Alton Glenn Miller (March 1, 1904 – missing in action December 15, 1944) was an American big band musician, arranger, composer, and bandleader in the swing era. He was the best-selling recording artist from 1939 to 1943, leading one of the best known big bands. Miller's recordings include "In the Mood", "Moonlight Serenade", "Pennsylvania 6-5000", "Chattanooga Choo Choo", "A String of Pearls", "At Last", "(I've Got a Gal In) Kalamazoo", "American Patrol", "Tuxedo Junction", "Elmer's Tune", and "Little Brown Jug". While he was traveling to entertain U.S. troops in France during World War II, Glenn Miller's aircraft disappeared in bad weather over the English Channel.
Miller was born in Clarinda, Iowa, the son of Mattie Lou (née Cavender) and Lewis Elmer Miller. He attended grade school in North Platte in western Nebraska. In 1915, Miller's family moved to Grant City, Missouri. Around this time, Miller had finally made enough money from milking cows to buy his first trombone and played in the town orchestra. Originally, Miller played cornet and mandolin, but he switched to trombone by 1916. In 1918, the Miller family moved again, this time to Fort Morgan, Colorado, where Miller went to high school. In the fall of 1919, he joined the high school football team, Maroons, which won the Northern Colorado Football Conference in 1920. He was named the Best Left End in Colorado. During his senior year, Miller became very interested in a new style of music called "dance band music". He was so taken with it that he formed his own band with some classmates. By the time Miller graduated from high school in 1921, he had decided to become a professional musician.
Marian Hill is an American songwriting duo from Philadelphia, made up of production artist Jeremy Lloyd and vocalist Samantha Gongol, heavily featuring improvisational jazz musician Steve Davit, debuting in 2013 with their first EP 'Play'. In 2015, they released the album 'Sway'. The New York Times published a review of the duo after the release of Play, comparing them to other well-known electronic and R&B-influenced groups. The duo is going on tour in 2015 across the US. Their name is based in the two main characters from the musical The Music Man: Harold Hill and Marian Paroo. They made their television debut on The Late Late Show with James Corden in September 2015. A track that appears on both their EP and album, 'One Time', became a top 40 hit on U.S. alternative radio in December 2015.
After meeting each other at Haverford High School, Jeremy Lloyd studied music theatre at Yale University, Samantha Gongol music business at New York University, and Steve Davit music industry at Drexel Univeristy. 'Whiskey', the first song the two ever wrote together, describes a woman in control of her own sexuality. They moved on to create songs like 'Lips' and 'Got It', mixtures of blues, jazz, heavy bass and delicate vocals. On 25 November 2014, Romanian pop star INNA released Diggy Down, which gives Marian Hill feature credit for the hook of 'Got It', the video of which received 1,000,000 views before their show at Boot & Saddle, Philadelphia. After their first collaboration with Davit, the audience demanded more saxophone, resulting in the iconic sound produced by the duo and their collaborator presently. Currently, Marian Hill has nine songs to their name and one album called 'Sway'.
My mother and father were dating in 1941 - "Sun Valley Serenade" was Their Movie and "I Know Why" was Their Song. If YouTube can be accessed in Heaven - this one's for YOU, Mum and Dad. Update: for the handful of people who clicked on "show more" - I would add that it is amazing that as my folks sat in the cinema watching this - they could never have dreamed that seventy years later, their son would have uploaded it into a public domain system that would result in - so far - over a hundred thousand people all over the world sharing that experience. It's a funny old life. Oh, and if you're still with me - "In The Mood" and "Chatanooga Choo-Choo" are also on this channel!

MORE SINGING FROM HEAVENS SINGER !! On the much discussed and controversial birth date of anne shelton, it is of quoted as nov 1923, i cannot beleive this as she was turned down by glen miller when she wanted to go to france in december 1944, because she was not 21, which she would have been it nov 1923 was correct. Also i have read dates of 1925, 26, 27 and 1928, i cannot beleive 1928 as this would mean anne was 11 when she made her first recordings with ambrose !!!!!!!. i have read 1925 on an EMI casastte which would have made her 14 when she made her first records, this sounds more reasonable (though still alarmingly young!) I find it difficult to beleive that there are so many dates for someone famous like anne.

Every time you look at me, I know why
Every time you smile at me, I know why
You are everything to me, everything you'll always be
That's the way it's gonna be, I know why
Bridge:
Holding your hand in mine, whispering your name
I know deep in my heart, I'll always feel the same
You are everything to me, everything you'll always be
That's the way it's gonna be, I know why
Every time you look so fine, I know why
Every time your lips meet mine, I know why
You are everything to me, everything you'll always be
That's the way it's gonna be, I know why
