Kaviyoor (Malayalam: ml:കവിയൂര്) (also Kaviyur) is a small village, appearing in history books as one of the ancient 64 Brahmin settlements of Kerala. It is located on the western bank of the river Manimala in the taluk of Thiruvalla in Pathanamthitta district of Kerala, India. It is a highly literate (97%) village. There are three major high schools established over 50 years ago. There are also a number of primary/junior schools and a couple of Teacher Training Institutes. Kaviyoor used to have a prosperous agrarian economy till agriculture more or less became unviable of late. It is serviced by two nationalized banks and two local co-operative banks.

Majority of the residents belong to the Hindu or Christian community. The total population is estimated to be about 16,311 people with a literacy rate of about 97%.
There are 13 wards in the Kaviyoor Grama Panchayat out of which few are represented by women. The Panchayat office is near the Mahadeva temple which is adjacent to the Krishi Bhavan.
Kaviyoor Ponnamma is a Malayalam film actress. She won the Kerala State Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1971,1972,1973,and 1994.
Ponnamma was born in Kaviyoor village,near Tiruvalla to a conservative upper-class family.
She has acted with Prem Nazir, Sathyan, Madhu, Jayan, Soman, Sukumaran, Vincent, Raghavan, Mammootty, Mohanlal, Suresh Gopi, Jayaram, Dileep and Prithviraj.
She has done a tele-film directed by Viji Thamby for Amritha TV.
As a five-year-old, she learnt music and used to sing in stage shows. She did not see many movies. She started acting in dramas when she was 14 year old, starting off with Mooladhanam of Thoppil Bhasi. After five years, came her first movie Kudumbini, in which she did the title role of the mother of two kids.
Having stayed at Chennai for 37 years, Ponnamma is now settled in Aluva. Her husband M.K. Mani was a film producer. Their daughter is now in Chennai and son-in-law a professor at the Michigan University.
