Labrador Nature Reserve
Coordinates: 1°16′2″N 103°48′6″E / 1.26722°N 103.80167°E / 1.26722; 103.80167
Labrador Nature Reserve (Chinese: 拉柏多自然保护区), also locally known as Labrador Park (拉柏多公园), is located in the southern part of the main island of Singapore. It contains the only rocky sea-cliff on the mainland that is accessible to the public. Since 2002, 10 hectares of coastal secondary vegetation and its rocky shore have been gazetted as a nature reserve.
History
Labrador Nature Reserve contains many historical relics from World War II and earlier, left behind by the British. That is because it has a long history, dating back to the 19th century. It also played a significant role in the history of Singapore.
The entire nature reserve, together with the current park, used to be called Pasir Panjang Beach, or Long Beach. The area used to be a long strip of coastal land at high tide, and a rocky beach at low tide, before land reclamation took place, formed the seawalls and grassy park seen today.

A nature reserve (natural reserve, bioreserve, (natural/nature) preserve or (national/nature) conserve) is a protected area of importance for wildlife, flora, fauna or features of geological or other special interest, which is reserved and managed for conservation and to provide special opportunities for study or research. Nature reserves may be designated by government institutions in some countries, or by private landowners, such as charities and research institutions, regardless of nationality. Nature reserves fall into different IUCN categories depending on the level of protection afforded by local laws.
History
Cultural practices that roughly equate to the establishment and maintenance of reserved areas for animals date back to antiquity, with King Devanampiya Tissa of Sri Lanka establishing one of the world's earliest wildlife sanctuaries in the 3rd century BC. Early reservations often had a religious underpinning, such as the 'evil forest' areas of West Africa which were forbidden to humans, who were threatened with spiritual attack if they went there. Sacred areas taboo from human entry to fishing and hunting are known by many ancient cultures worldwide.

Naturschutzgebiet
A Naturschutzgebiet ("nature reserve") is a category of protected area within German Federal Conservation Law (the Bundesnaturschutzgesetz or BNatSchG).
Points of law
The use of the term Naturschutzgebiet or terms that could be confused with it, for anything other than the legally protected areas is forbidden under this law.
Signage
Because legal restrictions are placed on activity within German nature reserves they have to be signed on the ground. Only by this means can e.g. walkers know that they are entering a nature reserve and may not e.g. leave the tracks and paths. For historical reasons there is no standard sign used across Germany.
Nature reserves in the "old states" of the Federal Republic of Germany are marked by green signs with the silhouette of a sea eagle. In the new federal states of the former East Germany they are marked with a pentagonal yellow sign bearing an image of a long-eared owl. The reunification of Germany the 36th Environmental Minister's Conference in 1991 recommended the use of the owl symbol in future in the whole of Germany to designate nature reserves. This recommendation was not universally adopted by the states, in whom the jurisdiction for conservation policy was vested. For that reason there are de facto three different signs being used alongside one another in Germany today.

Nature reserve (Australia)
Nature reserve (Australia) is the title of a type of protected area used in the Australian jurisdictions of the Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, Tasmania and Western Australia. The term “nature reserve” is defined by state and territory statutes rather than by a single national statute. As of 2014, 1767 out of a total of 10339 protected areas listed within the Australian National Reserve System were “nature reserves.”
Extent of use on Australia
The term “nature reserves” is only used in the Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, Tasmania and Western Australia.
As of 2014, 1767 protected areas whose titles include the words “nature reserve” have been listed on the National Reserve System with a total area of 113,382.42 hectares (280,174.1 acres) or 1.47% of the Australian territorial area. This compares with the National Reserve System’s total inventory of 10339 protected areas that have a total area of 1,375,015.51 square kilometres (530,896.46 sq mi) or 17.88% of the Australian territorial area.

