Marcus Jamal Hopson (born July 18, 1985), better known by his stage name Hopsin, is an American rapper, record producer, director and actor from Los Angeles, California. In 2007, he was signed to Ruthless Records, and has since founded his own record label, Funk Volume, in 2009. Hopsin has released four studio albums, Gazing at the Moonlight through Ruthless Records, Raw, Knock Madness and Pound Syndrome along with the collaborative project Haywire (with SwizZz) through Funk Volume. He is well known for his use of white colored eye contacts in music videos, performances, and interviews.
Marcus Hopson was born on July 18, 1985 in Los Angeles, and was raised in the Panorama City neighborhood of Los Angeles. He attended James Monroe High School, where he was placed into special educational classes. Hopsin has been an avid skateboarder since the age of twelve, as many of his music videos feature him skateboarding. He started rapping at sixteen years old, and took his hobby more seriously by 2003 which is the year the majority of the tracks from Hopsin's self-produced album Emurge were recorded. He dropped out of high school during his senior year in 2004 to pursue a career in music, purchased a microphone, and installed FL Studio (known as FruityLoops at the time) on his computer. While starting his music career, Hopsin decided to sport colored eye contacts while performing in his music videos. He stated that he used the contacts to give himself a memorable appearance and differentiate himself from other African American rappers with the cliché appearance. He credits Eminem as the rapper that initially got him interested into hip hop music.

He got pissed off at RevoltTV Studios because they wanted him to play his songs but only clean versions which he never does, he was supposed to Censor himself even though he never rehearsed it and only gave him 15 mins to do so so just got mad and left, i respect him for that. Sucks how i waited in line for like 3 hours just to mainly see him but its cool.
Hip-Hop fans were stunned after Hopsin announced that he was leaving Funk Volume after falling out with co-founder Damien Ritter. The "No Words" rapper went into detail about the breaking point he had with the way he was being treated at the label, as he claims that Ritter repeatedly told him that he "didn't work hard," which he found to be disrespectful. Hopsin explained that after the third time Ritter insulted him, he had enough and decided to leave the label. During the conversation Hopsin also spoke about how his rise to becoming a self-made millionaire in his late 20s, which he said he always knew would happen if he put in the hard work to realize his dreams. And while he was able to make a lot of money off of the Funk Volume label, Hopsin admits he was young and naive when he gave ...

After leaving Funk Volume, Hopsin sits on the Vlad couch to discuss his fall out with co-founder Damien Ritter, his relationship with his former labelmates and how the success of the label made him a millionaire. Hopsin starts off the conversation speaking about his $500K battle rap challenge and how he, Dizzy Wright, and Jarren Benton fared against Crooked I's Horseshoe Gang. Unlike Horseshoe's version of the story where they quickly admit to killing Funk Volume, Hop denies that occurrence. He goes on to share a humorous anecdote about how a picture with a fan made Crooked press him, and how he nicely found a way to avoid those problems. While on the topic of lyricism Vlad and Hop go back and forth on whether 2 Chainz is a lyricist, as it pertains to a comment the "No Words" rapper made ...

You wanna take it off tracks? Fuck it. I'll fight you
You stupid as your dumb fan puppets you lie to
Tellin them all that Lil wayne wanted to sign you
Bullshit that's a bunch of crap
There's no proof Wayne gave you a contract
Whats up with that?
And if he did put one up for grabs
You turned it down cause he wouldn't kiss you like he
does his dad
Fuckin fag back down or get burnt quick
You like the confidence I gave you on first diss?
It was on purpose, I knew if I threw the first hit
you'd respond
Now I'll prove that you ain't worth shit
Am I a beast? Of course it is true
I strangle Novi in his booth
Usin his mic cord as a noose
Board up your room, you're doomed
By my whole rep of tunes
And soon, your fans gon' turn on you
Like some wicked goons
I don't care to pull your card, you deserve it
You're the reason white rappers have it so hard
You actin tougher than a
Nappy afro that won't part, but you're like a
mannequin, all body with no heart
Your whole game is whack, Novi Novak?
C'mon, be real.. what kinda name is that?
You a shameless act, who's lame, infact
You try to gain fame
Pretend like you were raised with blacks
Black psychos? You're glad I can't be called that
I'm only crazy over Raw tracks
But you ain't nuts either nigga, so fall back
Closest thin you ever been to nuts is lickin your
daddy's ballsack
You bullshittin sayin Hop sucks
You smoke a lot, but I'm one hit of dope you should not
puff
Ya I heard your diss, it was hot stuff
I see you Googled my name
I tried yours, nothin popped up
You act like you the hugest star
You strun out like a used guitar
You couldn't get a hit standin in front of a movin car
The only time you tour is at an amusement park
Stop denyin it you can't hold me
The flow is nastier than anchovies
Don't be up at my show in Chicago tryna act like you my
damn homie
