The phrase interactive entertainment also known as video games refers to the business of producing and distributing products and services, or the products and services, of which the entertainment value (or outcomes) can be influenced by users through direct feedback.
Although Hal Halpin claims credit for coining the phrase with the renaming of GameWeek Magazine to Interactive Entertainment Magazine in 2001, the phrase was in use as early as 1981. Halpin's official biography now claims that he "popularized" the phrase "to describe the convergence of the console, online, and computer games sectors."

A new category of interactivity is based on so called realtime rendered animation. 3 D characters out of a animation movie could be exported to a realtime environment. It is possible to track this 3 D data with several interfaces. One example to use this new technology you could see in the Dutch theme park Walibi Holland. The German company www.induce-projects.de used the 3 D data from a character of the theme park movie and built a realtime environment with a special rendering software. The reduce the number of polygons and tracks the 3 D character via facetracking and hot keys. the face tracking system is based on augmented reality recognition
