I know a lot have asked for this, so here is the first of six parts of WFAN coverage of the fateful, tragic day of September 11, 2001 starting with the breaking news during the Don Imus morning program. Imus would stay on the air for the next several hours before handing it off to Mike Francesa (Chris Russo was presumably off that week). WFAN benefited from having the eyewitness observations of Warner Wolf, who lived several blocks from the WTC and could report on what he was seeing. Their chief drawback was that they still had to run commercials at various points, the only station I know of that was still doing so that day. There are occasional dips into TV audio coverage from NBC, MSNBC (which as you will hear, Imus frequently rips) and WCBS. Additional parts of coverage will follow over time.

John Donald "Don" Imus, Jr. (born July 23, 1940) is an American radio host, humorist, philanthropist and writer. His nationally syndicated talk show, Imus in the Morning, is broadcast throughout the United States by Citadel Media and relayed on television by the Fox Business Network.
Imus was born in Riverside, California, the son of Frances E. (née Moore) and John Donald Imus, Sr., older brother of Fred Imus. He was raised on a sprawling cattle ranch called The Willows near Kingman, Arizona. He served in the Marine Corps as a bugler from 1957 to 1960.
Imus battled alcoholism during his early career in New York, but in 1987 finally pursued effective treatment. (As of 2008, he has remained sober for 20 years). In 1988, with his cocaine and alcohol addictions now legendary in show business, Imus reshaped his show from strictly comedy into a forum for political issues, charitable causes and news-based parodies.
In 1979, he divorced his first wife, Harriet. He married his second wife, Deirdre Coleman on December 17, 1994. He has two stepdaughters that he adopted from his first marriage, two daughters from that marriage, and one son, Frederick Wyatt (nicknamed Wyatt, born July 3, 1998), from his current marriage. Both Don and Deirdre Imus are vegetarians.[citation needed]

Trump is the son of Fred Trump, a wealthy New York City real-estate developer. He worked for his father's firm, Elizabeth Trump & Son, while attending the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and in 1968 officially joined the company. He was given control of the company in 1971 and renamed it The Trump Organization.
In 2010, Trump expressed an interest in becoming a candidate for President of the United States in the 2012 election. In May 2011, he announced he would not be a candidate, but a few weeks later he said he had not completely ruled out the possibility. In December 2011, Trump was suggested as a possible Vice Presidential selection by Michele Bachmann. Bachmann has since suspended her presidential campaign.

On the April 4 edition of MSNBC's Imus in the Morning, host Don Imus referred to the Rutgers University women's basketball team, which is comprised of eight African-American and two white players, as "nappy-headed hos" immediately after the show's executive producer, Bernard McGuirk, called the team "hard-core hos." Later, former Imus sports announcer Sid Rosenberg, who was filling in for sportscaster Chris Carlin, said: "The more I look at Rutgers, they look exactly like the [National Basketball Association's] Toronto Raptors." McGuirk referred to the NCAA women's basketball championship game between Rutgers and Tennessee as a "Spike Lee thing," adding, "The Jigaboos vs. The Wannabees -- that movie that he had." Later, former Imus sports announcer Sid Rosenberg, who was filling in for sportscaster Chris Carlin, said: "The more I look at Rutgers, they look exactly like the [National Basketball Association's] Toronto Raptors." McGuirk referred to the NCAA women's basketball championship game between Rutgers and Tennessee as a "Spike Lee thing," adding, "The Jigaboos vs. The Wannabees -- that movie that he had."
Imus initially was given a two-week suspension for calling the Rutgers women's basketball team "nappy-headed hos" on the air last week, but outrage continued to grow and advertisers bolted from his CBS radio show and its MSNBC simulcast.
"There has been much discussion of the effect language like this has on our young people, particularly young women of color trying to make their way in this society," CBS President and Chief Executive Officer Leslie Moonves said in announcing the decision. On the "Imus in the Morning" show, Don Imus's wife Deirdre randomly goes off on Howard Stern which sends Wigward into a frenzy to start off his Monday July 28th, 2014 show. Then Wrap Up Show caller "Donald in Rhode Island" (17:24) follows it up comparing Deirdre to Howard's wife Beth & his mysteriously dumped. Hearken back to April 2010 & a feisty Beantown broad lawyer "C at in Boston" calls Howard and Beth out on the Wrap Up Show (18:44) for same thing which clearly rattles the staff. She then makes a follow up call (32:47) to Wigward himself two days later after Robin brings attention to it. Wigward bails on it like flim-flam fairy he is. -

Wigward vs Imus 2004 saga
I don't know how in the hell I dug (and barely remember) & compiled this one up?? This is a very lost and fascinating saga of a pussy-whipped and angry Howard defending his then girlfriend Beths' honor after Imus talks shit about her at the gym via Jayson Williams. Howard's informants rile up him and he decides to call Imus on the air and during his show. I managed to get the audio via Howard's show. And then I remember quickly flipping on Imus's dogshit MSNBC show and managed to record most of that on VHS and combined the two in sort of a smallish saga. I know the Imus video is wonky frame wise but spare me the weenie criticism, it's ALL very coherent and gets the job done. -

