As part of Festival Of The Photocopier 2016, Western Australian print collective State Team will be exhibiting in the window of Sticky Institute with WA/Wait Awhile.

A jumble sale at a Quaker meeting hall in Surry Hills is perhaps one of the most unlikely places to find a vintage Western Australian souvenir linen tablecloth in mint condition, no less. But when I saw it, it felt so obvious. Of course it’s here! An expat, placed aside for now. To be recovered, cared for and returned home. I wore it as a cape for about an hour until I remembered Australian flag capes and snuck it into my bag.

I love it when my friends return home from Melbourne, Sydney, Berlin for The Perth Christmas. Our conversations are long, our yellow bins are filled with green Coopers empties, we actually go to that gig, we attend impromptu dog weddings. A few careful weeks, as in, full of care.

Mid January and a few more friends got accepted to RMIT, Melbourne Uni, CoFA or whatever it’s called now, they’re selling their beds and bikes on Facebook. I’m so excited for them! Look out East Coast! A few of us squeeze in a quick trip east before semester starts, whether or not we’re still studying. Spreading out again. On this trip I’m repping WA. Black, yellow, swans, only 50% irony. I want to bring a bit more of home with me this time. I want to share why I haven’t left yet, why I’ll be coming back if I do.

Then I’ll return home to Bunuru, the second summer. The hottest, driest part of the year. We’ll wait a while until the nights cool, until the mozzies hibernate. We’ll wait a while for the grant round results to be announced, to hear back from the galleries we applied to. We’ll keep on waiting and we’ll keep on going in this wide dry town.

Putting The Femme In Ephemeral is an exhibition by girls who make zines, curated by Gemma Flack and Sticky Institute for Festival Of The Photocopier 2016. 

The opening party will take at Rooftop Art Space (Level 7, 252 Swanston Street) on Friday February 12th from 7.30pm.

If you would like to book a full or half table, please email downstairs@stickyinstitute.com with your name and the zine(s)/distro you’ll be representing.

It is free to have a table / half-table at this event, but it is getting bigger every year and space is limited, so please book in advance. 

And again, as always: we will only accept zine stall applications. It is a zine fair. We are a zine shop holding a zine event. If you are not somebody who makes and/or sells zines then this is not the event for you.

As part of Girls On Film Festival 2015, Sticky will be holding a zine table on Saturday at Girl Germs, an event with a special emphasis on young feminists. Find out more here. 

Sticky Institute recently passed the remarkable milestone of producing one million photocopies on its premises since opening in 2001.

We are so thrilled that the zine community has made such sterling and prolific use of our photocopying services that we are having a party to commemorate it.

There will be an official ceremonial launch of the next million photocopies to take place in Sticky, plus live musical performances from Dogood and Plastic Rupert.

Also, as a celebration of all the zines made instore during Sticky’s lifetime, there will also be a mega zine launch - the launch of dozens of new zines in one evening, including new titles by:
