Plot: Four seemingly-unrelated men board subway train Pelham 1:23 at successive stations. Mr. Blue, Mr. Green, Mr. Grey and Mr. Brown are heavily armed and overpower the motorman and novice conductor to take control of the train. Between stations they separate the front car from the remainder of the train, setting passengers in the back cars and the motorman free. The four demand $1 million ransom within exactly one hour for the remaining eighteen hostages, including the conductor. If their demands are not met in time or their directions are not followed precisely, they will begin to shoot hostages dead, one every minute the money is late. Wisecracking Lt. Zach Garber of the transit police ends up being the primary communicator between the hijackers and the authorities, which includes transit operations, his own police force, the NYPD, and the unpopular and currently flu ridden mayor who will make the ultimate decision of whether to pay the ransom. Unknown to Garber, what may be working on their side is the disparate nature of the four hijackers, including methodical and unbending Blue, trigger happy Grey, and also under the weather Green, who may pass out before the caper has concluded. What Garber does know is that there is a plain clothes NYPD officer among the eighteen hostages. What Garber has to try and figure out is how the four hijackers can possibly get away, as they are in a tunnel and have to remain with the train since it has a dead-man mechanism which requires a motorman at the controls at all times.

Quotes:
Mr. Blue: Keep those children quiet!::The Mother: I'm trying, I can't.::Mr. Blue: Do you want *me* to try?::The Mother: Oh my god, no!
[Gray opens the storm door for Green]::Mr. Green: Thanks, Mr. Gray.::Mr. Gray: Don't mention it, uh, Mr. Green, right?::Mr. Green: Right.
Bud Carmody: What's he going to do?::Mr. Brown: You wouldn't want me to s-s-spoil the surprise, would you?
Patrolman James: [reporting a shooting over the radio] They just shot him with a machine gun.::Lt. Rico Patrone: Is he dead?::Patrolman James: Wouldn't *you* be, Lieutenant?
Deputy Mayor Warren LaSalle: All right, Al. You've heard from the Three Wise Men. Now what do you say?::Mayor: What are THEY going to say, Warren?::Deputy Mayor Warren LaSalle: "They" who?::Mayor: Who? Everybody - the press, the man on the street.::Mayor's wife: He means the voters.::Deputy Mayor Warren LaSalle: You know what they're going to say. The Times is going to support you. The News is going to knock you. The Post will take both sides at the same time. The rich will support you, likewise the blacks, and the Puerto Ricans won't give a shit. So come on, Al, quit stalling!::Mayor: Will you stop bullying everybody, Warren? This is supposed to be a democracy!::Deputy Mayor Warren LaSalle: Wise up, for chrissake, we're trying to run a city, not a goddamn democracy! Al, quit farting around - we've got to pay!::Mayor: Jessie, Jessie, what do you say?::Mayor's wife: I know a million dollars sounds like a lot of money. But just think what you'll get in return.::Mayor: What?::Mayor's wife: Eighteen sure votes.::Mayor: All right, all right. Warren, Warren, arrange for the payoff!::Deputy Mayor Warren LaSalle: Hallelujah.
Mr. Blue: I once had a man shot for talking to me like that.::Mr. Gray: Yeah, well, that's the difference between you and me. I've always done my own killing.
Mr. Blue: Ladies and gentlemen, it might interest you to know that the City of New York has agreed to pay for your release.::[Hostages cheer]::Old Man: Excuse me, sir. Would you mind telling us now how much you're getting?::Mr. Blue: Why is that of interest to you, sir?::Old Man: Well, a person likes to know his worth.::Mr. Blue: One million dollars.::Old Man: That's not so terrific.
Mr. Blue: Be Quiet! Now be quiet! nothing will happen as long as you obey my orders.::Pimp: Shit man that's what they said in Vietnam, and I still got my ass shot full of lead.::Mr. Gray: Shut your mouth nigger! and keep it shut!::Mr. Blue: Mr. Gray!
Mr. Blue: The Africans used to pay me five thousand.::Mr. Green: Five thousand a month? Geez...::Mr. Blue: For leading a battalion.::Mr. Green: What the hell'd you get out of that for?::Mr. Blue: Because the market dried up.