Levon Helm From Imus On MSNBC Monday September 19, 2005
I didn't watch Imus on MSNBC all the time. When I did watch it was usually to see his comedians do impersonations. The show would unfortunately make me cringe sometimes because Imus would tip over the line. There were times where you would smile in embarrassment because you knew that he had gone too far but hope he wouldn't get into trouble. Right before Imus would go to a commercial break I would notice that he would often use The Band's music as bumper music. You would hear Up on Cripple Creek, Rag Mama Rag, and particularly The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down. There was one song that he would play that was performed live by Levon called, Goodnight Irene that was just incredible! I had also notice that he would occasionally have musical guest on his show. The show would unfortunately make me cringe sometimes because Imus would tip over the line. There were times where you would smile in embarrassment because you knew that he had gone too far but hope he wouldn't get into trouble. Right before Imus would go to a commercial break I would notice that he would often use The Band's music as bumper music. You would hear Up on Cripple Creek, Rag Mama Rag, and particularly The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down. There was one song that he would play that was performed live by Levon called, Goodnight Irene that was just incredible! I had also notice that he would occasionally have musical guest on his show. Most of the bands or artists during this time I was not familiar with. However, I would later discover these seem artists eventually through listening to more country, blues, soul and old time rock n' roll music. Obviously after seeing this stuff I'm telling myself, "Wow, you never know maybe he can have Levon Helm on there someday. That would be awesome!" Than one faithful Monday morning on September 19, 2005 I received a phone call from my brother from his school. He called me because I called him earlier to see if he was at school. When he called me I was in bed and I wasn't going to get up. However, after he called me I decided to get up and watch Imus in the morning. In fact, it might have been more about wanting to see what Amy Robach was wearing than watching what was on Imus on MSNBC. When I turned the television on and flipped the channel to MSNBC I see this old man playing the drums that look like he chewed too much tobacco. He voice was raspy but there was soul and true confidence in it. He was ancient but his soul was just as young and filled with fire than anyone that has ever wielded the power of the drum and god gifted musical ability. He was the real deal no doubt! I heard, "You know my heart it rack with pain, and my best friend scandalous my name. Say I want to know can you feel my pain, and when I die pick me up and stand by me!" "Wow, it's the man! It's actually him! It's Levon Helm!" I said out loud! I also notice a woman that I thought resembled Chelsea Clinton. That's right Levon Helm is from Arkansas! That's must be his daughter Amy! After doing my research on Levon Helm I remember that she was in a band with her dad called The Barn Burners. Not to sell them short I was to learn the greatness of Jimmy Vivino and the importance of musical instrument genius and producer of Levon Helm's Grammy award winning albums Dirt Farmer, Electric Dirt, and Ramble at the Ryman Larry Campbell. Also the Blues Harmonica great Little Sammy Davis who I actually thought may have had been related to Sammy Davis Jr.! Also during this performance I actually thought that the bumper song entitled, Give Back the key To My Heart was Rick Danko! I was more hoping that it was Rick because I had heard that just before Rick died his voice was just as awesome if not more awesome than it had been in the past and that he been making incredible music. After doing research it turned out not to be Rick Danko but an alternative country band called Uncle Tupelo. Levon seemed to dig the groove and I wonder to this day if he reached out to the members of this band that later formed the group Wilco. Wilco had performed with Levon during numerous concerts in the past year. Unfortunately I had to mute that part of the video. When I originally uploaded this video to YouTube it was block in the United States because of WMG. From 16:29 to 17:45 the song could be heard before I had to mute it. Just watching Levon Helm with that beautiful kindle spark in his eye! Levon's awesome smile was so heartwarming! I would like to dedicate this video to the life and legacy of Levon Helm and to all that knew him and loved him. I would also love to dedicate this video to the memory of Don Imus's brother Fred Imus who died last year. Fred was a huge fan of the song Give back the key To My Heart! After doing research it turned out not to be Rick Danko but an alternative country band called Uncle Tupelo. Levon seemed to dig the groove and I wonder to this day if he reached out to the members of this band that later formed the group Wilco. Wilco had performed with Levon during numerous concerts in the past year. Unfortunately I had to mute that part of the video. When I originally uploaded this video to YouTube it was block in the United States because of WMG. From 16:29 to 17:45 the song could be heard before I had to mute it. Just watching Levon Helm with that beautiful kindle spark in his eye! Levon's awesome smile was so heartwarming! I would like to dedicate this video to the life and legacy of Levon Helm and to all that knew him and loved him. I would also love to dedicate this video to the memory of Don Imus's brother Fred Imus who died last year. Fred was a huge fan of the song Give back the key To My Heart!
