John Atkinson takes a look at how book adaptations devolve when going to a movie, then to a television show and finally to a video game in his latest Wrong Hands comic.
A Tenacious Dog Figures Out How to Escape From His Crate Using Logic and Persistence
Upon noticing that their boxer was escaping from his crate on a regular basis, the dog’s humans set up a hidden camera to see how exactly how he accomplished this feat. It turns out that the tenacious canine used a bit of logic and a great deal of persistence to pull bottom out from the crate and sneak out from below.
Why Certain Sounds Are Considered to Be Universally Cringe Inducing
Hank Green of SciShow offers a reasonable explanation as to why certain sounds are considered to be so universally unpleasant and cringe inducing. It turns out it’s the frequency.
…it turns out that there’s a good scientific reason why certain sounds set most people’s teeth on edge: human ears are extra sensitive to a particular range of pitches. Although where that sensitivity comes from is still up for debate. In 1986, a group of neuroscientists tried to get to the bottom of these intense reactions by doing what so many researchers do: unpleasant things to volunteers. Specifically, they asked 24 adults to rank a series of 16 sounds based on how unpleasant they thought those sounds were. And although that isn’t a very big sample size, the noises that were consistently rated the nastiest — like the sound of a fork scraping a plate or squealing brakes — all had something in common: They share a frequency range between 2,000 and 5,000 hertz, where our ears happen to be especially sensitive.
A Sweet Human Baby and and an Adorable Jaguar Cub Each Enjoy a Bottle of Milk Side by Side
In 2012, two adorable little babies, one human (Bella) and the other a Brazilian jaguar (Juma), enjoy their bottles side by side as if they were siblings. Being that Bella’s father is Airton Katsuyama, a well-known Brazilian biologist who rescues all sorts of animals, this particular sight isn’t as unusual as it seems.
Bella is 8 months old, and Juma is just 1 month, but both enjoy taking a bottle together. “Bella’s father, biologist Airton Katsuyama, rescues hundreds of wild animals in Mineiros/Góias. His daughters have always lived closely with some of these animals. Juma, a Brazilian jaguar “onça pintada” is one of them.

Bandmate Carl Palmer made a beautiful statement about his longtime friend.
I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of my good friend and brother-in-music, Keith Emerson. Keith was a gentle soul whose love for music and passion for his performance as a keyboard player will remain unmatched for many years to come. He was a pioneer and an innovator whose musical genius touched all of us in the worlds of rock, classical and jazz. I will always remember his warm smile, good sense of humor, compelling showmanship, and dedication to his musical craft. I am very lucky to have known him and to have made the music we did, together. Rest in peace, Keith.

The History and Use of the Wingdings Font
Vox contributor Phil Edwards researched the history of Wingdings fonts and how it is used in the video, “Why the Wingdings font exists.” The fonts derived from dingbats, special characters used in pre-computer printing, and are an early predecessor to emoji.
As a means of writing sentences, Wingdings fails — but that was never its purpose. It was created to be used as a unique tool for the pre-internet era. It was akin to emojis, but with even more utility.
Amazingly Realistic Custom Pet and Wildlife Portraits Embroidered by Hand
British artist Emillie Ferris employs her incredible hand embroidery skills to create beautiful animal portraits that are amazingly realistic. Making these portraits, however, came about almost by accident.
I’m a 21 year old student based in Suffolk/Lincoln. I’ve always been enthusiastic about art and am particularly passionate about illustration, photography and design!…However I never considered embroidery until my 19th birthday when my boyfriend surprised me with an awesome kit of embroidery assortments to get started with (hoops, threads, material, etc..).
Ferris takes custom orders and offers many of her creations through her Etsy page.
