SPOT (Système Pour l’Observation de la Terre ) (lit. "System for Earth Observation") is a high-resolution, optical imaging Earth observation satellite system operating from space. It is run by Spot Image based in Toulouse, France. It was initiated by the CNES (Centre national d'études spatiales — the French space agency) in the 1970s and was developed in association with the SSTC (Belgian scientific, technical and cultural services) and the Swedish National Space Board (SNSB). It has been designed to improve the knowledge and management of the Earth by exploring the Earth's resources, detecting and forecasting phenomena involving climatology and oceanography, and monitoring human activities and natural phenomena. The SPOT system includes a series of satellites and ground control resources for satellite control and programming, image production, and distribution. The satellites were launched with the ESA rocket launcher Ariane 2, 3, and 4.
The company SPOT Image is marketing the high-resolution images, which SPOT can take from every corner of the Earth.
In the context of spaceflight, a satellite is an object which has been placed into orbit by human endeavour. Such objects are sometimes called artificial satellites to distinguish them from natural satellites such as the Moon.
The world's first artificial satellite, the Sputnik 1, was launched by the Soviet Union in 1957. Since then, thousands of satellites have been launched into orbit around the Earth; also some satellites, notably space stations, have been launched in parts and assembled in orbit. Artificial satellites originate from more than 50 countries and have used the satellite launching capabilities of ten nations. A few hundred satellites are currently operational, whereas thousands of unused satellites and satellite fragments orbit the Earth as space debris. A few space probes have been placed into orbit around other bodies and become artificial satellites to the Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and the Sun.
Satellites are used for a large number of purposes. Common types include military and civilian Earth observation satellites, communications satellites, navigation satellites, weather satellites, and research satellites. Space stations and human spacecraft in orbit are also satellites. Satellite orbits vary greatly, depending on the purpose of the satellite, and are classified in a number of ways. Well-known (overlapping) classes include low Earth orbit, polar orbit, and geostationary orbit.

With the end of the Cold War, technology that was once top secret is now finding its way into commercial use.
For decades, the superpowers spied on each other using high-powered satellite reconnaissance.
Now these once-secret devices are being used in the private sector for everything from geological surveys to digital mapping.
These satellite pictures were once only seen by government leaders and spies.
But the Spot Image Corporation is making satellite photography available to private industry.
Spot Image's president says the change from Cold War technology to everyday use was inevitable.

Gaia satellite and amateur astronomers spot one in a billion star
An international team of researchers, with the assistance of amateur astronomers, have discovered a unique binary star system: the first known such system where one star completely eclipses the other. It is a type of two-star system known as a Cataclysmic Variable, where one super dense white dwarf star is stealing gas from its companion star, effectively 'cannibalising' it.
The system could also be an important laboratory for studying ultra-bright supernova explosions, which are a vital tool for measuring the expansion of the Universe. Details of the new research will be published in the journal Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Soc

SOUNDBITE: (English)
"So like happened with computers. Like happened with airplanes. Like happened with NASA technology, specifically semi-conductors and so forth, that same evolution is happening with satellite imagery."
SUPER CAPTION: Ted Nantz, President, Spot Image Corporation
Spot Image owns three orbiting satellites which transmit pictures back to earth in digital form.
Using Cold War technology, the satellites give a client a detailed layout of whatever piece of land they are interested in.
From its position 500-miles above the earth, the satellites can pick out 10 metre stretches of land.
And for those worried about privacy with imaging that detailed, international law says you're out of luck.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
"We operate under a policy known as open skies, open access. That means we provide satellite imagery of anywhere in the world to anybody on a commercial basis. It's a U-N policy. Almost all the satellite systems operating today commercially operate under that same policy."
SUPER CAPTION: Clark Nelson, Spot Image Corporation
However, most clients hire Spot Image for legitimate purposes.
These infra-red agricultural surveys are designed to check the effectiveness of an irrigation system.
During the Mississippi floods of 1994, Spot Image was hired to help assist various industries in assessing damage.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
"The dark blue represents the original course of the Mississippi River. The light blue is the flooded area. The way this has been processed, it will allow clients or users to actually see through the floodwaters and identify individual field boundaries. For insurance identification purposes, land property damage, et cetera and so forth. It represents a very nice historical record of what actually happened during the floods."
SUPER CAPTION: Clark Nelson, Spot Image Corporation
Spot Image says eventually clients will be able to access data right from their desktop computers.
With satellite technology expanding, the sky is the limit for companies like Spot Image.

