Jiménez (surname)

Jiménez (archaic forms, Ximénez or Ximenes; Galician and Portuguese: Ximenes, Catalan: Ximenis or Eiximenis) is a surname of Iberian origin, first appearing in the Basque lands. Jiménez is a patronymic construction from the modern-styled given name Jimeno, plus the Spanish suffix -ez, meaning "son [of]". The root appears to stem from Basque semen ('son'), attested in the Aquitanian inscriptions as Sembeconnis and like forms. Variants of the surname include the archaic Ximénez, Ximenes, as well as Giménez, Gimenes, Jimenes, Chiménez, Chimenes, Seménez and Semenes.

In Spanish orthography, the variations of Jiménez that end with a z are written with an acute accent on the second syllable. In English, all variations are commonly written without the diacritic.

In Portuguese orthography, there is no diacritic used for Ximenes.

Spelling

As the modern name Ximenes has an -es suffix, it is almost certainly of Portuguese, Galician or Old Spanish origin, as the orthographic change to -ez (and indeed, the consonant shift from X to J) was revised in Spain only in the late 18th century. This obviously was not the case in Portugal.

Mariana Ximenes do Prado Nuzzi, commonly known as Mariana Ximenes (born April 26, 1981 in São Paulo) is a Brazilian actress.

Biography

Mariana Ximenes do Prado Nuzzi was born in São Paulo on April 26, 1981 and grew up in Vila Mariana neighborhood.

Mariana wanted to be an actress since childhood. At age 6, she appeared in a school play as Cinderella. She began acting in amateur theater, insisting her parents invest in her career as an actress participating in various advertising campaigns. Her first acting lessons were in Teatro Escola Célia Helena, and at age 12, had appeared in more than 200 commercials. She attended Colégio Marista Arquidiocesano, where he studied from 3rd grade until her 3rd year of high school.

1994 — 01: Fascinação, Uga-Uga and A Padroeira

When she was thirteen years old, Mariana debuted on television in the soap opera 74.5 - Uma Onda no Ar in Rede Manchete in 1994, making a cameo. Shortly afterward, she was invited to join the cast of the soap opera Fascinação of SBT in 1998, where she played the character Emília, his first major TV role. In the same year, she made her debut on Rede Globo and began acting in movies.
