The Spirit of Infirmity, a Parkinson's Diary'. is a documentary produced by Richard Moir and Peter Leiss, members of the same team that created the award winning and Logie nominated The Bridge at Midnight Trembles.
Focussing on Richard Moir and his courageous decision to undergo radical brain surgery to counteract the effects of Parkinson's disease, The Bridge at Midnight Trembles generated a tremendous response from viewers and health professionals alike when it was screened on SBS television in 2006. It subsequently screened in many countries around the world to similar acclaim.
This current production, The Spirit of Infirmity has a much broader scope. While it continues Richard's ongoing journey, it also follows other people dealing with Parkinson's and portrays the variety of their challenges and methods of coping.
In Newcastle we meet the Mills family, where the two young daughters are both affected by early Parkinson's symptoms. Like Richard, the girls have undergone deep brain surgery, but in order to have their operations they had to travel to France -- the only country that allows such an operation to be performed on young children.
In Melbourne we meet Nerissa Mapes who was diagnosed at the age of 28, and has become an inspiring speaker and tireless fundraiser for Parkinson's Victoria and the Howard Florey Institute. Characteristic of her attitude to life, Nerissa's website greets you with the slogan, 'A Cure in My Lifetime'.
The documentary examines the possibility of finding that cure, along the way meeting scientists who are passionate about tracking down such an elusive quarry, and other participants who, somewhat controversially, insist on the power of the sufferer's own mind to influence the healing process.
The Spirit of Infirmity can perhaps be summarised as a story of physical, emotional and spiritual survival in the face of appalling odds.

Helen Morse (born 24 January 1947) is an Australian actress who has appeared in films, on television, and on stage.
Morse was born in Harrow on the Hill, Middlesex, England. She was the oldest of four children; her parents were a doctor and nurse. She attended school at Presbyterian Ladies' College, in Burwood, Victoria, and studied acting at the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney.
Morse won the Australian Film Institute Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her performance in the 1976 film Caddie. Her notable screen performances also include roles in the film Picnic at Hanging Rock (1975) and the television miniseries A Town Like Alice (1981). In the 2000s, she occasionally appeared in theatre productions in Australia.
Morse was married to Australian actor/director Sandy Harbutt, with whom she starred in Stone.
Morse has worked with many companies including Melbourne Theatre Company, The Ensemble, The Independent, Nimrod, Marian Street, Sydney Theatre Company, Hunter Valley Theatre Company, Queensland Theatre Company, Harvest Theatre Company (South Australia) and the State Theatre Company of South Australia.

After stealing chickens belonging to Captain Sugamo, played by Richard Narita, to feed starving women prisoners, Joe Harmon, played by Bryan Brown is imprisoned. This current production, The Spirit of Infirmity has a much broader scope. While it continues Richard's ongoing journey, it also follows other people dealing with Parkinson's and portrays the variety of their challenges and methods of coping.
In Newcastle we meet the Mills family, where the two young daughters are both affected by early Parkinson's symptoms. Like Richard, the girls have undergone deep brain surgery, but in order to have their operations they had to travel to France -- the only country that allows such an operation to be performed on young children.
In Melbourne we meet Nerissa Mapes who was diagnosed at the age of 28, and has become an inspiring speaker and tireless fundraiser for Parkinson's Victoria and the Howard Florey Institute. Characteristic of her attitude to life, Nerissa's website greets you with the slogan, 'A Cure in My Lifetime'.
The documentary examines the possibility of finding that cure, along the way meeting scientists who are passionate about tracking down such an elusive quarry, and other participants who, somewhat controversially, insist on the power of the sufferer's own mind to influence the healing process.
The Spirit of Infirmity can perhaps be summarised as a story of physical, emotional and spiritual survival in the face of appalling odds.

