Az 1959-ben készült történelmi kalandfilmet május 19-től vetítik a Puskin Moziban és országszerte számos további helyszínen, digitálisan felújítva, magyar felirattal.
William Wyler filmtörténeti klasszikusát máig rekordnak számító, 11 Oscar-díjjal jutalmazták, többek között Rózsa Miklós grandiózus filmzenéjéért. További magyar vonatkozásai a filmnek, hogy leghíresebb jelenete, a mai napig lélegzetelállító, Golden Globe-különdíjjal elismert kocsiverseny a második stábot vezető Andrew Marton (Marton Endre) akciórendező nevéhez fűződik, Ben-Hur hófehér lovai pedig a híres lipicai ménesből érkeztek.
Erre a 70mm-es filmszalagra rögzített, 2.76:1 képarányával extra-szélesvásznúnak számító, pazar látványvilágú mozira különösen érvényes a megállapítás: aki nem látta nagyvásznon, nem is látta igazán! :)
A film digitális felújításának különlegessége, hogy jelenleg elérhető legmodernebb, ún. 8K szkennelési technikával készült, az eredeti 70mm-es negatív képkockáit a HD felbontás 16-szorosát jelentő pixelszámmal dolgozták fel, hogy a lehető legjobban megközelítsék az eredeti film minőségét. A restaurációt Warner Bros laborja végezte a film 50. évfordulójához kapcsolódóan, 1 millió dolláros büdzséből. A film közel 400.000 képkockájának egyenkénti feldolgozása végül két év csúszással, 2011-re fejeződött be, első alkalommal a 49. New York-i Filmfesztiválon mutatták be a nagyközönségnek. Mozivásznon azóta csak ritkán, egy-egy fesztivál keretében lehetett látni szerte a világban.

A jeruzsálemi Júda Ben-Hur (Charlton Heston), egy gazdag zsidó család fia, újra találkozik gyerekkori barátjával, a római légió parancsnokával, Messalával. A szívélyes hangulat azonban hamar szertefoszlik, amikor Messala lényegében arra kéri barátját, hogy árulja el tulajdon honfitársait. Ben-Hur visszautasítja a kérést, s a két férfi ellenségként válik el egymástól. Messala bosszújára hamar sor kerül. Amikor Ben Hur húga véletlenül megzavarja az új római helytartó bevonulását a városba, Messala parancsára Ben Hur családját börtönbe vetik, őt pedig gályarabságba taszítják. Ezzel kezdetét veszi évtizedeken át tartó viszontagságos vándorlása, melynek során a gályarabságból Róma legnagyobbjai közé küzdi fel magát, majd visszatér Júdeába, hogy bosszút álljon Messalán és megtalálja halottnak hitt édesanyját és húgát. Útja közben eldönti, hogy a kardját felcseréli Krisztus tanaival. Annak a Krisztusnak a tanaival, aki még halálában is képes arra, hogy az egész birodalmat a felforgassa.

Margaret Booth
Margaret Booth (January 16, 1898 – October 28, 2002) was an American film editor.
Born in Los Angeles, she started her Hollywood career as a 'patcher', editing films by D. W. Griffith, around 1915. Her brother was actor Elmer Booth. Later she worked for Louis B. Mayer when he was an independent film producer. When Mayer merged with others to form Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in 1924, she worked as a director's assistant with that company. She edited several films starring Greta Garbo, including Camille (1936).
Booth edited such diverse films as Mutiny on the Bounty (1935, for which she was nominated for an Academy Award). Among the other films on which she worked are Wise Girls (1929), A Yank at Oxford (1938), The Way We Were (1973), The Sunshine Boys (1975), The Goodbye Girl (1977), The Cheap Detective (1978), and Seems Like Old Times (1980). She was supervising editor and associate producer on several films for producer Ray Stark, culminating with executive producer credit on The Slugger's Wife (1985) when she was 87 years old.