Muscat is the capital of Oman. Muscat was ruled by various indigenous tribes as well as foreign powers such as the Persians and the Portuguese Empire at various points in its history. A regional military power in the 18th century, Muscat's influence extended as far as East Africa and Zanzibar. As an important port-town in the Gulf of Oman, Muscat attracted foreign tradesmen and settlers such as the Persians, the Balochs and Gujaratis. Since the ascension of Qaboos bin Said as Sultan of Oman in 1970, Muscat has experienced rapid infrastructural development that has led to the growth of a vibrant economy and a multi-ethnic society. The rocky Western Al Hajar Mountains dominate the landscape of Muscat. The city lies on the Arabian Sea along the Gulf of Oman and is in the proximity of the strategic Straits of Hormuz. Low-lying white buildings typify most of Muscat's urban landscape, while the port-district of Muttrah, with its corniche and harbour, form the north-eastern periphery of the city. Muscat's economy is dominated by trade, petroleum and porting.

The city referred to as "Muscat" is in fact three smaller towns which have grown together over time. They are:
Muscat - often referred to as the "walled city", Muscat proper is the site of the royal palaces.
Matrah (Matruh) - originally a fishing village, and home to the maze-like Matrah Souq.
Ruwi - generally considered the commercial and diplomatic centre of the city.
This tripartite division will sometimes cause the visitor an inconvenience, as distances between sites can be very long.
As an alternative to the main CBD area that is considered as these three areas there is plently of places to go and things to see along the main highway that heads North East out of these areas. This main road, The Sultan Qaboos Highway, goes past many areas on its way out to the Airport and further still to Seeb, Sohar and eventually the northern most tip of Oman.
Heading along this road you pass the districts of Qurum, Madinat Al Sultan Qaboos, Al Khuwair, Bausher, Al-Hail and Seeb. Each one has a range of sights to see and places to stay.
There is also a very long beach road from Qurum to Seeb, some 50km. Situated along this are some of the large international hotel chains but more importantly you discover the true beauty of the Oman coast-line. Km's of beaches, fisherman with drag nets and open space to walk for hours.
Tourist Attractions in Muscat, Oman
=================
Al Jalali Fort and Al Mirani fort They are located in Qasr Al Alam Street. The forts were built as prisons in the rocky mountains in 1580 during the Portugese occupation, and have now been converted into museums. Update as of August 2012, the forts are now closed to the public. However, outside photography is allowed.
Qasr Al Alam Royal Palace Guarded by the twin forts of Jalali and Mirani, this is the office of Sultan Qaboos, the ruler of Oman. This beautiful palace stands on the head of a natural deep water harbour. Visitors are not allowed to visit the palace, but they are allowed to take photographs at the entrance of the palace.
Corniche Area The recently renovated Corniche area is a popular place for a walk and also for its many eating places. Climb to the base of Mutrah Fort (at the east end of the Corniche walk) for a spectacular view of the city.
Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque. This is the third largest mosque in the world and mostly the entire complex is open to non-Muslim visitors. Non-Muslims may visit from 8AM to 11AM every day except Thursday and Friday. Ladies are however expected to keep their heads, ankles and wrists covered while visiting the mosque. Must sees in the mosque include the Swarovski crystal chandelier, the second largest hand made persian carpet in the world and the marble panelling.
Bait az-Zubair Museum The museum itself features displays on Omani social history, while tours are frequently run of the neighbouring reconstructed townhouse
Muscat also has a large number of small and large parks, the largest being the Qurum National Park or rose gardens which include a large manmade waterfall, a lake and an amusement park which is a must to visit during the Muscat festival. Other popular parks include:
Riyam park - also with rides and an Arabian watch tower. Visited in The Amazing Race 9
A number of factories are open for visitors such as the Omani halwah factory and the Amouage perfume factory. Amouage perfume is the most valuable perfume in the world.
Nakhal Fort. This splendid fort is about 40 minutes drive east of the city, located at the base of the Jebel Akhdar section of the Hajar Mountains.
Wadi Shab. This is perhaps the most spectacular of all the easily accessible wadis in Oman. It is located about 100 km southeast of Muscat, accessed from the main coastal road to Sur at the village of Tiwi. The pools here are a vivid Emerald Green colour, and the caves and sheer sides of the wadi really dramatic.