The Nativity of Jesus, or simply The Nativity, refers to the accounts of the birth of Jesus. The traditional accounts appear in the Canonical gospels. Various apocryphal texts also mention it. The Nativity is the basis of Christmas, which is an important Holy day celebrated by Christians worldwide.
The accounts of the Nativity of Jesus in the New Testament appear in only two of the four Canonical Gospels, namely the Gospel of Luke and the Gospel of Matthew. Events preceding the birth of Jesus, e.g. The Annunciation to Mary and the Visitation of Mary to Elizabeth appear almost entirely in the Gospel of Luke. The account of the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem appears in both the Gospels of Matthew and Luke - which also includes the Adoration of the Shepherds by itself. The follow on events such as the Adoration of the Magi and the Flight into Egypt appear mostly in the Gospel of Matthew. The Quran, like the Gospels, places the virgin birth of Jesus in Bethlehem.
Modern scholars have questioned the historicity of the Gospel texts, their completeness and consistency, e.g. the references to dates in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke with respect to the death of Herod the Great and the Census of Quirinius, the text's prophecy that "He will be called a Nazorean" and the reference to Isaiah. Scholars have also suggested solutions for the resolution of these issues.
Christian theology regards the Nativity of Jesus as an event of cosmic significance through which the Incarnation of Jesus as a "new man" undid the damage caused by the fall of the first man, Adam. In this teaching, in contrast to Adam, Jesus acted as an obedient Son in the fulfillment of the divine will and was therefore free from sin and could hence reveal the righteousness of God the Father and bring about salvation. The theology of Nativity has had Christological implications from the earliest days of Christianity and the initial debates resulted in early schisms in the Church by the 5th century.
The depiction of the Nativity scene in the 13th century was a major turning point in the development of a new "tender image of Jesus" in addition to the Kyrios image as the "Lord and Master" which had been prevalent since the early days of Christianity. As the Franciscans began to emphasize the humility of Jesus both at his birth and his death, the supplementation of the tender joys of his Nativity to the agony of his Crucifixion ushered in a whole new range of religious emotions which had wide ranging cultural impacts on Christianity.
The Artistic depiction of Nativity has been a major subject for Christian artists since the 4th century. The Nativity has been depicted in many different media, both pictorial and sculptural. The largest body of musical works about Christ in which he does not speak are about the Nativity. A large body of liturgical music, as well as a great deal of para-liturgical texts, Carols and folk music exist about the Nativity of Jesus. Christmas Carols have come to be viewed as a cultural-signature of the Nativity of Jesus.
The main religious celebration among members of the Catholic Church and other Christian groups is the Church service on Christmas Eve or on the morning of Christmas Day. During the forty days leading up to Christmas, the Eastern Orthodox Church practices the Nativity Fast, while the majority of Christian congregations (including the Catholic Church, the Anglican Communion, many Mainline churches, and Baptists) begin observing the liturgical season of Advent four Sundays before Christmas—both are seen as times of spiritual cleansing, recollection and renewal to prepare for the celebration of the birth of Jesus.

Scholars have also suggested solutions for the resolution of these issues.
Christian theology regards the Nativity of Jesus as an event of cosmic significance through which the Incarnation of Jesus as a "new man" undid the damage caused by the fall of the first man, Adam. In this teaching, in contrast to Adam, Jesus acted as an obedient Son in the fulfillment of the divine will and was therefore free from sin and could hence reveal the righteousness of God the Father and bring about salvation. The theology of Nativity has had Christological implications from the earliest days of Christianity and the initial debates resulted in early schisms in the Church by the 5th century.
The depiction of the Nativity scene in the 13th century was a major turning point in the development of a new "tender image of Jesus" in addition to the Kyrios image as the "Lord and Master" which had been prevalent since the early days of Christianity. As the Franciscans began to emphasize the humility of Jesus both at his birth and his death, the supplementation of the tender joys of his Nativity to the agony of his Crucifixion ushered in a whole new range of religious emotions which had wide ranging cultural impacts on Christianity.
The Artistic depiction of Nativity has been a major subject for Christian artists since the 4th century. The Nativity has been depicted in many different media, both pictorial and sculptural. The largest body of musical works about Christ in which he does not speak are about the Nativity. A large body of liturgical music, as well as a great deal of para-liturgical texts, Carols and folk music exist about the Nativity of Jesus. Christmas Carols have come to be viewed as a cultural-signature of the Nativity of Jesus.
The main religious celebration among members of the Catholic Church and other Christian groups is the Church service on Christmas Eve or on the morning of Christmas Day. During the forty days leading up to Christmas, the Eastern Orthodox Church practices the Nativity Fast, while the majority of Christian congregations (including the Catholic Church, the Anglican Communion, many Mainline churches, and Baptists) begin observing the liturgical season of Advent four Sundays before Christmas—both are seen as times of spiritual cleansing, recollection and renewal to prepare for the celebration of the birth of Jesus.