Az 1959-ben készült történelmi kalandfilmet május 19-től vetítik a Puskin Moziban és országszerte számos további helyszínen, digitálisan felújítva, magyar felirattal.
William Wyler filmtörténeti klasszikusát máig rekordnak számító, 11 Oscar-díjjal jutalmazták, többek között Rózsa Miklós grandiózus filmzenéjéért. További magyar vonatkozásai a filmnek, hogy leghíresebb jelenete, a mai napig lélegzetelállító, Golden Globe-különdíjjal elismert kocsiverseny a második stábot vezető Andrew Marton (Marton Endre) akciórendező nevéhez fűződik, Ben-Hur hófehér lovai pedig a híres lipicai ménesből érkeztek.
Erre a 70mm-es filmszalagra rögzített, 2.76:1 képarányával extra-szélesvásznúnak számító, pazar látványvilágú mozira különösen érvényes a megállapítás: aki nem látta nagyvásznon, nem is látta igazán! :)
A film digitális felújításának különlegessége, hogy jelenleg elérhető legmodernebb, ún. 8K szkennelési technikával készült, az eredeti 70mm-es negatív képkockáit a HD felbontás 16-szorosát jelentő pixelszámmal dolgozták fel, hogy a lehető legjobban megközelítsék az eredeti film minőségét. A restaurációt Warner Bros laborja végezte a film 50. évfordulójához kapcsolódóan, 1 millió dolláros büdzséből. A film közel 400.000 képkockájának egyenkénti feldolgozása végül két év csúszással, 2011-re fejeződött be, első alkalommal a 49. New York-i Filmfesztiválon mutatták be a nagyközönségnek. Mozivásznon azóta csak ritkán, egy-egy fesztivál keretében lehetett látni szerte a világban.

A jeruzsálemi Júda Ben-Hur (Charlton Heston), egy gazdag zsidó család fia, újra találkozik gyerekkori barátjával, a római légió parancsnokával, Messalával. A szívélyes hangulat azonban hamar szertefoszlik, amikor Messala lényegében arra kéri barátját, hogy árulja el tulajdon honfitársait. Ben-Hur visszautasítja a kérést, s a két férfi ellenségként válik el egymástól. Messala bosszújára hamar sor kerül. Amikor Ben Hur húga véletlenül megzavarja az új római helytartó bevonulását a városba, Messala parancsára Ben Hur családját börtönbe vetik, őt pedig gályarabságba taszítják. Ezzel kezdetét veszi évtizedeken át tartó viszontagságos vándorlása, melynek során a gályarabságból Róma legnagyobbjai közé küzdi fel magát, majd visszatér Júdeába, hogy bosszút álljon Messalán és megtalálja halottnak hitt édesanyját és húgát. Útja közben eldönti, hogy a kardját felcseréli Krisztus tanaival. Annak a Krisztusnak a tanaival, aki még halálában is képes arra, hogy az egész birodalmat a felforgassa.

In Memoriam DOUG FOX (1940-2017) : Rosa Raisa and her contemporaries
As a tribute to Doug Fox who passed away February 2017 we uploaded a radio programme he made with associate editor Charles Mintzer about his biography on Rosa Raisa. Doug and Charles talk about Raisa and her contemporaries. We edited out the recordings to keep the programme listenable. The programme goes back to 13 November 2001 Obituary : Douglas M. Fox of Trumbull died peacefully at home on February 28, 2017 surrounded by those he loved and who loved him. A Professor of Public Administration, author of six books, and public management consultant, Dr. Fox received his bachelor's degree from Yale University in 1962 and his doctorate from Columbia University in 1968. Our Miss Brooks is an American situation comedy starring Eve Arden as a sardonic high school English teacher. It began as a radio show broadcast from 1948 to 1957. When the show was adapted to television (1952--56), it became one of the medium's earliest hits. In 1956, the sitcom was adapted for big screen in the film of the same name. Connie (Constance) Brooks (Eve Arden), an English teacher at fictional Madison High School. Douglas M. Fox of Trumbull died peacefully at home on February 28, 2017 surrounded by those he loved and who loved him. A Professor of Public Administration, author of six books, and public management consultant, Dr. Fox received his bachelor's degree from Yale University in 1962 and his doctorate from Columbia University in 1968. He taught college classes for 35 years and was a member of the faculty at Western Connecticut State University from 1979 until his retirement in 2001. Doug Fox was host of WMNR-FM's 'Evening at the Opera' program since 1983. He was passionate about opera and enjoyed his many conversations with listeners over these past years. Doug was proud of the fact that through his opera program he was able to share his love of opera with both beginners and aficionados. Doug was born in New London, CT, on May 2, 1940, the son of Margaret Knott Fox and Wilson Ward Fox. He is survived by his wife, Diana Fox, of Trumbull; his daughter, Marcia Sellner, and grandchildren, Zachary and Jordan Sellner, of Danbury; his brother, Michael Fox, of Seattle, WA; his sister, Lyell Fox, of Sequim, WA; his nieces Kelly Fox Violette, Hailey Fox and Anna Fox, nephews Erik Hildebrand and Adam Hildebrand, and cousins Althea Booth Athenian, Kathy McCutcheon, Marjorie Gerli, Bob Knott and their families. He was predeceased by his parents, his son, Jeffrey Fox and his nephew Brendan Fox. A memorial service to celebrate Doug's life and share memories, will be held at a date to be determined. Recordings of operatic music were played at his memorial service, and listeners of his program and all opera lovers were invited. Interment was private.