Wadi Bani Khalid - Oman Vacation, Wadi Bani Khalid, Oman Tourism
Wadi Bani Khalid is a wadi about 203 km from Muscat, Oman. It is the best-known wadi of the Sharqiyah region. Its stream maintains a constant flow of water throughout the year. Large pools of water and boulders are scattered along the course of the wadi. As a geographical area, Wadi Bani Khalid covers a large swathe of low land and mountains.
Caves form some of the interesting features of this wadi. These include Kahf Maqal which is one of the Sultanate's underground chambers. However, reaching this cave takes a lot of effort and visitors should be prepared for the adventure. Springs of water are also common in this wadi. The springs of Ain Hamouda, Ain al Sarooj and Ain Dawwa, among others, are a blessing to the eye as one ventures along the wadis. The village of Badaa is a well-known tourist stop in the valley. The wadi is approx. 270KM from Muscat.

Construction The Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque
==========
In 1992 Sultan Qaboos directed that his country of Oman should have a Grand Mosque. A competition for its design took place in 1993 and after a site was chosen at Bausher construction commenced in 1995. Building work, which was undertaken by Carillion Alawi LLC took six years and four months.
The Mosque is built from 300,000 tonnes of Indian sandstone. The main musalla (prayer hall) is square (external dimensions 74.4 x 74.4 metres) with a central dome rising to a height of fifty metres above the floor. The dome and the main minaret (90 metres) and four flanking minarets (45.5 metres) are the mosque's chief visual features. The main musalla can hold over 6,500 worshippers, while the women's musalla can accommodate 750 worshipers. The outer paved ground can hold 8,000 worshipers and there is additional space available in the interior courtyard and the passageways, making a total capacity of up to 20,000 worshipers.
The world's second largest hand-woven carpet and chandelier
=========
A major feature of the design of the interior is the prayer carpet which covers the floor of the prayer hall. It contains, 1,700,000,000 knots, weighs 21 tonnes and took four years to produce, and brings together the classical Tabriz, Kashan and Isfahan design traditions. 28 colors in varying shades were used, the majority obtained from traditional vegetable dyes. It is the second largest single piece carpet in the world. This hand-woven carpet was produced by Iran Carpet Company (ICC) at the order of the Diwan of the Royal Court of Sultanate of Oman to cover the entire floor of the main praying hall of the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque (SQGM) in Muscat. The carpet measures over 70 × 60 meters, and covers the 4,343 square meter area of the praying hall, all in a single piece. The chandelier above the praying hall is 14 meters tall and was manufactured by company Faustig[2] from Germany. The Mosque is built on a site occupying 416,000 square metres and the complex extends to cover an area of 40,000 square metres. The newly built Grand Mosque was inaugurated by Sultan of Oman on May 4, 2001.