The crew of the ship includes teenagers, two of whom oppose each other in their activities. The independent film was originally distributed by Warner Brothers. The film was later featured in episodes of both Mystery Science Theater 3000 and the nationally syndicated B-movie TV show Off Beat Cinema.
Plot
An alien spacecraft comes to Earth, while searching the galaxy for a planet suitable to raise "gargons," a lobster-like (but air-breathing) creature which is a delicacy on their homeworld. Thor (Bryan Grant), the lead alien, shows his contempt for Earth's creatures by vaporizing a dog named Sparky. Crewmember Derek (David Love), after discovering an inscription on Sparky's dog tag, fears that the gargon might destroy Earth's local inhabitants, making the other spacemen scoff. Being members of the "supreme race", they disdain "foreign beings," no matter how intelligent and pride themselves that families and friendships are forbidden on their world. Derek turns out to be a member of an underground which commemorates more humane periods of his world's history.
Their one gargon seems to be sick in Earth's atmosphere. While his crewmates are distracted, Derek flees. Eventually, the gargon seems to revive. When the Captain reports Derek's actions, he is connected to the Leader (Gene Sterling) himself. It turns out that Derek is the Leader's son, though Derek is unaware of this. Thor is sent to hunt Derek down, with orders to kill to protect the mission. They return to their base, leaving the gargon behind.
Meanwhile, Derek finds the home address found on the dog tag. He meets Betty Morgan (Dawn Anderson) and her Grandpa Joe (Harvey B. Dunn). They have a room to rent, and Derek inadvertently becomes a boarder. When Betty's boyfriend, reporter Joe Rogers (Tom Graeff), can't make their afternoon plans, Derek tags along with Betty. He shows the tag to Betty, who recognizes it immediately. Derek takes her to the place where the ship landed, and shows her Sparky's remains. She doesn't believe him, so he describes Thor's weapon that that vaporizes flesh. Betty takes this surprisingly well and vows to help Derek stop the bad guys.
For the rest of the day Betty and Derek have several run-ins with Thor and Joe follows up on stories of skeletons popping up all over town, including in Alice's swimming pool. Eventually Thor is wounded and he kidnaps Betty and Derek for medical attention, he reveals Derek's true parentage. Two car chases and a gunfight ensue and Thor is finally captured by authorities after plummeting off a cliff in a stolen car.
But there are bigger problems: the gargon has grown immensely, killing a policeman investigating the landing site and attacking numerous people. Derek and Betty go to the car wreck to look for Thor's gun. They share a kiss, and Derek vows to stay on Earth. When the gargon ruins their romantic moment, Derek finds the gun just in time for them to escape. Unfortunately the gun is damaged and the monster is heading toward the town. They head out once again to confront it, using power lines to fuel the disintegrator. They kill the gargon, but it's too late as enemy ships suddenly appear overhead.
The whole gang, including Joe and Grandpa, hurries out to the landing site. Derek reunites with his father and makes the ultimate sacrifice by leading the fleet directly into the hillside, causing a massive explosion. Derek does not survive, but is remembered for declairing, "I shall make the Earth my home. And I shall never, never leave it."

The Harlem Renaissance was a movement that spanned the 1920s. The Harlem Renaissance was the name given to the cultural, social, and artistic explosion that took place in Harlem. During the time, it was known as the "New Negro Movement", named after the 1925 anthology by Alain Locke. The Movement also included the new African-American cultural expressions across the urban areas in the Northeast and Midwest United States affected by the Great Migration (African American),[1] of which Harlem was the largest. The Harlem Renaissance was considered to be a rebirth of African American arts.[2] Though it was centered in the Harlem neighborhood of the borough of Manhattan in New York City, in addition, many francophone black writers from African and Caribbean colonies who lived in Paris were also influenced by the Harlem Renaissance.[3][4][5][6]
The Harlem Renaissance is generally considered to have spanned from about 1918 until the mid-1930s.[7] Many of its ideas lived on much longer. The zenith of this "flowering of Negro literature", as James Weldon Johnson preferred to call the Harlem Renaissance, took place between 1924 (when Opportunity: A Journal of Negro Life hosted a party for black writers where many white publishers were in attendance) and 1929 (the year of the stock market crash and the beginning of the Great Depression).

John Edward Thaw CBE (3rd January 1942 - 21st February 2002) was an English actor, who appeared in a range of television, stage and cinema roles, his most popular being police and legal dramas such as Redcap, The Sweeney, Inspector Morse and Kavanagh QC. A heavy drinker, and smoker for 40 years, Thaw was diagnosed with cancer of the oesophagus in June 2001. He underwent chemotherapy in hope of overcoming the illness, but had a setback in early January 2002. He died on Thursday, 21st February 2002, seven weeks after his 60th birthday, the day after he signed a new contract with ITV, and the day before his wife's birthday. At the time of his death he was living at his country place, near the villages of Luckington and Sherston in Wiltshire, and was cremated at Westerleigh Crematorium in Sout... -
