Essakane is a rural commune and village of the Cercle of Goundam in the Tombouctou Region of Mali. The commune includes around 16 small settlements. The small village of Essakane is around 70 kilometers west of the town of Timbuktu. The commune includes Lake Faguibine and two depression, Lake Kamango and Lake Gouber, which fill with water in years when the annual flood of the Niger River is particularly extensive.
Between 2001 and 2009 Essakane was the site of an annual music festival held in January called the Festival au Désert (Festival in the Desert). Because of the difficulty of guaranteeing the security of foreign tourists, in 2010 and 2011 the Malian Government moved the festival to the outskirts of Timbuktu. The festival showcases the music of the local Tuareg people, as well as musicians from other nearby nations such as Mauritania and Niger.

Canadian gold producer Iamgold believes there is a lot of potential to grow the reserves at its new Essakane project, in Burkina Faso, interim CEO Peter Jones said on Wednesday.
I had to do this for Global History, so.. might as well upload it. It is interesting, though!
On 7th January 2009, I went from Tombouctou to the Festival au Desert, Essakane, which was held from the 8th-10th January 2009. This was my 4th time at the Festival, but the first time I had arrived there by travelling from Timbuktu on the back of a jeep, sitting on the luggage, along with a dozen or so Tuareg men, racing the 70 Km across the desert. I loved that trip! Amazing! So cool!!
The Malian crisis has for two years rocked the country's vital tourist industry. With the recent military intervention against Islamists in the north, many traders hope the conflict can conclude once and for all, and business can return to normal. Duration: 01:52
The conflict in Mali is taking a heavy toll on the country's tourism industry. Once a popular cultural destination in West Africa, now few people are holidaying there. And as ever, local Malians are hardest hit. Clementine Logan has more.

aún no te puedo dejar de querer.
Cada día busco dónde está el error,
maldita huella de mi situación.
No lo sé, no lo sé, que voy a hacer.
Sombras de ayer dándome calor,
mírame bien, Todo terminó...
Yo se que no, no va a volver,
llevo pegada su pena a mi piel.
Yo se que no, no puede ser,
aún no te puedo dejar de querer.
Tormenta interior, esperando el sol.
Aprendo a olvidar, Todo terminó...
Yo se que no, no va a volver,
llevo pegada su pena a mi piel.
Yo se que no, no puede ser,
aún no te puedo dejar de querer.
