This video is about how to deal with loneliness, and how to stop feeling lonely. If you would like to know how to cope with loneliness, you first have to understand what is causing your loneliness. In any moment that you are dealing with loneliness, what is going on in that moment? The only thing happening is thoughts telling stories about how much better life would be if you had a friend or lover. When you are distracted from those thoughts, there is no loneliness. Loneliness is not created by being alone. If it was, then every person would always feel lonely when they are alone.
In order to understand to stop feeling lonely, you have to really understand what causes loneliness. The answer for, how to deal with loneliness, is to discover that being with others (friends or lovers) can't make you happy because it can't get rid of the thoughts in your head. When you see that being with others can't make you happy, then that means this moment isn't insufficient in any way. That eliminates the loneliness and sense of lack.

Brendan Myers is the author of thirteen books in fiction and nonfiction. He has taught philosophy at six different institutions in Canada and in Europe, and provided policy research for government agencies, labour unions, and game design studios. In 2012, prompted by the excessive prices of college textbooks, he ran a successful Kickstarter campaign to produce a texbook in logic and critical thinking, which he made available to the world for free. Myers' ideas have been featured by the Pacific Business & Law Institute, the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency, the Order of Bards Ovates & Druids, as well as numerous environmental groups, interfaith groups, and humanist societies around the world. Originally from Elora, Ontario, and a graduate of Guelph's BA Drama and MA Philosophy programme, Brendan now serves as professor of philosophy at CEGEP Heritage College, in Gatineau, Quebec.

Loneliness is an unpleasant feeling in which a person feels a strong sense of emptiness and solitude resulting from inadequate levels of social relationships. Loneliness is not a subjective experience, since humans are social creatures by nature. Loneliness has also been described as social pain — a psychological mechanism meant to alert an individual of isolation and motivate her/him to seek social connections.
People can experience loneliness for many reasons and many life events are associated with it, like the lack of friendship relations during childhood and adolescence, or the physical absence of meaningful people around a person are a few causes for loneliness. At the same time, loneliness may be a symptom of another social or psychological problem, such as chronic depression.
Many people experience loneliness for the first time when they are left alone as infants. It is also a very common, though normally temporary, consequence of a breakup, divorce, or loss of any important long-term relationship. In these cases, it may stem both from the loss of a specific person and from the withdrawal from social circles caused by the event or the associated sadness.

“Every Monday during the summer, some of the residents of Lyme, New Hampshire, gather up fruits and vegetables from their gardens to donate to Veggie Cares, a program that distributes local food to people living alone. Volunteers collect, sort, and package the produce, then head out in separate directions to deliver the food to some Lyme's most vulnerable, isolated residents.
While the stated goal of the program is to provide people with healthy food, Veggie Cares volunteers also deliver companionship. Visits are often more than a quick drop-off—they may involve a shared cup of tea, an offer to replace burned-out light bulbs, or a chance to check in on sick or elderly neighbors.
Nine million elderly people currently suffer from food insecurity in the United States, and the produce provided by Veggie Cares is one way to safeguard the health of Lyme residents who may be at risk. But recent research supports the idea that the companionship the volunteers provide may be physically nourishing in its own way.”