Satellite Orbit Simulation - SPOT-2 over Sao Paulo
An international team of researchers, with the assistance of amateur astronomers, have discovered a unique binary star system: the first known such system where one star completely eclipses the other. It is a type of two-star system known as a Cataclysmic Variable, where one super dense white dwarf star is stealing gas from its companion star, effectively 'cannibalising' it.
The system could also be an important laboratory for studying ultra-bright supernova explosions, which are a vital tool for measuring the expansion of the Universe. Details of the new research will be published in the journal Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society.
The system, named Gaia14aae, is located about 730 light years away in the Draco constellation. It was discovered by the European Space Agency's Gaia satellite in August 2014 when it suddenly became five times brighter over the course of a single day.
Astronomers led by the University of Cambridge analysed the information from Gaia and determined that the sudden outburst was due to the fact that the white dwarf - which is so dense that a teaspoonful of material from it would weigh as much as an elephant - is devouring its larger companion.
Additional observations of the system made by the Center for Backyard Astrophysics (CBA), a collaboration of amateur and professional astronomers, found that the system is a rare eclipsing binary, where one star passes directly in front of the other, completely blocking it out when viewed from Earth. The two stars are tightly orbiting each other, so a total eclipse occurs roughly every 50 minutes.
"It's rare to see a binary system so well-aligned" said Dr Heather Campbell of Cambridge's Institute of Astronomy, who led the follow-up campaign for Gaia14aae. "Because of this, we can measure the system with great precision in order to figure out what these systems are made of and how they evolved. It's a fascinating system - there's a lot to be learned from it."
Using spectroscopy from the William Herschel Telescope in the Canary Islands, Campbell and her colleagues found that Gaia14aae contains large amounts of helium, but no hydrogen, which is highly unusual as hydrogen is the most common element in the Universe. The lack of hydrogen allowed them to classify Gaia14aae as a very rare type of system known as an AM Canum Venaticorum (AM CVn), a type of Cataclysmic Variable system where both stars have lost all of their hydrogen. This is the first known AM CVn system where one star totally eclipses the other.

2, Satelitní síť Globalstar má satelity pokrytu skoro celou planetu, ovšem satelity nelétají

Satellite Imagery in Agriculture
Questioning privacy, data protection, and autonomy in the field
Satellite imagery has been used since the 1960s to monitor agricultural activities at a national and international level. It is only now that the image quality and cost feasibility have made satellite imagery available to individual farmers in application to crop quality analysis, yield prediction, and other measures related to precision farming. Farmers can now pinpoint problem areas of their fields and address them on the spot, rather than blanketly spraying fertilizer and pesticides, which has the potential for environmental and economic bene

Nickelback - No Fixed Address (full album)
No Fixed Address is the eighth studio album from Canadian rock band Nickelback. It was released on November 14, 2014 in Australia via Republic Records. The album release coincides with the 6 year anniversary of their sixth studio album, Dark Horse. The album is preceded by the lead single "Edge of a Revolution", which was released on August 18, 2014. This is the band's first release on Republic Records, after leaving long-time record label Roadrunner Records in 2013. The album title, No Fixed Address, was inspired by the fact that the album was recorded in many different places, and they never settled in a single spot. Recorded on 2013–2014.

The Black Knight Satellite
Black Knight also known as the Black Knight satellite is an alleged object orbiting Earth in near-polar orbit that ufologists and fringe authors believe is approximately 13,000 years old and of extraterrestrial origin. However it is most probable that Black Knight is the result of a conflation of a number of unrelated stories.[1]
Stories[edit]
Fringe authors claim that there is a connection between long delayed echos and reports that Nikola Tesla picked up a repeating radio signal in 1899 which he believed was coming from space. The satellite explanation originated in 1954 when newspapers including the St. Louis Post Dispatch and the San Fra

2, Satelitní síť Globalstar má satelity pokrytu skoro celou planetu, ovšem satelity nelétají přes póly a tudíž póly pokryty být ani nemohou.

