It is mainly listened to in the Pashtun regions, which includes Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Federally Administered Tribal Areas, and Balochistan in Pakistan. The major centers of Pashto music are Peshawar, Karachi and Quetta.

Pashtunwali (Pashto: پښتونوالی) or Pakhtunwali is a non-written ethical code and traditional lifestyle which the indigenous Pashtun people follow. It could be said that it is simply a system of law and governance from the prehistoric times when humanity was completely illiterate or unable to use written instruments such as books, and is preserved and used up until modern times but mostly in the rural tribal areas. Some in the Indian subcontinent refer to it as "Pathanwali". Its meaning may also be interpreted as "the way of the Pashtuns" or "the code of life". Pashtunwali dates back to ancient pre-Islamic times and is widely practiced among Pashtuns, especially among the non-urbanized Pashtuns in the countryside. In addition to being practiced by members of the Pashtun diaspora, it has been adopted by some non-Pashtun Afghans and Pakistanis that live in the Pashtun regions or close to the Pashtuns, who have gradually become Pashtunized over time. During the Pashtun-dominated Taliban regime, Pashtunwali was practiced throughout the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in conjunction with the Taliban's interpretation of Deobandi Islam

Twenty-one years in the making, this dramatic feature length documentary tells the extraordinary story of Muslim peacemaker, Badshah Khan (aka Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan). Born into Pashtun warrior society, Khan managed to raise a non-violent army of more than 100,000 men, women, and youngsters of various religions as he fought alongside Mahatma Gandhi for India's independence. Shot in Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, the U.S. and Canada, this eye-opening film includes remarkably candid interviews with world leaders; rare historical footage; interviews with 72 of Khan's non-violent warriors, all beyond the age of 100 years; a haunting score by world music pioneer David Amram; and a Badshah Khan voice characterization by India's megastar, Om Puri.
Nominated twice for the Nobel Peace Prize, Badshah Khan's epic life and timely story remain little known. He died in 1988 at the age of 98 having spent 35 years in solitary confinement for his efforts to humanize the world he inhabited. His lifelong commitment to social justice, freedom and peace places him in that rarefied pantheon of peace figures that includes Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King, Jr. and Mahatma Gandhi. Khan's legacy offers a profound message of hope for these increasingly troubled times.

Teri C. McLuhan is an international award-winning filmmaker, best-selling author, and daughter of Canada's renowned social theorist Marshall McLuhan. She was born in Windsor, Ontario, and raised and educated in Toronto. McLuhan has been a Visiting Scholar at Columbia University and currently resides in New York City. She has written five books on sacred space and the core values of diverse cultures across the planet: Touch the Earth, Portraits from North American Indian Life, Dream Tracks, The Way of the Earth, and Cathedrals of the Spirit. Her films include The Shadow Catcher, a feature length documentary, and The Third Walker, a feature narrative film.

There is fear and desperation in their empty eyes. They have no livelihood and no work; and their growing children receive no education. Their daughters do not have much hope of finding suitable matches; and they are not certain where the next meal would come from. Many women and children live in Gurdwaré, Sikh place of worship relying on free kitchen
And so, a young adventurous Afghan Sikh, Pritpal Singh, who had left Afghanistan 2 decades ago, set out from the UK to document the suffering of fellow Afghan Sikhs and Hindus communities in Afghanistan. The film "MISSION AFGHANISTAN" portrays the life and hardships of minorities in War-torn Afghanistan."
Those who could afford it, left the country. Those left behind have hardly any means of support. They have no present and no future.
These are Sikh women with children, widows and families left behind in a war-riven Afghanistan. Together with the Hindu community, their numbers are dwindling, as they live from day to day in many towns in Afghanistan. The situation of women is made worse because this is a conservative country where women are confined to walled enclosures and cannot go out to work.
Even Gurdwaré of great historical significance are in a state neglect and disrepair.
The country has been torn apart by war for decades and peace is not in sight when the Americans, British and other foreign (NATO- ISAF) troops leave. For minorities like the Sikhs and Hindus, the situation is quite hopeless. As a Sikh lady points out in the documentary, they cannot just depend on short term handouts by generous Sikhs from abroad.
The need is for sustained support projects which set up schools and also provide work for the poorer Sikhs in Afghanistan. Much can be done by the more prosperous business Afghan Sikhs who are doing well in Sikh diaspora countries like the UK, Germany, India, UAE & US.
Funded by Gurdwara Guru Nanak Darbar, Southall (UK), Pritpal had only a very limited budget. The main advantage of this low budget but professionally produced documentary was that, with one local cameraman, and dressed as an Afghan fluent in Farsi & Hindko, Pritpal was able to merge and mix with communities, and keep a low profile in a highly dangerous environment. Travelling on mined countryside roads, strewn with destroyed army vehicles, he was able to film remote places and intermingle with communities in a war zone. This is a country where tourists make attractive targets for hostage-taking by terrorists, and filming crews have to travel with convoys.
Pritpal returned from this dangerous mission with, in his words, "The treasure of well over 1500 photographs and films of key historical Gurdwaré, Mandir & Mosques of Afghanistan - something which has never been done in past!"
He travelled to Kabul, Jalalabad, Sorkhrod, Agha Sarai, Charikar, Salang and Ghazni.
Truly, his mission to bring out the truth about the desperate condition of his fellow Sikhs in a country where their forefathers lived for thousands of years, is a remarkable achievement. He loves his country of birth and is concerned that "if they migrate to other countries, our history and our historical sites will vanish".
It is a highly informative journalistic documentary. In Hindko, English, Farsi, Panjabi & Pashto with English subtitles.

