On this very special episode of Head 2 Head, presented by Tire Rack, we present a hypercar battle for the ages: the McLaren P1 versus the Porsche 918 Spyder. Both of these cars have carbon fiber tubs and body panels. Both have small displacement, high revving V-8s packed between their passenger compartments and rear axles. Both use twin-clutch transmissions, carbon ceramic brakes, and active aerodynamics. Both have roughly 900 hp. Both are plug-in hybrids. And today, with the help of pro racing driver Randy Pobst, we find out which one is fastest around Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca!

This is the kind of dream day you never forget! Having arrived at the hotel for the start of Rallye Germania, driving a Koenigsegg Agera R, I met Vlad, the son of the owner of this spectacular MSO McLaren P1 who asked his father if it was possible for me to take a drive in the British hypercar... fortunately for me the answer was yes!
Naturally with just an opportunity for a short drive in town, I wasn't truly able to push the car but it was fantastic to get a feel for McLaren's exceptional hybrid machine. Baring a lot of similarities to the 650S to which I am so used to driving, but with so much added power from the instant torque of the electric motors, and of course the ability to drive in pure e-mode!
Hopefully I will have an opportunity in a more suitable environment for a more technical review of the McLaren P1, but I'm not going to complain about such a spectacular opportunity to give you a first driving impression! A huge thanks of course to Vlad for arranging this, and his father for permission to drive the car.

James Douglas Muir "Jay" Leno /ˈlɛnoʊ/ (born April 28, 1950) is an American stand-up comedian and television host.
From 1992 to 2009, Leno was the host of NBC's The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Beginning in September 2009, Leno started a primetime talk show, titled The Jay Leno Show, which aired weeknights at 10:00 p.m. (Eastern Time, UTC-5), also on NBC. After The Jay Leno Show was canceled in January 2010 amid a host controversy, Leno returned to host The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on March 1, 2010.
James "Jay" Leno was born in New Rochelle, New York, in 1950. His mother, Catherine (née Muir; 1911–1993), a homemaker, was born in Greenock, Scotland, and came to the United States at age 11. Leno's father, Angelo (1910–1994), who worked as an insurance salesman, was born in New York to immigrants from Flumeri, Italy. Leno grew up in Andover, Massachusetts, and although his high school guidance counselor recommended that he drop out of school, he later obtained a Bachelor's degree in speech therapy from Emerson College, where he started a comedy club in 1973. Leno's siblings include his late older brother, Patrick, who was a Vietnam veteran and a lawyer.

My First Drive in the McLaren P1 [Shmee's Adventures]
This is the kind of dream day you never forget! Having arrived at the hotel for the start of Rallye Germania, driving a Koenigsegg Agera R, I met Vlad, the son of the owner of this spectacular MSO McLaren P1 who asked his father if it was possible for me to take a drive in the British hypercar... fortunately for me the answer was yes! Naturally with just an opportunity for a short drive in town, I wasn't truly able to push the car but it was fantastic to get a feel for McLaren's exceptional hybrid machine. Baring a lot of similarities to the 650S to which I am so used to driving, but with so much added power from the instant torque of the electric motors, and of course the ability to drive in pure e-mode! Hopefully I will have an opportunity in a more suitable environment for a more tech... -

NEAR CRASH - Mclaren P1 GTR Spins Out at Laguna Seca
While spectating one of the first Mclaren GTR private track days at Laguna Seca, one of the demo/factory owned P1 GTRs nearly crashed into the concrete barrier at the infamous corkscrew turn. The car was being driven by a professional driver; he was to set a laptime so the P1 GTR clients can try to match or beat the lap he sets. He was going absolutely 100% and overtook a handful of drivers. Luckily nobody was injured and no other cars were involved. Either way, it was insane to witness it firsthand. While spectating one of the first Mclaren GTR private track days at Laguna Seca, one of the demo/factory owned P1 GTRs nearly crashed into the concrete barrier at the infamous corkscrew turn. The car was being driven by a professional driver; he was to set a laptime so the P1 GTR clients can try to match or beat the lap he sets. He was going absolutely 100% and overtook a handful of drivers.
Luckily nobody was injured and no other cars were involved. Either way, it was insane to witness it firsthand.

J'ai eu la chance de les voir descendre du camion et de les voir rouler pour se garer devant le Palace Royal Monceau à Paris.
