She won all five Golden Globes for which she was nominated, and was tied with Meryl Streep for wins until 2007 when Streep was awarded a sixth. Russell won a Tony Award in 1953 for Best Performance by an Actress in a Musical for her portrayal of Ruth in the Broadway show Wonderful Town (a musical based on the film My Sister Eileen, in which she also starred).
Russell was known for playing character roles, exceptionally wealthy, dignified ladylike women, as well as for being one of the few actresses of her time who regularly played professional women, such as judges, ers, and psychiatrists.[2] She had a wide career span from the 1930s to the 1970s and attributed her long career to the fact that, although usually playing classy and glamorous roles, she never became a sex symbol, not being famous for her looks.[3]
Russell continued to display her talent for comedy in the classic screwball comedy His Girl Friday (1940), directed by Howard Hawks. In the film, a reworking of Ben Hecht's story The Front Page, Russell played quick-witted ace er Hildy Johnson, who was also the ex-wife of her newspaper editor Walter Burns (Cary Grant).
In the 1940s, she made comedies such as The Feminine Touch (1941) and Take a Letter, Darling (1942), dramas including Sister Kenny (1946), and Mourning Becomes Electra (1947), and a murder mystery The Velvet Touch (1948).

In 1860, "Big Sam" Dabney, the founder of the Dabney plantation in Levington, Mississippi, urges his granddaughter Morna to marry her military officer beau, Clay MacIvor, before he dies. Morna begins to feel her elderly grandfather's urgency when she realizes her younger sister Aven is also interested in Clay. Clay, however, feels that they should delay their wedding, as civil war is imminent. Learning that Mississippi plans to leave the Union upon Lincoln's election, Big Sam collapses and dies. Incensed by an editorial about his grandfather, Morna's brother Bruce is later stopped from challenging Keith Alexander, the rakish publisher and editor of The Mississippi Whig , to a duel by Tishomingo, Big Sam's Choctaw Indian friend. Keith rides to the Dabney plantation on the pretext of making amends and quickly runs afoul of Clay. Upon Lincoln's election, Clay leaves Levington for Washington, refusing Morna's pleas to marry. With Clay away, Keith begins his courtship of Morna. Meanwhile, Morna's father Hoab makes plans to annex Levington Valley from Mississippi and declare it a neutral area, and, though skeptical, Keith agrees to give Hoab his newspaper's support. Later, Morna is paralyzed in a horseback riding accident, so the illegitimate Keith, having fallen in love with her, writes his powerful father in Washington to request an emergency leave for Clay. Upon his return to Levington, Clay refuses to break his engagement to the invalid Morna, yet begins a romance with Aven. As the secession of the southern states from the Union begins, Hoab and his supporters rally to the neutral Levington, and Clay, a Confederate loyalist, is ordered to leave the valley. He and Aven then elope, breaking Morna's heart. Though Dr. MacIntosh declares Morna's disability untreatable, Tishomingo begins Indian massage therapy, and months later, Morna begins to regain movement in her legs. Keith then makes his now honorable intentions clear, but Hoab warns him that Morna is still hopelessly in love with Clay. In the meantime, Clay uses his knowledge of the Dabneys' land to prepare for a Confederate assault on Levington, which includes blockading of the valley's supply lines to the Gulf of Mexico. As the rainy season begins, Keith heads south with three hundred men in hopes of bringing new supplies to Levington by mule trains. Tishomingo and Bruce, however, capture one of Clay's men, and learn that a Confederate attack upon the valley from the north is imminent. Knowing that Keith is twelve hours away, Morna rides to the Confederate camp to meet with Clay. Upon learning of Morna's plan, Tishomingo rides ahead to stop her, but is shot and killed by a Confederate sentry. Morna then seduces Clay, delaying the attack long enough for Keith's men to be recalled to Levington. The next morning, Morna tells Clay why she seduced him, but he, in turn, informs her that he used the time to move his cannons forward, realizing with her arrival that a surprise attack was impossible. As the Confederate attack begins, Keith orders his men to retreat into the swamps from the cannon fire. The Levington men are defeated nevertheless, but the sharpshooter Keith manages to kill Clay before the battle ends. Afterward, Morna returns to her family, and Hoab accuses her of disloyalty. Keith, however, states that her actions were heroic and openly proclaims his love. Finally realizing his responsibility in the destruction of the Dabney plantation, Hoab collapses and dies in his wife Shellie's arms. Keith then tells Morna that her family legacy will survive, as long as the tap root upon which Big Sam proclaimed his ownership lives on.

