Figaro (song)

"Figaro" is a song by British pop group Brotherhood of Man. It was released as a single in January 1978 and became the group's third and final number one hit in the UK.

Background

By 1978, Brotherhood Of Man had experienced a certain amount of chart success in both the UK and Europe, notably so with "Save Your Kisses For Me" and "Angelo". Following this, came the surprise failure of their next single "Highwayman" (released in late 1977). In January 1978, they released this song, which borrowed the title-idea from their previous No.1 "Angelo". The song became a No.1 hit in February, spending one week on top of the charts in the UK and becoming one of the twenty best selling singles of the year. This was to be Brotherhood of Man's final No.1 single. It was awarded a gold disc by the BPI in February 1978.

"Figaro" was written by band members Lee Sheriden and Martin Lee along with their manager Tony Hiller, who also produced the track. The lead vocals are sung jointly by members Sandra Stevens and Nicky Stevens.

Figaro (genus)

Figaro is a genus of catshark, and part of the family Scyliorhinidae. Until 2008, Figaro was generally considered to be a subgenus of Galeus (sawtail catsharks). The two known species are found off Australia, inhabiting deep, offshore waters on or near the bottom. Figaro contains small, slender, firm-bodied sharks that bear distinctive crests of enlarged, spiny dermal denticles along the dorsal and ventral edges of their short caudal fins. The caudal peduncle is relatively long, such as that the anal and caudal fins are some distance apart. In adult males, the inner margins of the pelvic fins are fused together to form a subtle "apron" over the claspers. F. boardmani is a predator of fishes, crustaceans, and cephalopods, and is oviparous; less is known about the F. striatus. Both are harmless and are of no economic importance.

Taxonomy

Figaro was coined as a subgenus of Pristiurus by Australian ichthyologist Gilbert Percy Whitley in a 1928 issue of the scientific journal Records of the Australian Museum, to contain his newly described species P. boardmani. In 1908, Henry Weed Fowler synonymized Pristiurus with the genus Galeus. Though Whitley elevated Figaro to the rank of full genus in 1939, most authors continued to regard Figaro as a subgenus of Galeus. In 1983, Yuan-Ting Chu and colleagues referenced Figaro to contain Galeus boardmani, Dichichthys melanobranchus (=Parmaturus melanobranchus), and F. piceus (=P. melanobranchus). However, it is uncertain whether they intended to resurrect Figaro or were simply unaware of its synonymy with Galeus, and their use of the ventral denticle crest to define the genus posed taxonomic problems. In 2008, Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) researchers Daniel Gledhill, Peter Last, and William White resurrected Figaro with additional defining characters, to contain F. boardmani and the new species F. striatus. The genus has since been generally accepted as distinct.

The sixth season of Medium, an American television series, began September 25, 2009, and ended on May 21, 2010. It aired on CBS after NBC canceled the show after 5 seasons.

Plot

After five years on NBC, CBS picked Medium up on Friday nights between Ghost Whisperer and Numb3rs. Allison is finally out of her coma after suffering from a brain tumor on her brain stem and at first she can barely use her right hand, but as the season progresses she gets better and better. For the first few episodes Mrs. DuBois walks with a cane and does physical therapy. She got to keep her gift because she delayed the surgery from season 5 at the very end to catch Oswaldo Castillo. Allison's friend who was in the hospital with her (played by Martha Plimpton) dies under mysterious circumstances and Allison realizes it was the doctor who saved her life. The Halloween episode Bite Me is a take on Night of the Living Dead where Allison uses her dream to catch a killer no one would never suspect. Another greedy doctor creates a vaccine hoping to make millions by infecting people, but the courageous guy that the doctor gave it to, killed himself. Joe gets a new job, but to his dismay he gets to work with a very eccentric leader played by Joel Moore. After Terry (Joe's last boss) sold the company, the people that bought it out wanted to keep Joe on working thee days a week in San Diego, but when Allison got sick he had to resign his position. By now, all three girls are growing up with Ariel graduating high school. Allison learns a valuable lesson in one episode where she tries desperately to get Ariel to do the things she does, but soon realizes, Ariel has to live her life and move on and the college she wants to attend is Dartmouth College in New Hampshire. Lee and Lynn have a baby and decide to get married in the final episode.

The seventh and final season of Medium, an American television series, began broadcasting September 24, 2010 on CBS. The seventh and final season ended on January 21, 2011. The season premiered to only 6.10 million viewers while the season and series finale got 7.87 million viewers the highest in over a year since 6.12 on January 15, 2010.
