Bagmati River
The Bagmati River (Nepal Bhasa:बागमती खुसी, Nepali: बागमती नदी) is a river of Nepal. It flows through the Kathmandu valley and is the river separating Kathmandu from Lalitpur. It is considered a holy river both by Hindus and Buddhists. A number of Hindu temples are located on the banks of this river.
The importance of Bagmati also lies in the fact that Hindus are cremated on the banks of this holy river, and Kirants are buried in the hills by its side. According to the Nepalese Hindu tradition, the dead body must be dipped three times into the Bagmati river before cremation. The chief mourner (usually the first son) who lights the funeral pyre must take a holy river-water bath immediately after cremation. Many relatives who join the funeral procession also take a bath in the Bagmati River or sprinkle the holy water on their bodies at the end of cremation. The Bagmati River is considered to purify the people spiritually.
The Bagmati originates where three headwater streams converge at Bāghdwār (Nepali: बाघ bāgh = Tiger; द्वार dwār = gate) above the southern edge of the Shivapuri Hills about 15 km northeast of Kathmandu. Here the Bagmati is wide and swift with a high load of suspended solids, giving the river a grey appearance. The river flows southwest about ten kilometres through terraced rice fields in Kathmandu Valley. Resistant rock strata interrupt the flow in places, including at Pashupatinath Temple. Beyond the temple, the river flows south until joined by the larger west-flowing Monahara River, then turns west itself. After entering Kathmandu's urban area more tributaries enter: relatively unpolluted Dhobī Kholā and sewage-laden Tukucha Khola.

Darbhanga district
Darbhanga district (Hindi: दरभंगा जिला) is one of the thirty-eight districts of Bihar state in eastern India, and Darbhanga town is the administrative headquarters of this district. Darbhanga district occupies an area of 2,279 square kilometres (880 sq mi), comparatively equivalent to Indonesia's Yapen Island. The district has a vast alluvial plain devoid of any hills. There is a gentle slope from north to south with a depression on the centre. The District can be divided into four natural divisions. The eastern part consists of Ghanshyampur, Biraul and Kusheshwarsthan blocks. This part contains fresh silt deposited by the Kosi River. This region was under the influence of Kosi floods till the construction of Kosi embankment during the Second Five Year Plan. It contains large tracts of sandy land covered with wild marshes. The second part comprises the regions lying south of the Burhi Gandak River and is the most fertile area in the district. It is at a higher level than the other parts of the district and contains very few marshlands. This part is well suited to the rabi crops. The third natural region is the doab between the rivers, Burhi Gandak and Baghmati and consists of low-lying areas dotted over by marshes. This region gets flooded almost every year. The fourth division consists the Sadar sub-division of the district. This region is watered by numerous streams and contains some uplands.

Gaya district
Gaya is one of the thirty-eight districts of Bihar state, India. It was officially established on 3rd October 1865. The district is having a common boundary with Jharkhand state in the south. Gaya city is its largest city and the district headquarters.
Gaya finds mention in the great epics, Ramayana and Mahabharata. Rama along with Sita and Lakshmana visited Gaya for offering PIND-DAAN to their father Dasharath. In Mahabharata, the place has been identified as Gayapuri. About the origin of the name ‘Gaya' as referred to in Vayu Purana is that Gaya was the name of a demon (Asura) whose body was pious after he performed rigid penance and secured blessings from Vishnu. It was said that the Gayasura's body would continue to be known as Gaya Kshetra.
Gaya has experienced the rise and fall of many dynasties in the Magadh Region. From the 6th century BC to the 18th century AD, about 2300–2400 years, Gaya has been occupying an important place in the cultural history of the region. It opened up with the Sisunaga dynasty founded by Sisunaga, who exercised power over Patna and Gaya around 600 BC. Bimbisara, fifth in line, who lived and ruled around 519 BC, had projected Gaya to the outer world. Having attained an important place in the history of civilisation, the area experienced the bliss of Gautam Buddha and Bhagwan Mahavir during the reign of Bimbisara. After a short spell of Nanda dynasty, Gaya and the entire Magadha region came under the Mauryan rule with Ashoka (272 BC – 232 BC) embracing Buddhism. He visited Gaya and built the first temple at Bodh Gaya to commemorate Prince Gautama's attainment of supreme enlightenment.