Farmers can now pinpoint problem areas of their fields and address them on the spot, rather than blanketly spraying fertilizer and pesticides, which has the potential for environmental and economic benefits. However, this development has launched agriculture into new territory ridden with issues of privacy, data protection, and autonomy of farm inputs and activities. This is a discussion of the state of affairs in agricultural earth observation and what we can do to ensure that it is used for improved practices and not against the producers of our food.
In 2013 the artist Mishka Henner produced the work, "Feedlots." It is a series of satellite images he found of selected cattle feedlots across Texas. Across the images one can objectively observe the the adverse effects of irresponsible farming practices. This represents the transparency and accountability that satellite imagery can enable.
At the same time, farmers were adopting precision agricultural technologies which used vegetation indices such as NDVI derived from near infra-red satellite imagery to track the progress of their crops and detect areas that didn't have enough water or nutrients. The digitisation of fields and creation of field analysis software means that farmers can download the data on a USB stick, plug it into a tractor, and apply fertiliser exactly where it is needed, which brings environmental and economic benefits.
However, as with the introduction of most new technologies there are potential issues that come along with our inexperience in these new territories. Privacy issues related to who can access and order satellite imagery of different farms, and to what degree of resolution. Data security issues for farmers to work out with the agritech companies offering the internet based services. Questions of, 'who owns my data and what can they use it for?' are coming up across the cornfields of the Midwest of the United States.
Additionally, companies that offer farming software also offer seeds, chemical fertilisers, and a whole suite of products that they oblige farmers to use. Just as Apple encourages users to use their line of synchonised products, agritech firms want farmers to start farming literal apples with their line of seeds that correspond to the fertiliser, pesticide, and the price calculations of their cloud farm planning tool.
These are issues that were never encountered by the agricultural community before, and recognition and new solutions at the onset of this new era are necessary for the future of our food.

Ekybob plays Satellite Reign Beta 0.8. Here we see gameplay of the real-time tactics game by 5 Lives Studios. The Syndicate series gets a much-needed spiritual successor. Satellite Reign is leaving Alpha and Early Access as it heads towards a full release. Take control of a squad of four agents (Soldier, Hacker, Support and Infiltrator); equip them with freshly-cloned bodies and weapons/armour fresh from the R&D; labs; send them out to infiltrate compounds, rob banks and more; and explore an open world to take on missions as you attempt to acquire Res-tech: the science of resurrection.
I'm back and able to record again! We've got a little more preparation to do before heading into the Wyvern compound, involving a spot of bribery and assassination; once the target stops glitching under the roads and buildings..! After that it's Wyvern a-go-go for researchers and some tasty prototypes.

Our new little satellite network is truly located at an awesome spot. There's lots of towns, recources and industries pretty much everywhere around us. All that we need to do is just move all the goods around. But because it's all that close, we're actually having tight space issues...

Black Sea Atlantis || the Mysterious Codes Rediscovered || Atlantis Codes 2015
A thrill-seeking Harvard linguistics professor and an ultrasecret branch of the Catholic Church go head-to-head in a race to uncover the secrets of the lost city of Atlantis. The ruins of the technologically-advanced, eerily-enigmatic ancient civilization promise their discoverer fame, fortune, and power… but hold earth-shattering secrets about the origin of man.
While world-famous linguist and archaeologist, Thomas Lourds, is shooting a film that dramatizes his flamboyant life and scientific achievements, satellites spot impossibly ancient ruins along the Spanish coast. Lourds knows exactly what it means: the Lost Continent of Atlantis has been found. The race is on, and Lourds' challengers will do anything to get there first.
Whoever controls the Lost Continent will control the world.