Many Americans trace the modern conservation movement back to President Theodore Roosevelt, known for his love of the outdoors and for creating the U.S. Forest Service and the national parks system.
But what if government isn’t the only, or the best, entity to protect America’s natural wonders?
The American Prairie Reserve is a nonprofit group that wants to establish the largest nature reserve in the lower 48 states and it aims to do so with private funding. So far, American Prairie Reserve owns or leases more than 300,000 acres with a goal of stitching together 3.5 million acres of private and federal land across to create a reserve 1.5 times the size of Yellowstone National Park. And they believe that their unique approach will reduce the tension with local ranchers and farmers that national parks often experience.
"Currently, wildlife has no economic value to ranchers and, as such, the ranchers don't want them around," says Pete Geddes, managing director of American Prairie Reserve.
But American Prairie Reserve aims to fix that problem with its Wild Sky Beef program. Wild Sky is a brand associated with a for-profit company, and the proceeds from its profits go towards funding incentives for ranchers to engage in wildlife-friendly practices such as creating gaps in their fences for herd animals to pass through, planting native grasses, and allowing prairie dogs to establish colonies on their property. The more benchmarks the ranchers meet, the bigger the payout.
"As we're successful and we gain more attention over time, you'll see other groups trying to put this together at a much larger scale," says Geddes.

Naturschutzgebiet Rotes Moor. Ein Film für Hörende und Nichthörende
Das Naturschutzgebiet Rotes Moor ist eines der bedeutendsten Naturschutzgebiete in Hessen und im Biosphärenreservat Rhön. Das Hochmoor mit seinem speziellen Lebensraum ist ein Besuchermagnet. Das Besucherzentrum „Haus am Roten Moor“ und der Bohlenpfad durch das Moor sind weitgehend barrierefrei hergerichtet. Neu ist nun der Kurzfilm zum Schutzgebiet, der sich speziell an gehörlose Menschen richtet, die auf Gebärdensprache angewiesen sind. Familie Uhl führt unkonventionell mittels Gebärdensprache in die Besonderheiten des Moores und die landschaftliche Schönheit ein. Natürlich ist der Film auch vertont, mit Musik und einem Textband versehen, so dass er für nahezu alle Menschen einen Zugang zum Lebensraum Hochmoor eröffnet. Das Naturschutzgebiet Rotes Moor ist eines der bedeutendsten Naturschutzgebiete in Hessen und im Biosphärenreservat Rhön. Das Hochmoor mit seinem speziellen Lebensraum ist ein Besuchermagnet. Das Besucherzentrum „Haus am Roten Moor“ und der Bohlenpfad durch das Moor sind weitgehend barrierefrei hergerichtet. Neu ist nun der Kurzfilm zum Schutzgebiet, der sich speziell an gehörlose Menschen richtet, die auf Gebärdensprache angewiesen sind. Familie Uhl führt unkonventionell mittels Gebärdensprache in die Besonderheiten des Moores und die landschaftliche Schönheit ein. Natürlich ist der Film auch vertont, mit Musik und einem Textband versehen, so dass er für nahezu alle Menschen einen Zugang zum Lebensraum Hochmoor eröffnet.
Ermöglicht wurde der Film über eine Förderung durch die Aktion Mensch. Realisiert wurde das Projekt in Zusammenarbeit von EUROPARC Deutschland, Caritas Fulda und dem Biosphärenreservat Rhön. Ein besonderer Dank gilt dem Filmer Julian Witteborn und dem Regisseur Arnulf Müller, die mit sehr viel Einfühlungsvermögen das ambitionierte und in dieser Form einmalige Projekt verwirklicht haben.

Today I travel to one of the RSPB's most well known and wildlife rich reserves, RSPB Minsmere. Come along as I take a look at some of the birds and other animals that have set up home there, and share a few facts about them as I go.

