The Saints are a rock band, originating in Brisbane, Australia founded by Chris Bailey (singer-songwriter, later guitarist), Ivor Hay (drummer), and Ed Kuepper (guitarist-songwriter) in 1974. Alongside mainstay Bailey, the group has had numerous line-ups. In 1975, contemporaneously with American punk rock band the Ramones, The Saints were employing the fast tempos, raucous vocals and "buzz saw" guitar that characterised early punk rock. With their debut single, "(I'm) Stranded", in September 1976, they became the first "punk" band outside the US to release a record, ahead of better-known acts including the Sex Pistols and The Clash. They are one of the first and most influential groups of the genre.
In early 1979, the Saints had imploded, leaving Bailey to continue the band, with a variable line-up. All Fools Day peaked in the Top 30 on the Australian Kent Music Report Albums Chart in April 1986. Bailey also has a solo career and had relocated to Sweden by 1994. The band was inducted into the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Hall of Fame in 2001.
Liturgy (Greek: λειτουργία) is the customary public worship performed by a specific religious group, according to its particular beliefs, customs and traditions.
The word, sometimes rendered by its English translation "service", may refer to an elaborate formal ritual such as the Eastern Orthodox Divine Liturgy (Greek: Θεία Λειτουργία), Catholic Mass, the Eucharist or Mass (Anglican Communion) or a daily activity such as the Muslim salah and Jewish services. As a religious phenomenon, liturgy is a communal response to the sacred through activity reflecting praise, thanksgiving, supplication, or repentance. Ritualization may be associated with life events such as birth, coming of age, marriage and death. It thus forms the basis for establishing a relationship with a divine agency, as well as with other participants in the liturgy. Methods of dress, preparation of food, application of cosmetics or other hygienic practices are all considered liturgical activities.
The word liturgy, derived from the technical term in ancient Greek, leitourgia, signifies the often expensive offers of service to the people, and thus to the polis and the state. Through the leitourgia, the rich carried a financial burden and were correspondingly rewarded with honours. The leitourgia became both mandatory and honorific, supporting the patron's standing among the elite. The holder of a Hellenic leitourgia was not taxed a specific sum, but was entrusted with a particular ritual, which could be performed with greater or lesser magnificence. The chief sphere remained that of civic religion, embodied in the festivals: M.I. Finley notes "in Demosthenes' day there were at least 97 liturgical appointments in Athens for the festivals, rising to 118 in a (quadrennial) Panathenaic year." Eventually, under the Roman Empire, such obligations, known as munera, devolved into a competitive and ruinously expensive burden that was avoided when possible.
Liturgy is an American black metal band from Brooklyn, New York. The band features Hunter Hunt-Hendrix (vocals, guitar), Bernard Gann (guitar), Greg Fox (drums) and Tyler Dusenbury (bass). The band describes its style as "transcendental black metal," which is described in a declaration written by Hunt-Hendrix. Hunter cites Swans, Glenn Branca, and Lightning Bolt as influences.
Originally the solo project of Hunter Hunt-Hendrix, the band expanded to a four piece in 2008, after the release of the 12" Immortal Life, which was followed in 2009 with their debut album Renihilation. The group's second album, Aesthethica, was released in May 2011 by Thrill Jockey, and was ranked as number 26 on Spin's 50 Best Albums of 2011.
In a 2012 interview with Pitchfork Media, Hunter Hunt-Hendrix expressed his desire to move away from black metal on future releases in order to avoid "self-imitation," noting that Aesthethica's recognition "turns it into safe territory." He suggests that the next release could include bells or a focus on electronics.
"Scars" is the second single from the debut album, Just Like You, of American Idol season eight finalist Allison Iraheta. It was written by Toby Gad and Elyssa James. Gad also produced the track.
Reception of "Scars" has been generally positive.
Entertainment Weekly's Michael Slezak wrote "Meanwhile, ballads like the understated Scars and the bluesy Trouble Is separate Iraheta from questionably abled Miley/Selena contemporaries. Girl. Can. Sang!".
Kelsey Paine from Billboard.com agreed writing "soulful tunes like "Scars" and the bluesy "Trouble Is" showcase the raw talent that made Iraheta a star on "Idol" and set her apart from other young pop upstarts."
AOL Radio writer Sara D Anderson praises Scars, noting "'Scars' is one of the many songs (others 'Robot Love,' 'Trouble Is' and 'Friday I'll Be Over U') critically appraised off her debut album that showcases her husky yet powerful vocals and spunky attitude."
Iraheta performed the song on February 25, 2010, on the Top 24 elimination episode of the ninth season of American Idol. She also performed an acoustic version of the song on JoJo Wright's radio show JoJo on the Radio on KIIS-FM. Due to Iraheta's popularity in Asia, Iraheta also headlined concerts in Manila and Bali, performing 'Scars' at both.
"Scars" was due to be the second and final single from Australian singer Natalie Imbruglia's fourth studio album, Come to Life. The single was originally due to be released on 26 April 2010, but, due to contractual issues with the record label, was cancelled.
The digital download was made available for a short time on Amazon, but was later removed upon a request from the record company. It was announced in June that a physical release of the single would be available from 5 July 2010, nearly a year after the previous single, "Want", was released. Come July, however, no copies of the single made it to the shelves. As of August 2010, all sources of the physical single and digital download have cancelled the release. It is unknown if the single will have a full and official release, and if so, where it will be available to download or buy, and with or without the music video and song receiving airplay on radio and music TV channels. The video for the song was recorded and directed by Max & Dania, and was due to be released on 14 March 2010. However, it was later postponed following a request by Imbruglia.
Scars is a 2002 album by the Gary Moore-led blues rock group called Scars (not to be confused with the seminal Edinburgh post-punk group called Scars).
In 2002 Gary Moore decided to form a band with ex-Skunk Anansie bassist Cass Lewis and Primal Scream drummer Darrin Mooney called Scars. Their studio album "Scars", released on September 2nd on Sanctuary Records, includes compositions reminiscent of the sound of artists like Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan, in a modern way.
