Learning to Roar

Meet the lion pride at Werribee Open Range Zoo this autumn! See our growing cubs at play, meet their Keepers and learn how to prowl, pounce and roar like a Lion. Learn the traditional folktale of How the Lion Got its Roar, an African performance running daily at 11:30am and 12:30pm during the school holiday period. Don’t miss our daily Lion Keeper talk at 11:30am to hear from our expert keepers about the majestic African Lions and the conservation work being done to save them. Kids will learn about the important skills that young Lion cubs develop as they grow and see if they’ve got what it takes to join the pride, as they stalk their way through the Prowl and Pounce zone. Kids can also join in the daily Lion-themed games on the lawn during school holidays. Daily Schedule How the Lion Got its Roar performance | 25 March – 10 April, 11.30am and 12.30pm | African Village Lion Lawn Games | 25 March – 10 April, 11.50am – 12.10am and 12.50am - 1.10pm | African Village Lion Keeper Talk | 25 March – 24 June, 11.30am Lion dress-ups + learn how to care for your plush animal | 25 March – 24 June, 10.30am – 2.30pm | Ranger Kids During your visit, you can also help improve the lives of the people and animals of northern Kenya, including the African Lion, through a unique, community-based program called Beads for Wildlife.