NNRs showcase the best of conserved habitats and support engagement with nature for education and wellbeing. Natural England have designated over 200 of these gold-standard havens for wildlife across the country, joining up nature reserves in a growing Nature Recovery Network where wildlife can thrive and spread.
It's great to see these wildlife havens recognised for their value to wildlife including marsh fritillary butterflies, bee orchids and bats, as well as their potential for research, education and connecting with nature. Many Americans trace the modern conservation movement back to President Theodore Roosevelt, known for his love of the outdoors and for creating the U.S. Forest Service and the national parks system.
But what if government isn’t the only, or the best, entity to protect America’s natural wonders?
The American Prairie Reserve is a nonprofit group that wants to establish the largest nature reserve in the lower 48 states and it aims to do so with private funding. So far, American Prairie Reserve owns or leases more than 300,000 acres with a goal of stitching together 3.5 million acres of private and federal land across to create a reserve 1.5 times the size of Yellowstone National Park. And they believe that their unique approach will reduce the tension with local ranchers and farmers that national parks often experience.
"Currently, wildlife has no economic value to ranchers and, as such, the ranchers don't want them around," says Pete Geddes, managing director of American Prairie Reserve.
But American Prairie Reserve aims to fix that problem with its Wild Sky Beef program. Wild Sky is a brand associated with a for-profit company, and the proceeds from its profits go towards funding incentives for ranchers to engage in wildlife-friendly practices such as creating gaps in their fences for herd animals to pass through, planting native grasses, and allowing prairie dogs to establish colonies on their property. The more benchmarks the ranchers meet, the bigger the payout.
"As we're successful and we gain more attention over time, you'll see other groups trying to put this together at a much larger scale," says Geddes.

Labrador Nature Reserve (Chinese: 拉柏多自然保护区), also locally known as Labrador Park (拉柏多公园), is located in the southern part of the main island of Singapore. It contains the only rocky sea-cliff on the mainland that is accessible to the public. Since 2002, 10 hectares of coastal secondary vegetation and its rocky shore have been gazetted as a nature reserve.
History
Labrador Nature Reserve contains many historical relics from World War II and earlier, left behind by the British. That is because it has a long history, dating back to the 19th century. It also played a significant role in the history of Singapore.
The entire nature reserve, together with the current park, used to be called Pasir Panjang Beach, or Long Beach. The area used to be a long strip of coastal land at high tide, and a rocky beach at low tide, before land reclamation took place, formed the seawalls and grassy park seen today.

Meine Leidenschaft für das Abenteuer in der Natur wurde mir bereits in die Wiege gelegt. Als Kleinkind konnte ich schon die Gipfelluft beim Wandern in der Kraxe meines Opas schnuppern. Seit einigen Jahren betreibe ich sehr aktiv Outdoor, Wandern und im Wald übernachten. Es gibt nichts schöneres, als die Zeit draussen in der Natur zu verbringen, ein Übernachtungs-Lager zu bauen, in der Waldküche zu kochen und nach einem Tag im Wald die Nacht draussen unter einem Tarp zu verbringen. Egal, ob mit Solo-Kanadier oder meinem schwarzen Amarok, ich versuche viele Wege, um noch tiefer in die Wildnis vorstossen zu können. Mit meinem Outdoor-Kanal möchte ich Dich an meinen Abenteuern in der Natur teilhaben lassen.

Nationalpark: Großes Gebiet in dem man meistens nix darf. Ausnahmen gibts manchmal als Trekkingcamps oder besondere Hütten...
FFH, Natura 2000: Meist egal, oder mit Naturschutzgebieten gekoppelt.

Das Naturschutzgebiet Rotes Moor ist eines der bedeutendsten Naturschutzgebiete in Hessen und im Biosphärenreservat Rhön. Das Hochmoor mit seinem speziellen Lebensraum ist ein Besuchermagnet. Das Besucherzentrum „Haus am Roten Moor“ und der Bohlenpfad durch das Moor sind weitgehend barrierefrei hergerichtet. Neu ist nun der Kurzfilm zum Schutzgebiet, der sich speziell an gehörlose Menschen richtet, die auf Gebärdensprache angewiesen sind. Familie Uhl führt unkonventionell mittels Gebärdensprache in die Besonderheiten des Moores und die landschaftliche Schönheit ein. Natürlich ist der Film auch vertont, mit Musik und einem Textband versehen, so dass er für nahezu alle Menschen einen Zugang zum Lebensraum Hochmoor eröffnet.
Ermöglicht wurde der Film über eine Förderung durch die Aktion Mensch. Realisiert wurde das Projekt in Zusammenarbeit von EUROPARC Deutschland, Caritas Fulda und dem Biosphärenreservat Rhön. Ein besonderer Dank gilt dem Filmer Julian Witteborn und dem Regisseur Arnulf Müller, die mit sehr viel Einfühlungsvermögen das ambitionierte und in dieser Form einmalige Projekt verwirklicht haben.