Pashtuns (Pashto: پښتانه Pax̌tānə, also spelled as Pushtuns, Pakhtuns or Pukhtuns), also known as ethnic Afghans (Pashto: افغان) or Pathans (Urdu: پٹھان, Hindi: पठान Paṭhān), are an ethnic group with populations in Afghanistan and Pakistan. There are also significant numbers in India, the Middle East, the Europian Union, North America, Australia, and other parts of the world.
The ethnic group was known historically as "Afghan", believed to be the indigenous people of the vast Pashtunistan (Pakhtunistan) tribal region, between the Hindu Kush mountains in Afghanistan and the Indus River in Pakistan. According to Ethnologue, they currently number around 50 million but some sources give slightly lower or higher figures.
Since the 3rd century AD and onward, the Pashtuns have been referred to by the ethnonym Afghan, a term now used to describe a citizen of Afghanistan. Pashtuns make up the largest ethnic group in Afghanistan, comprising 42-60% of the total Afghan population. Approximately 1.7 million Afghan refugees continue to live in neighboring Pakistan, majority of which are Pashtuns and born inside that country. An unknown number of them are also found among the 1 million Afghans in Iran.

Shahrukh Khan (pronounced [‘ʃaːɦrəx ˈxaːn]; born 2 November 1965), often credited as Shah Rukh Khan and informally referred to as SRK, is an Indian film actor. Known as "The King of Bollywood", Khan has acted in over 70 Hindi films. He has won fourteen Filmfare Awards from thirty nominations for his work in Indian films and shares the record for the highest number of Best Actor awards with Dilip Kumar, eight wins. In 2005, the Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri for his contributions towards Indian cinema.
After graduating with a Bachelor's degree in economics, he started his career appearing in theatre and several television serials in the late 1980s and later made his Hindi film debut in 1992 with Deewana. Early in his career he was recognised for his unconventional choice of negative roles in films such as Darr (1993), Baazigar (1993) and Anjaam (1994). Since then he has played leading roles in a wide variety of film genres, including romantic films, comedies, thrillers, action films, sport films, and historical dramas among others.