Jehanabad district

Kesaria
Kesariya is a town in Bihar, India in the district of East Champaran, near Rampur Khajuria (NH28). It is the site of a stupa built by the King Ashoka. It is one of, if not the largest stupa in India. The Buddha once stayed in Kesariya (then called "Kesaputta"). On that occasion, he preached the Kesaputtiya Suttas (a group of sutras preached to the Kalamas of Kesaputta - A.i.188), which include the Kalama Sutta. The inhabitants of Kesariya were the Kosalans and the Kalamas.
Kesaria claims the tallest and the largest Buddhist Stupa in the world. The stupa was discovered in 1998 during an excavation by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). The stupa dates to between 200 AD and 750 AD and may have been associated with the 4th century ruler, Raja Chakravarti.
At 104 feet, Kesaria Stupa is one foot taller than the Borobodur Stupa in Java. It is also taller than the second largest stupa at Ghorakatora in the Nalanda district. The National Informatics Centre of East Champaran (Motihari) suggests the Kesaria Stupa was 123 feet tall before the 1934 earthquake in Bihar. According to a report by the A.S.I., the Kesaria Stupa was originally 150 feet in height. The height of Sanchi Stupa a world heritage site is 77.50 feet.[citation needed]

Lauria NandanGarh
Lauria Nandangarh (Hindi: लौरिया नंदनगढ) is a village about 14 km from Shikarpur and 28 km from Bettiah in West Champaran district of Bihar state in northern India. Here there are interesting ruins of a huge stupa. It is a 26 metre high ancient brick sepulchral mound thought to be the stupa where the ashes of Lord Buddha were enshrined.
Less than half a kilometer from the village, stands the famous pillar of Ashoka. It is a single block of polished sandstone over 32 feet (10 m) high. The top is bell shaped with a circular abacus ornamented with Brahmi geese supporting the statue of a lion.
The pillar is inscribed with the edict of Ashoka in clear and beautifully cut characters. The lion has been chipped in the month and the column bears the mark of time just below the top which has itself been slightly dislodged.

The Central Electricity Authority's site selection committee, which recently visited the site, is expected to submit its report within a month[when?]. Purnia division
Purnia division is an administrative geographical unit of Bihar state of India. Purnia is the administrative headquarters of the division. The division consists of Purnia district, Katihar district, Araria district, and Kishanganj district in 2005.
The earliest inhabitants of the district are supposed to have been Anas to the west and Pundras to the east. The former are generally grouped with the Bengal tribes in the epics and formed the easternmost tribes known to the Aryans during the time of the Atharva-samhita. The latter are closed among the most degraded classes of men in the Aitarya-brahmana. But it is also stated that they were descendants of the sage Vishwamitra that would seem to imply that they had Aryan blood, though degraded[citation needed]. This opinion survived in the epic period, for in the Mahabharata and the Harivansa, the Pundras and the Angas are said to be descendents of the blind sage Dhritarashtra who was born to the queen of the demon Bali and according to the Manu-Samhita they sank gradually to the condition of Sudras because they neglected the performance of sacred rites and did not consult Brahmanas.

In 2006 the Ministry of Panchayati Raj named Saran one of the country's 250 most backward districts (out of a total of 640). It is one of the 36 districts in Bihar currently receiving funds from the Backward Regions Grant Fund Programme (BRGF).
According to the 2011 census Saran district has a population of 3,943,098 , roughly equal to the nation of Liberia or the US state of Oregon. This gives it a ranking of 60th in India (out of a total of 640). The district has a population density of 1,493 inhabitants per square kilometre (3,870 /sq mi) . Its population growth rate over the decade 2001-2011 was 21.37 %. Saran has a sex ratio of 949 females for every 1000 males, and a literacy rate of 68.57 %.

Land is suitable for growing crops.There is no water scarcity as ground water is present.
Sitamarhi has a monsoon type of climate. Like most parts of northern India it receives maximum rainfall by southwestern monsoon.
Sitamarhi is well connected by road network from the adjoining districts.Major roads are NH 77 & NH 104. However construction work on Nh 77 is going on for making it double lane. Sitamarhi is situated on "Darbhanga Narkatiyaganj" railway line with sitamarhi being the biggest railway station of district.Another broad gauge line between Muzaffarpur & Sitamarhi is under construction. Sitamarhi has direct train service for Varanasi,Kanpur & New Delhi.

In 1875, a Sitamarhi subdistrict was created within the Muzaffarpur district. Sitmarhi detached from Muzaffarpur and became a separate district as of December 11, 1972. It is situated in the northern part of Bihar. The district headquarters are located in Dumra, five kilometers south of Sitamarhi.[clarification needed]
Sitamarhi district became a fully-fledged district when it was split from Muzaffarpur district in 1972. 1994 saw the split of Sheohar district from Sitamarhi.
The district is currently a part of the Red Corridor.
Sitamarhi district occupies an area of 2,294 square kilometres (886 sq mi), comparatively equivalent to Australia's Groote Eylandt.

Assuming leadership of the Indian National Congress in 1921, Gandhi led nationwide campaigns for easing poverty, expanding women's rights, building religious and ethnic amity, ending untouchability, increasing economic self-reliance, and above all for achieving Swaraj—the independence of India from British domination.
