Ballyvourney (Irish: Baile Bhúirne, meaning "Town of the Beloved", also spelled Baile Mhúirne, Irish pronunciation: [ˈbˠalʲə ˈvʷuːrˠnʲə] ), is a Gaeltacht village in south-west County Cork, Ireland. It is a civil parish in the barony of Muskerry West and is also an ecclesiastical parish in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Cloyne
The village stretches along the N22 road which links Cork city (to the south east) with Killarney (to the north west). The nearest large town is Macroom while the nearest international airport is Cork Airport. There is a proposal to construct 22 km of dual carriageway from Coolcour at the eastern side of Macroom, bypassing Macroom to the north and finishing west of Ballyvourney.
The village lies on the River Sullane:

The building was opened by the state in 1940 as a prep school for teacher training. In 1960 it was bought over by brothers of the de la salle order and was run as a secondary level boarding school up until 1989. The brothers sold it to private investors in 1989 and the building has lain idle ever since. In 1999, it was acquired by the department for developing Irish language and around €600,000 has been spent developing plans to convert the site into an education centre of some sort. Since the bottom fell out of the economy, it is unlikely that redevelopment will get underway any time soon. Most folks will be familiar with the college as the location for St Jude's reformatory school in the 2003 film 'song for a raggy boy'. Filming mostly took place on the ground floor which had to be redec...

Hi there. I’m Mindie Burgoyne and my husband Dan and I would like to invite you to join our tour of Ireland in May of 2015. We’re calling the tour “Places of Resurrection.” What are Places of Resurrection? This phrase in mentioned in the story of St. Gobnait, a 6th century woman who took refuge in Inis Oirr in the Aran Islands. An angel appeared to Gobnait and told her to go on a journey … to travel until she found nine white deer grazing … it is there that she would find her place of resurrection. St. Gobnait left Inis Oirr and traveled through Kerry and into Cork. She finally saw those deer in place now named Ballyvourney. and she spent the rest of her life there, and she is still revered and remembered. A place of resurrection is a place of belonging… a place where one’s spiri...
