Captain / Major Navdeep Singh is an author, activist, lawyer and a member of the Indian Territorial Army.

Achievements

Captain (Capt.)/Major (Maj.) Navdeep Singh is the most decorated officer in the history of the Indian Territorial Army, a volunteer force in which gainfully employed and self-employed professionals receive military training for a few days in a year so that in the event of a war or a national emergency they can bear arms for the defence of the nation. Singh is also the youngest person connected with the Territorial Army to have been the recipient of five commendations. Singh has recently been awarded with his sixth, seventh, eight and ninth decoration

He is also featured in the Army's book of outstanding landmarks called 'Indian Army- Milestones'. He has time and again earned commendations from the Indian Army .

Navdeep Singh (cricketer)

Navdeep Singh (born 24 January 1974) is an Indian former first-class cricketer. He is now an umpire and has stood in matches in the 2015–16 Ranji Trophy.

Navdeep Singh Virk

Navdeep Singh Virk is the Commissioner of Police in Gurgaon. He joined the Indian Police Service in the Haryana Police in 1994, and has worked with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in New Delhi from 2001 to 2005. Before becoming the Commissioner of Police in Gurgaon, he has also served as Haryana's Inspector General of Police (IGP), Law & Order. Virk studied criminology in the Institute of Criminology at the University of Cambridge, UK in 2010-11.

Community Policing 2.0 Initiative

Navdeep Singh Virk has launched Gurgaon Police's community policing program called 'Community Policing 2.0 'which aims at involving participation of residents and corporate houses in non core police activities such as traffic management and neighbourhood watch schemes. Virk's idea of community policing 2.0 also asks for contribution of resources. In an interview to Times of India, Virk has been quoted saying, "We will set up a Gurgaon police community fund where corporates can donate money, which could then be used to increase police infrastructure like PCR vans, barricades etc. The funds will be allocated in consultation with the public so they are aware and can contribute to decision-making on their city's needs."

Navdeep Singh (director)

Navdeep Singh (born 1968) is an Indian film director and writer. He is best known for his Bollywood film, NH10.

Early life

He was born in Delhi to a Army officer and travelled across India when he was young. He graduated in Delhi and started an animation studio with a friend, one of the first in India. He studied film-making at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, graduating in 1997. He lived in the US for eight years and two years in London before moving to India in 1999.

Career

After graduating Singh directed commercials and music videos for UGround and Cognito in LA, and Great Guns in London. He then moved to Mumbai in 2001 and has directed a number of award winning commercials.

Bollywood

His debut in Bollywood with feature film Manorama Six Feet Under, a murder mystery, was critically acclaimed. It is regarded as one of the best noir films.

After a gap of seven years and two aborted films, his 2015 thriller film NH10, with Anushka Sharma's home production and in the lead, was commercially successful. The film is about honour killing and patriarchy. When it was screened to the censor board, half the members wanted to ban the film.

Navdeep Singh (Ashok Chakra)

Lieutenant Navdeep Singh was a Ghatak Platoon Commander of 15 Maratha Light Infantry regiment in the Indian Army.

He led an operation to ambush 17 well-trained and armed terrorists who infiltrated into Jammu and Kashmir state. He killed 4 of the terrorists and brought an injured team member to safety before succumbing to fatal injury from close range. He was posthumously conferred the highest peacetime gallantry award of India Ashoka Chakra by President of India on the 63rd Republic Day.

Family and career

Born in Gurdaspur, Navdeep Singh was a third-generation soldier in Indian Army. His grandfather was a junior commissioned officer while his father Joginder Singh served as subedar major in the Bengal Sappers for 30 years and retired as Honorary Captain. He completed his Graduation in BSc. in hotel management in 2006 from IHM-Gurdaspur and Post-graduation in MBA from the Army Institute of Management, Kolkata in 2009, Navdeep Singh shunned a corporate career and instead joined the Officers Training Academy of the Indian Army as a gentleman cadet. He was commissioned into the Army Ordnance Corps, in 2010. As is the custom for all the non-fighting arms of the Indian Army, officers must complete an attachment of two years with an infantry battalion in a war or counter-insurgency theater. For the duration of these two years, the officer, for all practical purposes, belongs to the said infantry battalion. Lieutenant Singh was attached to the 15 Maratha Light Infantry in Jammu & Kashmir in his first posting as a commissioned officer.

Early life

Navdeep was born in Hyderabad, Telangana to Rama Rao and Madhavi. He did his schooling from Sri Mathrusri High School in Kodad, India.

Film career

Navdeep has appeared in both Telugu and Tamil films, portraying diverse characters. Navdeep's first film appearance was in the 2004 Telugu romantic film, Jai, in which he played an Indian boxer fighting Laskar-E-Taiba terrorists. In the 2005 Tamil blockbuster Arinthum Ariyamalum, he portrayed the son of the don, Prakash Raj, who was estranged from his father. He also acted in Arya 2 alongside Allu Arjun.

He has given his voice to an HIV/AIDS education animated software tutorial created by the nonprofit organization TeachAIDS.

Navdeep has five upcoming films, including a romantic film with Sneha Ullal.