As the show came to television, black actors took over the overwhelming majority of the roles; white characters were infrequent. Amos 'n' Andy began as one of the first radio comedy series, written and voiced by Freeman Gosden and Charles Correll and originating from station WMAQ in Chicago. After the program was first broadcast in 1928, it grew and became a hugely popular radio series. Early episodes were broadcast from the El Mirador Hotel in Palm Springs, California. The show ran as a nightly radio serial from 1928 until 1943, as a weekly situation comedy from 1943 until 1955, and as a nightly disc-jockey program from 1954 until 1960. A television adaptation ran on CBS-TV from 1951 until 1953, and continued in syndicated reruns from 1954 until 1966.

Lionel Barrymore speaks of his life, his transition. His mother and father were there, friends and people he know in the business (show business.) he describes great plays with all kinds of lights and colors, magnificent spectacles, of meeting Shakespeare and many other famous singers and such. He says he didn't get along with his brother John on earth, but now they get along fine.
"... and also I have a dog here, that I am very fond of ... if anyone told me, years ago when I was on earth, that animals existed after death ... oh, I was pretty broad mined about these things, I wouldn't have believed that ... I have a realization now, that we are very much responsible for the animal kingdom, they depend a great deal on us, more than we realize ...we help them a great deal you know ..."

Rosalind Russell (June 4, 1907 -- November 28, 1976) was an American actress of stage and screen,[1] perhaps best known for her role as a fast-talking newspaper er in the Howard Hawks screwball comedy His Girl Friday, as well as the role of Mame Dennis in the film Auntie Mame.
Over the course of her career, Russell earned four Academy Award nominations for Best Actress: My Sister Eileen (1942); Sister Kenny (1946); Mourning Becomes Electra (1947); and the movie version of Auntie Mame (1958). She received a Special Academy Award, the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, in 19

Another classic presentation of the Lux Radio Theater. "Key Largo," aired live on November 28th, 1949. Reprising their roles from the classic Warner Brothers film released in 1948 are: Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall, Edward G. Robinson and Lionel Barrymore - a stellar cast to be sure! This was based on a play of the same name by Maxwell Anderson and published in 1939. Hope you will enjoy. Amos 'n' Andy is a sitcom set in Manhattan's historic black community of Harlem. The show was very popular in the United States from the 1920s through the 1950s on both radio and television. The radio show was written and voiced by two white actors playing a number of different characters: the titular Amos Jones and Andrew Hogg Brown, George Stevens, better known as "The Kingfish," "Lightnin'", and many others. The number of characters portrayed by the two performers required not only their own vocal versatility, but compelled them to invent a number of innovative microphone techniques to help convey the illusion of multiple characters in the same space.

Lee takes over and devotes her life to paying off Larry's debts and raising her two step-children. Prior to her marriage, Lee had turned down the proposal of Chris Matthews, wealthy ship builder and college friend of Larry's, but he had remained as a true friend to both. On the night of the suicide, Lee and Chris had attended a dinner party together and, horrified and shocked at the death, Lee sends Chris away, and for ten years does everything possible for the children to make up for the loss of their father.

This movie is very interesting, especially for the era that in which it was made The subject of the film, which I don't want to give away, in the field of medicine, was quite a new one, and historically significant. Also, movie clips are shown of her famous relatives: Her father John Barrymore, Jr., grandfather John Barrymore, her grandfather's older brother Lionel Barrymore, and great aunt Ethel Barrymore. They were all famous for movies and stage work. Drew's aunt Diana Barrymore, died from alcohol at the age of 39. I can still remember when Diana died - everyone was shocked because she was young and beautiful, also popular in the social whirl because of her family background. It was very big news when it happened!