Most Beautiful Places in Oman, 7 Deluxe Reasons to Visit Oman. (CNN) -- While the United Arab Emirates draws international visitors to its flashy five-star hotels and massive shopping malls, its neighbor to the east, Oman, has taken a slightly more subtle approach to developing its tourism industry. most beautiful places oman, best places oman, beautiful places in africa, best places to travel europe, best places to visit in the world, beautiful place in the word, travel, travel guide,
Oman is hoping that the preservation of its heritage sites and spectacular landscapes -- rather than rapid modernization of both -- will attract visitors seeking a more laid back Arabian experience.
The capital, Muscat, may not have many towering glass skyscrapers, but that doesn't mean that visitors to this Gulf nation have to rough it.
Oman has a wealth of luxury experiences that provide modern comforts in a unique Middle Eastern setting.
1. The Chedi, Muscat
Muscat's waterfront has a charming promenade next to the city's old Matrouh souq, perfect for a sunset stroll. The bazaar next door is small, but has narrow alleys lined with carpet and spice vendors, and is one of the most authentic in the Middle East.
2. Royal Opera House
Abu Dhabi and Doha may be building world-class museums like the Louvre and the Guggenheim, but Muscat is the only city on the Arabian Peninsula with its own opera house.
3. The Green Mountain
No visit to Oman would be complete without seeing the stunning views from the top of Jabal Akhdar, located at nearly 10,000 feet (3,048 meters) up in the Hajar Mountain range. It's just a short drive from the capital.
4. Zighy Bay
Located just north of the United Arab Emirates, the small enclave of Musandam is one of the most geographically unique areas in Gulf region.
5. Sailing explorations
Centuries ago, Omanis dominated the Indian Ocean and earned a reputation as the best seafarers in the world. Omani sailors like the legendary Sinbad used wooden dhows to expand their Gulf sultanate's reach as far south as Zanzibar in East Africa.
6. Wahiba Sands
Camping under the stars in the desert is a favorite Omani pastime and Wahiba Sands is one of the favorite locations to do it -- a rejuvenating desert retreat far from Muscat, where Bedouin tour guides offer desert safaris and overnight camping treks.
7. Shuwa
One of the most popular dishes in Oman is called shuwa, succulent lamb served with spice-infused rice.

Travel video about destination Sultanate of Oman.
The Sultanate Of Oman is a fabulous land full of surprises, a splendid example of original Arabia from the Straits Of Hormuz to the southern Dhofar. Up until the 1970’s the third largest country in the Arabian Peninsula was only accessible by various caravan routes. It has an abundance of mysterious desert towns and splendid palaces. Our journey begins on the northern coast of the Gulf Of Oman.The white city of Sohar is the historic harbour of the Islamic world and the ‘Gateway To China’. Sinbad the Sailor is said to have lived there in the 8th century and after he spent his father’s inheritance it is believed that he travelled to Baghdad to seek his fortune there. The city is still guarded by the white Sohar Fort, a mighty four storey building that dates back to the 14th century. The Nakhl Fortress is located on a rock at the foot of the mountain of the same name, Jebel Nakhl. Both walls and rock form a complete architectural whole. Nakhl is the home of the Ya´Aruba Tribe that came into power in 1624 and ruled over Oman for a hundred and twenty years. Until the 12th century Nizwa was the capital of the Desert State of Oman. Even today this oasis city and trading metropolis has lost none of its former importance and the former residential complex of the massive fortress is open to the public. The fortress once fulfilled an important role in protecting the country’s interior and now its lavish and well-restored rooms radiate tranquillity. The mighty Jabrin Fort is one of the most beautiful castles of its kind in the Sultanate of Oman, formerly the famous ‘Land Of Incense’. Its massive, towering and eye-catching pewter walls date back to the 17th century. Until the middle of the twentieth century Abri had the reputation of being a centre for highwaymen and robbers, favoured for its good strategic location. The booty that came from plundered caravans and the settlements of various tribes was sold at auction in the souk: adventure straight from the pages of an Arabian fairy-tale! The Sultanate Of Oman is a treasure trove of rarities. Its twelve thousand year old history is visible throughout the entire country and the beauty of the mysterious Arabian Peninsula is a truly captivating experience.

