Built for the Bush

Built for the Bush

An inspiring exploration of the elements that shape Australian dwellings, featuring the work of renowned architects Glenn Murcutt, Richard Leplastrier, Peter Stutchbury and James Stockwell.

How do iron, timber, earth, water, light and air feature in your house?

Simple, energy efficient homes have been a necessity in Australian housing in the past, due to limited access to materials, skills and resources. In the 21st century, these low-energy solutions are inspiring a new generation to minimise the environmental impact of modern housing.

Featuring cutting-edge contemporary houses by star architects Glenn Murcutt, Richard Leplastrier, Peter Stutchbury and James Stockwell, Built for the Bush is an inspiring exploration of the elements that continue to shape Australian dwellings. It illustrates the ways that looking at the architecture of the past might be the best strategy for approaching our future.
