Old Surehand (German: Old Surehand 1. Teil, also known as Flaming Frontier) is a 1965 West German Western film starring Stewart Granger. The film is based on a novel by Karl May.
It made $1,587,777 in Spain.
Boško Buha (Serbian: Бошко Буха; 1926–1943) was a young Yugoslav Partisan and one of the greatest icons of World War II in Yugoslavia.
Boško Buha was born into a Croatian Serb family in the Slavonian village of Gradina, near Virovitica in today's Croatia. In 1941, after the Axis invasion of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia and the establishment of the Independent State of Croatia, his family was targeted by the Ustasha and had to seek shelter in Serbia.
Buha eventually reached territory under Partisan control. There he tried to join the Partisans, but he was rejected due to his young age (at the time he was only 15). After a few attempts, he managed to con his way into the Partisans and took part in active combat. In 1942 he joined the 2nd Proletarian Brigade of YNLA. Soon he developed a talent for sneaking towards enemy bunkers and destroying them with hand grenades (as part of the Bombaši). His talent and bravery almost immediately became stuff of legends and his unit, which had many young men and teenagers, was nicknamed the "Partisan Artillery". In late 1942 Buha was publicly commended by Tito.
Velimir "Bata" Živojinović (Serbian Cyrillic: Велимир "Бата" Живојиновић) (born 5 June 1933) is a Serbian actor and politician.
Živojinović was born in the village of Koraćica under the Kosmaj mountain, near Mladenovac, Serbia (then Kingdom of Yugoslavia). After graduating from acting schools in Niš and Novi Sad, he enrolled at the Drama Academy in Belgrade.
Velimir Živojinović preferred acting in theatre to acting on screen, and made his screen debut in 1955 film Pesma sa Kumbare was the beginning of an incredibly prolific silver screen career. Bata Živojinović's played both heroes and villains and switched between leading and supporting roles. The zenith of his popularity came with WW2-themed action films in the 1970s. One of his best known films from that period was Valter brani Sarajevo (English translation: Walter Defends Sarajevo), which gained major success in China.
He was also known for his close friendship with the Croatian actor Boris Dvornik. In 1991 Živojinović and Dvornik renounced each other in a series of open letters, which was a gesture often seen as symbolic of the breakup of Yugoslavia. In 2004 it was reported that the two men tried to reconcile. In 2006, the two men publicly reconciled on TV via a video link between Split and Belgrade. The actor said that "In the last few years there hasn't been hatred between us", and Dvornik completed the sentence "only a misunderstanding".
Karl (Carl) Friedrich May (/maɪ/ MY; German: [maɪ]; 25 February 1842 – 30 March 1912) was a German writer best known for his adventure novels set in the American Old West. His main protagonists are Winnetou and Old Shatterhand. May set similar books in the Orient and Middle East in which the main protagonists were Kara Ben Nemsi and Hadschi Halef Omar, Latin America and Germany. May also wrote poetry, a play, and composed music; he was a proficient player of several musical instruments. Many of his works were adapted for film, stage, audio dramas and comics. Later in his career, May turned to philosophical and spiritual genres.
May was the fifth child of a poor family of weavers in Ernstthal, Schönburgische Rezessherrschaften (then part of the Kingdom of Saxony). He had thirteen siblings of whom nine died in infancy. During his school years, he received tuition in music and composition. At twelve, May was making money at a skittle alley, where he was exposed to rough language.