It's a curious observation about travelling in Oman that the moment you tuck behind a sand dune and begin erecting your tent, however discreetly, someone will park alongside and start camping too. Never mind that it is the only car you've seen all day; never mind that there are 2700km of beautiful, empty sandy beaches; never mind that the mountains are so lonesome in parts that only wolves and hedgehogs meander into the night; and never mind that memories of Thesiger are the only evocations of the living to issue from the dunes of the Empty Quarter -- the one-car-per-day will find yours and camp alongside.

Nizwa is the largest city in the Ad Dakhiliyah Region in Oman and was the capital of Oman proper. Nizwa is about 140 km (1.5 hours) from Muscat. The population is estimated at around 700,000 people including the two areas of Burkat Al Mooz and Al Jabel Al Akhdar.
Nizwa is one of the oldest cities in Oman and it was once a center of trade, religion, education and art. Its Jama (grand mosque) was formerly a center for Islamic learning. Nizwa acquired its importance because it has been an important meeting point at the base of the Western Hajar Mountains. Set amid a verdant spread of date palms, it is strategically located at the crossroads of routes linking the interior with Muscat and the lower reaches of Dhofar thus serving as the link for a large part of the country. Today, Nizwa is a diverse prosperous place with numerous agricultural, historical and recreational aspects. Nizwa is a center for date growing and is the market place for the area.
Attractions Nizwa, Oman
==============
The main tourist attractions in the city are Nizwa Fort, the traditional Souq and Falaj Daris. In the 1990s, the Jama, the fort and the souq which sit next to each other in the centre were renovated using the same traditional materials. In 1993 Nizwa won the award of 'Organisation of Arab Cities'.
Nizwa Fort
======
Nizwa fort was built in the 1668 AD by Imam Sultan Bin Saif Al Ya'rubi. It is Oman's most visited national monument. The fort was the administrative seat of authority for the presiding Imams and Walis in times of peace and conflict. The main bulk of the fort took about 12 years to complete and was built above an underground stream. The fort is a reminder of the town's significance through turbulent periods in Oman's long history. It was a formidable stronghold against raiding forces that desired Nizwa's abundant natural wealth and its strategic location at the crossroads of vital routes.
Nizwa Souq
============
The city, famous for its handicrafts and agricultural products, has an expansive souq with an array of products. It is one of the most important in the country besides Muttrah. The souq bustles with vendors selling everything from meat, fish, fruits and vegetables to spices, dates, gold and silverware. Nizwa is renowned for its silver jewelry which is considered to be the best in the country. Its people are masters in Khanjar making (curved dagger), recognised for its distinctive style and patterns. They also make copper ware, coffee pots, swords, leather goods and pottery.
Falaj Daris
===========
Falaj Daris (a World Heritage Site) is the largest falaj in Oman and is the life maintainer of Nizwa. It provides the surrounding countryside with much needed water for the plantations. Al Ghantuq and Dhoot are two other important falajs in Nizwa. Farming is widely practiced and the town's immense palm farms stretches for eight kilometers along the course of two wadis (Kalbouh and Al Abiadh). Also in practice are red sugar processing and hide tanning.

Salalah is the capital city of Oman's southern Zufar and Dhofar region. It is often considered to be the "second city" of the Sultanate, although some of this designation is probably due to its distinction as Sultan Qaboos' birthplace.
The region is famous for its khareef (monsoon), and the Khareef Festival is an annual event here. Many locals will in fact be quite surprised to see non-Arab visitors at other times of year.
Salalah and Dhofar are historically famous for the frankincense trade. The region has tended to be rather independent over history, although this has changed since Qaboos' ascention to the throne. The Jibbali (Arabic: those of the mountains) tribes maintain a slightly distrustful stance to the government in Muscat, although this is more a stance of custom than anything else. Interestingly, the tribes speak a different language to the Arabic spoken throughout the Peninsula, although visitors are unlikely to encounter it.
