Cairns stabbing: Two women dead, man and woman injured

Police expect to charge a man who is being held over the stabbing deaths of two women at a house south of Cairns.

The man was arrested near the crime scene at Gordonvale after police were called to a disturbance and found the bodies of the women on Monday afternoon.

Stabbing deaths: a 'blood soaked scene'

The "horrific" stabbing deaths of two women at a Gordonvale house prompts a plea by police for domestic violence victims and perpetrators to seek help.

Police are not looking for any other suspects in the wake of the tragedy, which also left a 17-year-old girl with facial injuries and involved a group of people who were known to each other.

Nine News reported the dead women were the man's wife and mother-in-law and that his daughter had also been injured.

Queensland Treasurer and Gordonvale local Curtis Pitt took to Facebook to express his sympathies, saying he was shocked by the tragedy.

"The deceased and their family are well known to me and many locals," he said.

"This tragedy has hit close to home quite literally, happening as it did in my home town only blocks from my house and the next street to where my parents live.

"I think it's very important for people not to speculate or make any assumptions until other family members have been notified and the police complete their investigations."

Police were called to a Wiltshire Drive address in Gordonvale on Monday afternoon, where they found two women, believed to be aged in their 40s, deceased.

Two other people were treated by paramedics at the scene.

Police are not confirming any other details while next of kin are being notified.
