takeoff, flight, landing and inflight experience from
Barcelona BCN to
Oporto OPO airport on a RYANAIR
Boeing 737-800 reg EI-DLC.
The video includes the Aerobus to
BCN airport, the old BCN T2, now converted in a
LCC terminal exclusively, the entire flight and a nice sightseeing of Oporto.
Despite taking the "no frills" concept to the ultimate level, Ryanair is not as bad as many people will say. It is efficient and, if you comply with their rules (i.e. respecting the luggage limitations, bringing a printed boarding pass, etc), there might be no surprises.
Maybe I haven't flown enough with them, but after 3 flights, I haven't had a single issue. They guarantee cheap fares to fly from
A to B.
For all the rest you will have to pay an additional fee. I traveled in seat 8F and to be seated here I had to pay an additional fee of € 5.99. I could have paid less to get a seat behind the wing or nothing and would have been assigned a random seat. The seat pitch is reasonable and similar to any other airline and, by now, you don't have to pay to use their toilets.
Ryanair and EasyJet have lead the LCC revolution in
Europe, forcing all the major carriers to either adopt leaner models, abandon routes or even disappear. The good thing is that now it's possible to travel almost anywhere with low fares. The bad
point is that all major airlines have reduced the quality of their offering in coach, among other things.
Porto sightseeing 16:06
The second part of the video include a bit of my visit to Porto and Amarante. Porto is a beautiful city to visit, full of history and with one of the finest food and drinks that you can find. Among other things you shouldn't miss alheiras (sort of sausage), queijo da serra (type of cheese), bacalhau prepared in any possible way (cod fish), francesinha (I tried one of the most typical ones at
Cafe Santiago F at Rua de
Passos Manuel, 198), vinho verde and of course, vinho do Porto (Oporto wine).
You can even take a ship from Vilanova de
Gaia that will take you up the
Douro River visiting the wine cellars and wine farms. You need to book in advance. The whole trip takes more than one day, so you have to sleep in the ship.
Where to stay in Porto 21:28
The last part of the video shows a beautiful place where you can rent an apartment in an excellent location in Porto's old town. This apartment has a garden and a magnificent view of the Douro River and Vilanova de Gaia.
The apartment is located at 62 Bandeirinha street.
