together a movie montage of scenes from all of the nominated films but inserted black actors to give a boost to thelack of diversity. You didn’t know Tracy Morgan was in the Danish Girl?And possibly the most awkward joke of the night was when Chris introduced Stacey Dash as the fictional new director of the Academy’s minority outreach program. And in case you don’t get the joke, let’s just say Stacey Dash is known for not being the sharpest tool in the tool box and has said some dumb shiz in regard to the black community. i.e why no one clapped.
I wanted to crawl into a hole for her. Chris was on a roll with the Oscars So white jokes and kept them going by welcoming viewers at home back to the show in the puniest way possible.
Chris then went on to acknowledge some of the real life people who this year’s movies were made about including the real Joy and Michael Rezendes from Spotlight. But then he saw an opportunity and ceased it by introducing an unlikely attendee from Straight Outta Compton.
Hint, hint, nudge, nudge, the real Suge Knight is in jail. And how about that moments when Chris called out the Academy once again, throwing some shade while introducing Rachel McAdams and Michael B. Jordan.
And hello you can’t talk about the lack of diversity at the Oscars without acknowledging the fact that it’s Black History Month. To commemorate, Chris put together a new edition to the show.

The hashtag Oscars So White was the controversy on everyone’s mind going into this year’s Oscars and since it was announced that Chris Rock would be taking over this year’s hosting duties, the world anxiously waited to see how Chris would rip apart the academy for its lack of diversity in this year’s nominations. He did not disappoint. That monologue, that monologue, that monologue.
Chris then put together a movie montage of scenes from all of the nominated films but inserted black actors to give a boost to thelack of diversity. You didn’t know Tracy Morgan was in the Danish Girl?And possibly the most awkward joke of the night was when Chris introduced Stacey Dash as the fictional new director of the Academy’s minority outreach program. And in case you don’t get the joke, let’s just say Stacey Dash is known for not being the sharpest tool in the tool box and has said some dumb shiz in regard to the black community. i.e why no one clapped.
I wanted to crawl into a hole for her. Chris was on a roll with the Oscars So white jokes and kept them going by welcoming viewers at home back to the show in the puniest way possible.
Chris then went on to acknowledge some of the real life people who this year’s movies were made about including the real Joy and Michael Rezendes from Spotlight. But then he saw an opportunity and ceased it by introducing an unlikely attendee from Straight Outta Compton.
Hint, hint, nudge, nudge, the real Suge Knight is in jail. And how about that moments when Chris called out the Academy once again, throwing some shade while introducing Rachel McAdams and Michael B. Jordan.
And hello you can’t talk about the lack of diversity at the Oscars without acknowledging the fact that it’s Black History Month. To commemorate, Chris put together a new edition to the show.