Did Atlantis exist? Is there a great lost city lying beneath the waves? Or is it all a load of hogwash, a legend given flesh only by the obsessive belief of the mentally disadvantaged?
Personally, on the basis of no evidence whatsoever, I lean towards the hogwash. New York writer Mark Adams has had a weakness for unsolvable ancient mysteries since childhood. One day, though, he was researching a piece about ancient philosophers when he found this sentence in a study of Plato:

Louis Post Dispatch and the San Francisco Examiner ran stories attributed to retired naval aviation major and UFO researcher Donald Keyhoe saying that the US Air Force had reported that two satellites orbiting the Earth had been detected. At this time no man-made satellites had been launched.[2]
In February 1960 there was a further report that the US Navy had detected a dark, tumbling object in an orbit inclined at 79° from the equator with an orbital period of 104.5 minutes. Its orbit was also highly eccentric with an apogee of 1,728 km (1,074 mi) and a perigee of only 216 km (134 mi). At the time the Navy was tracking a fragment of casing from the Discoverer VIII satellite launch which had a very similar orbit. The dark object was later confirmed to be another part of this casing that had been presumed lost.[2][3]
In 1973 the Scottish writer Duncan Lunan analyzed the data from the Norwegian radio researchers, coming to the conclusion that they produced a star chart pointing the way to Epsilon Boötis, a double star in the constellation of Boötes. Lunan's hypothesis was that these signals were being transmitted from a 12,600 year old object located at one of Earth's Lagrangian points. Lunan later found that his analysis had been based on flawed data and withdrew it, and at no time did he associate it with the unidentified orbiting object.[4]
An object photographed in 1998 during the STS-88 mission has been widely claimed to be this "alien artifact". However, it is more probable that the photographs are of a thermal blanket that had been lost during an EVA.[1] Alternatively, people analyzing these pictures have suggested that it could be the Pakal Spacecraft, a supposed Mayan spacecraft written about by controversial pseudoarchiological author Erich von Däniken.[5]

Hey guys,
Here's a video of Midnight Satellites/Master Splinter and the Shredders playing live at the ColdCock Whiskey anniversary party at Tommy T's in Ridgecrest. This is a little dance ditty we play- starts off with Rick James "Give it to me baby," then goes into Michael Jacksons "Billie Jean" into Sir Mix a Lots "Baby got back" into Earth Wind and Fires "Let's Groove tonight" into Ram Jams "Black Betty" into Danzigs "Mother" into Pantera's "Cowboys from Hell!" It's almost a full set in itself! You should check out some of our other Midnight Satellites videos and mashups!!!

Lisa Gutermuth: Satellite Imagery in Agriculture (deutsche Übersetzung)
https://media.ccc.de/browse/conferences/camp2015/camp2015-6858-satellite_imagery_in_agriculture.html
Satellite imagery has been used since the 1960s to monitor agricultural activities at a national and international level. It is only now that the image quality and cost feasibility have made satellite imagery available to individual farmers in application to crop quality analysis, yield prediction, and other measures related to precision farming.

2, Satelitní síť Globalstar má satelity pokrytu skoro celou planetu, ovšem satelity nelétají přes póly a tudíž póly pokryty být ani nemohou.

Bits and Bobs..

Disclaimers
Prototype disclaimer until I figure out something better: Satellite Reign contains licensed music from the likes of Protector 101 and DJ Cary. I do not claim ownership of their songs and am only using the material as it forms part of the soundtrack to the game I bought and am playing for YouTube. Please don't hurt me, please allow me to monetise my videos; although it's not like I'm actually earning anything off this..!

Our new little satellite network is truly located at an awesome spot. There's lots of towns, recources and industries pretty much everywhere around us. All that we need to do is just move all the goods around. But because it's all that close, we're actually having tight space issues...

NASA imaging satellites deliver GB's of images to Earth every day. Mapbox uses AWS to process that data in real-time and build the most complete, seamless satellite map of the world. Learn how Mapbox uses Amazon S3 and Amazon SQS to stream data from NASA into clusters of EC2 instances running a clever algorithm that stiches images together in parallel. This session includes an in-depth discussion of high-volume storage with Amazon S3, cost-effecient data processing with Amazon EC2 Spot Instances, reliable job orchestration with Amazon SQS, and demand resilience with Auto Scaling.
