Lakeshore West line

Lakeshore West is one of the seven train lines of the GO Transit system in the Greater Toronto Area, Ontario, Canada. It extends from Union Station in Toronto to Hamilton, with summer weekend and holiday excursion service extending to Niagara Falls.

History

The Lakeshore West line is the oldest of GO's services, opening as part of the then-unified Lakeshore line on GO Transit's first day of operations on May 23, 1967. The first train left at 4:50 am from Oakville bound for Toronto, ten minutes before service began out of Pickering. During the three-year experiment, all day GO Train service ran hourly from Oakville to Pickering with limited rush hour train service to Hamilton. The experiment proved to be extremely popular; GO Transit carried its first million riders during its first four months, and averaged 15,000 per day soon after.

Service began running west from Union, stopping at Mimico, Long Branch, Port Credit, Lorne Park, Clarkson, and Oakville. Rush-hour trains ran to Bronte, Burlington and Hamilton, at the former CN railway station at James Street.

West Line, Missouri

West Line is a village in Cass County, Missouri, United States. The population was 97 at the 2010 census.

History

West Line was platted in 1870. It was named from its position near the west line of the county and state.

Geography

West Line is located at 38°37′55″N 94°35′4″W / 38.63194°N 94.58444°W / 38.63194; -94.58444 (38.631902, -94.584567).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.45 square miles (1.17 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

2010 census

As of the census of 2010, there were 97 people, 37 households, and 28 families residing in the village. The population density was 215.6 inhabitants per square mile (83.2/km²). There were 39 housing units at an average density of 86.7 per square mile (33.5/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 99.0% White and 1.0% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.1% of the population.

There were 37 households of which 43.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.1% were married couples living together, 10.8% had a female householder with no husband present, 10.8% had a male householder with no wife present, and 24.3% were non-families. 18.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.62 and the average family size was 3.00.

CTrain

CTrain is a light rail system in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It has been in operation since May 25, 1981. The system is operated by Calgary Transit, as part of the Calgary municipal government's transportation department.

Operations

The CTrain system has two routes, with a combined route length of 59.9 kilometres (37.2 mi). There is a connection from the light rail track to the Canadian Pacific Railway line via a track switch near Heritage Station.

The longer route (Route 201; 35 km long) serves the southern and northwestern areas of the city. The shorter route (Route 202; 25.7 km long) serves the northeastern and western sections of the city. Most track is at grade, with its own right-of-way. The downtown portion is a shared right-of-way, serving both routes along the 7th Avenue South transit mall at street level. This portion is a zero-fare zone and serves as a downtown people mover. The tracks split at the east and west ends of downtown into lines leading to the south, northeast, west and northwest residential neighbourhoods of Calgary. Six percent of the system is underground, and seven percent is grade-separated (elevated). Trains are powered by overhead electric wires, using pantographs to draw power.
