Hamer Hall

Hamer Hall is the premier entertainment space located at the Yarra end of The Arts Centre. Arts Centre Melbourne is a couple of minutes walk from Flinders Street Station or take any tram (except tram no.1) along St Kilda Road and disembark at Arts Centre Melbourne. Stop number 14. Arts Centre Melbourne car park is open 24 hours a day seven days a week and offers undercover parking for 850 vehicles. Hamer Hall Redevelopment The new designs for Hamer Hall open the building up to the river bank and St Kilda Rd. The design is a radical rethink of the 30 year old building that will increase access while maintaining its heritage features. The design incorporates a second entry to the Hall at the river level. The plan is to demolish the existing terrace and build a new terrace that allows light into the river level, create a new 'civic stair' and a 24-hour lift from the river to St Kilda Road and bring a whole new section of the Yarra bank back to life with a range of entertainment options. In 2010, $128.5 million was allocated by the Victorian Government for the redevelopment of Hamer Hall and its surrounds as part of the Southbank Cultural Precinct Redevelopment. The aim is to re-invigorate this vibrant cultural and community hub, give Melbourne the cultural precinct it deserves - an open, accessible, integrated, imaginative precinct that connects the arts to people and people to the arts. The work on Hamer Hall now has less than 12 months to completion. By mid-2012 you will be able to see: • New connections with the city, St Kilda Road and river, and a spectacular new outlook to the city. • Better amenities with new stairs, improved disability access, escalators and lifts. • New and expanded foyer spaces. • Improved acoustics, new auditorium seating, cutting edge staging systems and technology.
