Project Manager Soldier Sensors and Lasers (PM SSL) provides Soldiers with improved lethality, mobility, and survivability in all weather and visibility conditions. Soldier-borne sensors and lasers enhance the Soldier's ability to see in all battlefield and lighting conditions, to acquire objects of military significance before the Soldier is detected, and to target threat objects accurately for engagement by Soldiers or guided munitions. These systems provide critical, on-the-ground direct support to U.S. forces.
Product Manager Soldier Maneuver Sensors (SMS) provides Soldiers with products for enhanced vision, improved targeting, and greater lethality. Development of the Enhanced Night Vision Google (ENVG) is one example of PEO Soldier’s leadership in this area. The ENVG, initially fielded to units supporting Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom in FY09, provides the individual Soldier with enhanced situational awareness day or night in all weather and degraded battlefield conditions. The ENVG is a helmet-mounted passive device that combines scene data from a low-light level sensor and a long wave sensor into a single, integrated image.

Program Executive Office (PEO) Soldier was created by the Army with one primary purpose: to develop the best equipment and field it as quickly as possible so that our Soldiers remain second to none in missions that span the full spectrum of military operations.
As recent operations in Iraq and Afghanistan have vividly demonstrated, getting the right equipment to our military men and women in an expeditious manner is absolutely critical.
This video depicts Soldiers of the 75th Ranger Regiment jumping the T-11 Advanced Tactical Parachute System at Fort Benning, Ga. Slated to replace the 50-year-old T-10 system, the T-11 addresses new environmental realities for Soldiers. With a canopy that is 28 percent larger that the T-10’s, the T-11 has a 49 percent slower rate of descent and increases the safety level for Soldiers, who are on average heavier and carry more equipment than their predecessors of 50 years ago.
By viewing the Soldier as part of an integrated system, PEO Soldier ensures that the Soldier and everything he or she wears or carries works together as an integrated system. The result is an overall systematic design that benefits Soldiers by enhancing their ability to accomplish individual and collective tasks, improving quality of life, building confidence, and saving lives. Soldier
A soldier is one who fights as part of an organized land-based armed force. A soldier can be an enlisted person, a non-commissioned officer, or junior-commissioned officer, or an officer.
Etymology
The word soldier derives from the Middle English word soudeour, from Anglo-French soudeer or soudeour, meaning mercenary, from soudee, meaning shilling's worth or wage, from sou or soud, shilling. The word is also related to the Medieval Latin soldarius, meaning soldier (literally, "one having pay"). These words ultimately derive from the Late Latin word solidus, referring to an Ancient Roman coin used in the Byzantine Empire.
Occupational designations
In most armed forces use of the word 'soldier' has taken on a more general meaning due to the increasing specialization of military occupations that require different areas of knowledge and skill-sets. As a result, 'soldiers' are referred to by names or ranks which reflect an individual's military occupation specialty arm, service, or branch of military employment, their type of unit, or operational employment or technical use such as: trooper, tanker (a member of tank crew), commando, dragoon, infantryman, marine, paratrooper, grenadier, ranger, sniper, engineer, sapper, signaller, medic, or a gunner.

A product manager investigates, selects, and drives the development of products for an organization, performing the activities of product management.
A product manager considers numerous factors such as intended demographic, the products offered by the competition, and how well the product fits with the company's business model. Generally, a product manager manages one or more tangible products. However, the term may be used to describe a person who manages intangible products, such as music, information, and services.
A product manager's role in tangible goods industries is similar to a program director's role in service industries.

The XM25, Counter Defilade Target Engagement (CDTE) System enables the small unit and individual Soldier to engage defilade targets by providing a 25mm air bursting capability that can be used in all operational environments. The CDTE is a direct-fire, semi-automatic, shoulder-fired, man-portable weapon system. An individual Soldier employing basic rifle marksmanship skills can effectively engage exposed or defilade targets in just seconds.
The system allows the individual Soldier to quickly and accurately engage targets by producing an adjusted aimpoint based on range, environmental factors, and user inputs. The target acquisition/fire control integrates thermal capability with direct-view optics, laser rangefinder, compass, fuze setter, ballistic computer, laser pointer and illuminator, and an internal display.
The CDTE System reduces the reliance of small units on non-organic assets (mortars, artillery, and air support) and the need to compete for priority of fires when time is critical. In addition to air bursting ammunition, a family of ammunition is being developed to support other missions, which could include armor-piercing and nonlethal scenarios.

This video segment chronicles the equipping of the 4th Battalion, 9th Infantry (4-9) Regiment from Fort Lewis with the Land Warrior (LW) system prior to deployment in Operation Iraqi Freedom. This segment’s interviews detail how the system of technologies provides near real-time information improving ground Soldiers’ situational awareness and answering the three vital questions of, “Where am I; where are my friends; and where are my enemies?”
This segment also details how, through 8 months of initial training with LW, members of the 4-9 provided valuable feedback to PEO Soldier. This Soldier feedback resulted in an improved functionality that overcame initial design concerns and prevented full acceptance of the system. These initial concerns regarding the new equipment, apprehension to learning a new system of technologies, and creation of solutions to those issues displays PEO Soldier’s commitment to always provide the best to the Center of our Strength.
As recent operations in Iraq and Afghanistan have vividly demonstrated, getting the right equipment to our military men and women is absolutely critical.
By viewing the Soldier as part of an integrated system, PEO Soldier ensures that the Soldier and everything he or she wears or carries works together as an integrated system. The result is an overall systematic design that benefits Soldiers by enhancing their ability to accomplish individual and collective tasks, improving quality of life, building confidence, and saving lives. Project Manager Soldier Warrior (PM SWAR) supports Soldiers through the acquisition of integrated Soldier system. Current systems include Land Warrior, Ground Soldier, Mounted Soldier, and Air Warrior. Project Manager Soldier Warrior develops and integrates components into complete systems designed to increase combat effectiveness, decrease combat load, and improve mission flexibility.
Product Manager Air Warrior (PM AW) integrates all aviation life support and mission equipment into an ensemble that improves the combat effectiveness of the Army aircrew member. This system leverages several Joint Service technology efforts to create a modular system that increases situational awareness and freedom of movement at the flight controls, enhances mobility to safely operate aircraft systems, reduces physiological stress, facilitates aircraft entry and exit, and provides survival gear in the event of a downed aircraft over land or water.
Product Manager Ground Soldier (PM GS) provides unprecedented situational awareness and battle command through the current system, LW, and the future system, Ground Soldier Ensemble (GSE). Digital imagery and GPS locations provided by LW/GSE enable thorough mission planning, ramp-side convoy briefings, and on-the-fly changes during missions for high-value targets (HVTs). LW/GSE allows teams, squads, and platoons to pinpoint the location of improvised explosive devices (IEDs), cells, or HVTs with improved speed and precision. LW/GSE enhances dismounted Soldiers survivability by rapidly disseminating locations of suspected enemy IEDs and snipers. LW/GSE also helps prevent fratricide by providing locations of mounted forces and dismounted Soldiers.
Product Manager Mounted Soldier System (MSS) extends digital capabilities to vehicle crew members, including commanders, drivers, and gunners.

The CROWS sensor suite includes a video camera, thermal camera, and a laser rangefinder, enabling accurate target detection and engagement under day and night conditions.