Pashtunwali (Pashto: پښتونوالی) or Pakhtunwali is a non-written ethical code and traditional lifestyle which the indigenous Pashtun people follow. It could be said that it is simply a system of law and governance from the prehistoric times when humanity was completely illiterate or unable to use written instruments such as books, and is preserved and used up until modern times but mostly in the rural tribal areas. Some in the Indian subcontinent refer to it as "Pathanwali". Its meaning may also be interpreted as "the way of the Pashtuns" or "the code of life". Pashtunwali dates back to ancient pre-Islamic times and is widely practiced among Pashtuns, especially among the non-urbanized Pashtuns in the countryside. In addition to being practiced by members of the Pashtun diaspora, it has been adopted by some non-Pashtun Afghans and Pakistanis that live in the Pashtun regions or close to the Pashtuns, who have gradually become Pashtunized over time. There is fear and desperation in their empty eyes. They have no livelihood and no work; and their growing children receive no education. Their daughters do not have much hope of finding suitable matches; and they are not certain where the next meal would come from. Many women and children live in Gurdwaré, Sikh place of worship relying on free kitchen And so, a young adventurous Afghan Sikh, Pritpal Singh, who had left Afghanistan 2 decades ago, set out from the UK to document the suffering of fellow Afghan Sikhs and Hindus communities in Afghanistan. The film "MISSION AFGHANISTAN" portrays the life and hardships of minorities in War-torn Afghanistan." Those who could afford it, left the country. Those left behind have hardly any means of support. They have no present and no future. These are Sikh women with children, widows and families left behind in a war-riven Afghanistan. Together with the Hindu community, their numbers are dwindling, as they live from day to day in many towns in Afghanistan. The situation of women is made worse because this is a conservative country where women are confined to walled enclosures and cannot go out to work. Even Gurdwaré of great historical significance are in a state neglect and disrepair. The country has been torn apart by war for decades and peace is not in sight when the Americans, British and other foreign (NATO- ISAF) troops leave. For minorities like the Sikhs and Hindus, the situation is quite hopeless. As a Sikh lady points out in the documentary, they cannot just depend on short term handouts by generous Sikhs from abroad. The need is for sustained support projects which set up schools and also provide work for the poorer Sikhs in Afghanistan. Much can be done by the more prosperous business Afghan Sikhs who are doing well in Sikh diaspora countries like the UK, Germany, India, UAE & US. Funded by Gurdwara Guru Nanak Darbar, Southall (UK), Pritpal had only a very limited budget. The main advantage of this low budget but professionally produced documentary was that, with one local cameraman, and dressed as an Afghan fluent in Farsi & Hindko, Pritpal was able to merge and mix with communities, and keep a low profile in a highly dangerous environment. Travelling on mined countryside roads, strewn with destroyed army vehicles, he was able to film remote places and intermingle with communities in a war zone. This is a country where tourists make attractive targets for hostage-taking by terrorists, and filming crews have to travel with convoys. Pritpal returned from this dangerous mission with, in his words, "The treasure of well over 1500 photographs and films of key historical Gurdwaré, Mandir & Mosques of Afghanistan - something which has never been done in past!" He travelled to Kabul, Jalalabad, Sorkhrod, Agha Sarai, Charikar, Salang and Ghazni. Truly, his mission to bring out the truth about the desperate condition of his fellow Sikhs in a country where their forefathers lived for thousands of years, is a remarkable achievement. He loves his country of birth and is concerned that "if they migrate to other countries, our history and our historical sites will vanish". It is a highly informative journalistic documentary. Pashtunwali (Pashto: پښتونوالی) or Pakhtunwali is a non-written ethical code and traditional lifestyle which the indigenous Pashtun people follow. It could be said that it is simply a system of law and governance from the prehistoric times when humanity was completely illiterate or unable to use written instruments such as books, and is preserved and used up until modern times but mostly in the rural tribal areas. Some in the Indian subcontinent refer to it as "Pathanwali". Its meaning may also be interpreted as "the way of the Pashtuns" or "the code of life". Pashtunwali dates back to ancient pre-Islamic times and is widely practiced among Pashtuns, especially among the non-urbanized Pashtuns in the countryside. In addition to being practiced by members of the Pashtun diaspora, it has been adopted by some non-Pashtun Afghans and Pakistanis that live in the Pashtun regions or close to the Pashtuns, who have gradually become Pashtunized over time. Twenty-one years in the making, this dramatic feature length documentary tells the extraordinary story of Muslim peacemaker, Badshah Khan (aka Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan). Born into Pashtun warrior society, Khan managed to raise a non-violent army of more than 100,000 men, women, and youngsters of various religions as he fought alongside Mahatma Gandhi for India's independence. Shot in Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, the U.S. and Canada, this eye-opening film includes remarkably candid interviews with world leaders; rare historical footage; interviews with 72 of Khan's non-violent warriors, all beyond the age of 100 years; a haunting score by world music pioneer David Amram; and a Badshah Khan voice characterization by India's megastar, Om Puri.

She has written five books on sacred space and the core values of diverse cultures across the planet: Touch the Earth, Portraits from North American Indian Life, Dream Tracks, The Way of the Earth, and Cathedrals of the Spirit. Her films include The Shadow Catcher, a feature length documentary, and The Third Walker, a feature narrative film.

There is fear and desperation in their empty eyes. They have no livelihood and no work; and their growing children receive no education. Their daughters do not have much hope of finding suitable matches; and they are not certain where the next meal would come from. Many women and children live in Gurdwaré, Sikh place of worship relying on free kitchen
And so, a young adventurous Afghan Sikh, Pritpal Singh, who had left Afghanistan 2 decades ago, set out from the UK to document the suffering of fellow Afghan Sikhs and Hindus communities in Afghanistan. The film "MISSION AFGHANISTAN" portrays the life and hardships of minorities in War-torn Afghanistan."
Those who could afford it, left the country. Those left behind have hardly any means of support. They have no present and no future.
These are Sikh women with children, widows and families left behind in a war-riven Afghanistan. Together with the Hindu community, their numbers are dwindling, as they live from day to day in many towns in Afghanistan. The situation of women is made worse because this is a conservative country where women are confined to walled enclosures and cannot go out to work.
Even Gurdwaré of great historical significance are in a state neglect and disrepair.
The country has been torn apart by war for decades and peace is not in sight when the Americans, British and other foreign (NATO- ISAF) troops leave. For minorities like the Sikhs and Hindus, the situation is quite hopeless. As a Sikh lady points out in the documentary, they cannot just depend on short term handouts by generous Sikhs from abroad.
The need is for sustained support projects which set up schools and also provide work for the poorer Sikhs in Afghanistan. Much can be done by the more prosperous business Afghan Sikhs who are doing well in Sikh diaspora countries like the UK, Germany, India, UAE & US.
Funded by Gurdwara Guru Nanak Darbar, Southall (UK), Pritpal had only a very limited budget. The main advantage of this low budget but professionally produced documentary was that, with one local cameraman, and dressed as an Afghan fluent in Farsi & Hindko, Pritpal was able to merge and mix with communities, and keep a low profile in a highly dangerous environment. Travelling on mined countryside roads, strewn with destroyed army vehicles, he was able to film remote places and intermingle with communities in a war zone. This is a country where tourists make attractive targets for hostage-taking by terrorists, and filming crews have to travel with convoys.
Pritpal returned from this dangerous mission with, in his words, "The treasure of well over 1500 photographs and films of key historical Gurdwaré, Mandir & Mosques of Afghanistan - something which has never been done in past!"
He travelled to Kabul, Jalalabad, Sorkhrod, Agha Sarai, Charikar, Salang and Ghazni.
Truly, his mission to bring out the truth about the desperate condition of his fellow Sikhs in a country where their forefathers lived for thousands of years, is a remarkable achievement. He loves his country of birth and is concerned that "if they migrate to other countries, our history and our historical sites will vanish".
It is a highly informative journalistic documentary. In Hindko, English, Farsi, Panjabi & Pashto with English subtitles.

(The shoemaker was fitting the horses shoes, reading for combat.this bullfrog asked the shoe fitter to fit him with a shoe as-well.)

kam-bakhta zaan sambal krha
(The horse shoe- fitter laughed at the egotism of the bullfrog as it was no match for the horses and said that an unfortunate jealous souls should stay away from the fighting horses.)
ka soke be-tajrube wi da chendakhe pa mesaal
zaroor ba zaan pe-mal krha
(Those inexperienced nations are like the frogs in the battlefield of horses,they will be crushed ultimately..)
akher pa tabey tour ba werla makh krhi "Malag Jaan"

Dr. Weil has been the recipient of several awards for her work among Ethiopian Jews. In October 2004, she was elected the President of SOSTEJE (Society for the Study of Ethiopian Jewry) at the University of Addis Abeba, Ethiopia.
In 2005, Shalva Weil was elected President of the European Sociological Association's Qualitative Methods Research Network. She organized the network's mid-term at Cardiff, and together with her Board, is responsible for the RN's conference in Glasgow in September 2007.

She is the editor of India's Jewish Heritage (Marg, 2002 and 2004), Roots and Routes: Ethnicity and Migration in Global Perspective (Magnes Press, 1999), and Ethiopian Jews in the Limelight (Jerusalem, 1997).
Dr. Weil has been the recipient of several awards for her work among Ethiopian Jews. In October 2004, she was elected the President of SOSTEJE (Society for the Study of Ethiopian Jewry) at the University of Addis Abeba, Ethiopia.
In 2005, Shalva Weil was elected President of the European Sociological Association's Qualitative Methods Research Network. She organized the network's mid-term at Cardiff, and together with her Board, is responsible for the RN's conference in Glasgow in September 2007.
