The pharaoh ant (Monomorium pharaonis) is a small (2 mm) yellow or light brown, almost transparent ant notorious for being a major indoor nuisance pest, especially in hospitals. The pharaoh ant, whose origins are unknown, has now been introduced to virtually every area of the world, including Europe, the Americas, Australasia and Southeast Asia. This species is polygynous, meaning each colony contains many queens, leading to unique caste interactions and colony dynamics. This also allows the colony to fragment into bud colonies quickly. Colonies do not display aggression toward each other; this is known as unicoloniality. Monomorium pharaonis is also notable for its complex foraging system, involving intricate trail routes maintained with several pheromones. It was the first ant species discovered to use a negative (repellant) pheromone. These chemicals are integral for communication in this species. Pharaoh ants are a tropical species, but they thrive in buildings almost anywhere, even in temperate regions provided central heating is present.
Pharaoh (/ˈfeɪ.roʊ/, /fɛr.oʊ/ or /fær.oʊ/) is the common title of the Kings of Ancient Egypt until the Macedonian conquest.
The word pharaoh ultimately was derived from a compound word represented as pr-3, written with the two biliteral hieroglyphs pr "house" and ꜥꜣ "column". It was used only in larger phrases such as smr pr-aa 'Courtier of the High House', with specific reference to the buildings of the court or palace. From the twelfth dynasty onward, the word appears in a wish formula 'Great House, may it live, prosper, and be in health', but again only with reference to the royal palace and not the person.
During the reign of Thutmose III (circa 1479–1425 BC) in the New Kingdom, after the foreign rule of the Hyksos during the Second Intermediate Period, pharaoh became the form of address for a person who was king.
The earliest instance where pr-aa is used specifically to address the ruler is in a letter to Amenhotep IV (Akhenaten), who reigned circa 1353–1336 BC, which is addressed to 'Pharaoh, all life, prosperity, and health!. During the eighteenth dynasty (16th to 14th centuries BC) the title pharaoh was employed as a reverential designation of the ruler. About the late twenty-first dynasty (10th century BC), however, instead of being used alone as before, it began to be added to the other titles before the ruler's name, and from the twenty-fifth dynasty (eighth to seventh centuries BC) it was, at least in ordinary usage, the only epithet prefixed to the royal appellative.

This is a super long video on my current ant colony. One important point in this video is the mention of cycling your formicariums. Nest cycling basically means periodically adding brand new or freshly cleaned formicariums to your setup so your colony can move out of a dirty or old formicarium. This dirty formicarium can then be cleaned and later reintroduced to your colony's setup. Visit us at http://www.antscanada.com for more!
Just purchased a new home that sat vacant for a while. There are a couple different types of ants that have moved in, we'll call them squatter ants. The eviction notice has been served.
It's the annual battle against the teeny tiny Pharaoh ant. This ant is so small that the yellow toothpick looks huge! You can't spray them or they will scatter and branch into several colonies. The best attack is to feed them a protein mixed with borax. The borax levels have to be low though or they won't take it. The low borax dose means you have to keep feeding them for a few days but it works eventually. I come out on top every year. One way to stop them from satelliting out too far from they bait is to wipe and ant spray in a perimeter around the bait. This contains them and keeps them focused on the poison.
One of the 100 queens in her egg chamber.

. says nowhere to go,
Hot as the dessert, she stings like a rose.
Waiting for someone to get her that text,
Protection, the friction, so good in a text.
Dance with the devil and she's in control,
Give her the chance and she'll burn thorough your soul.
Faster and faster we head by disaster
There's no slowing down till we fail!
Chorus:
Now I'm busy like a freight train,
Tired of being insane!
Money I don't care,
Come on you, I want more, and more, and more!
She got me wrapped around... like a ...
Nothing outside of this room means a thing.
Every last touch... chosen for more,
Too late for leaving when locking the door.
Dance with the devil and she's in control,
Give her the chance and she'll burn thorough your soul.
Faster and faster we head by disaster
There's no slowing down till we fail!
Man busy like a freight train,
Tired of being insane!
Money I don't care,
Come on, I want more, and more and more!
Chorus:
Faster and faster we head by disaster
There's no slowing down...,
Tired of being insane!