Miss Brooks' references to her own usually-in-the-shop car became one of the show's running gags.
Philip Boynton (Jeff Chandler on radio, billed sometimes under his birth name Ira Grossel); Robert Rockwell on both radio and television), Madison High biology teacher, the shy and often clueless object of Miss Brooks' affections.
Margaret Davis (Jane Morgan), Miss Brooks' absentminded landlady, whose two trademarks are a cat named Minerva, and a penchant for whipping up exotic and often inedible breakfasts.
Harriet Conklin (Gloria McMillan), Madison High student and daughter of principal Conklin. A sometime love interest for Walter Denton, Harriet was honest and guileless with none of her father's malevolence and dishonesty.
Stretch (Fabian) Snodgrass (Leonard Smith), dull-witted Madison High athletic star and Walter's best friend.
Daisy Enright (Mary Jane Croft), Madison High English teacher, and a scheming professional and romantic rival to Miss Brooks.
Jacques Monet (Gerald Mohr), a French teacher.
Our Miss Brooks was a hit on radio from the outset; within eight months of its launch as a regular series, the show landed several honors, including four for Eve Arden, who won polls in four individual publications of the time. Arden had actually been the third choice to play the title role. Harry Ackerman, West Coast director of programming, wanted Shirley Booth for the part, but as he told historian Gerald Nachman many years later, he realized Booth was too focused on the underpaid downside of public school teaching at the time to have fun with the role.
Lucille Ball was believed to have been the next choice, but she was already committed to My Favorite Husband and didn't audition. Chairman Bill Paley, who was friendly with Arden, persuaded her to audition for the part. With a slightly rewritten audition script--Osgood Conklin, for example, was originally written as a school board president but was now written as the incoming new Madison principal--Arden agreed to give the newly-revamped show a try.
Produced by Larry Berns and written by director Al Lewis, Our Miss Brooks premiered on July 19, 1948. According to radio critic John Crosby, her lines were very "feline" in dialogue scenes with principal Conklin and would-be boyfriend Boynton, with sharp, witty comebacks. The interplay between the cast--blustery Conklin, nebbishy Denton, accommodating Harriet, absentminded Mrs. Davis, clueless Boynton, scheming Miss Enright--also received positive reviews.
Arden won a radio listeners' poll by Radio Mirror magazine as the top ranking comedienne of 1948-49, receiving her award at the end of an Our Miss Brooks broadcast that March. "I'm certainly going to try in the coming months to merit the honor you've bestowed upon me, because I understand that if I win this two years in a row, I get to keep Mr. Boynton," she joked. But she was also a hit with the critics; a winter 1949 poll of newspaper and magazine radio editors taken by Motion Picture Daily named her the year's best radio comedienne.
For its entire radio life, the show was sponsored by Colgate-Palmolive-Peet, promoting Palmolive soap, Lustre Creme shampoo and Toni hair care products. The radio series continued until 1957, a year after its television life ended.

Philip Boynton (Jeff Chandler on radio, billed sometimes under his birth name Ira Grossel); Robert Rockwell on both radio and television), Madison High biology teacher, the shy and often clueless object of Miss Brooks' affections.
Margaret Davis (Jane Morgan), Miss Brooks' absentminded landlady, whose two trademarks are a cat named Minerva, and a penchant for whipping up exotic and often inedible breakfasts.
Harriet Conklin (Gloria McMillan), Madison High student and daughter of principal Conklin. A sometime love interest for Walter Denton, Harriet was honest and guileless with none of her father's malevolence and dishonesty.
Stretch (Fabian) Snodgrass (Leonard Smith), dull-witted Madison High athletic star and Walter's best friend.
Daisy Enright (Mary Jane Croft), Madison High English teacher, and a scheming professional and romantic rival to Miss Brooks.
Jacques Monet (Gerald Mohr), a French teacher.
Our Miss Brooks was a hit on radio from the outset; within eight months of its launch as a regular series, the show landed several honors, including four for Eve Arden, who won polls in four individual publications of the time. Arden had actually been the third choice to play the title role. Harry Ackerman, West Coast director of programming, wanted Shirley Booth for the part, but as he told historian Gerald Nachman many years later, he realized Booth was too focused on the underpaid downside of public school teaching at the time to have fun with the role.
Lucille Ball was believed to have been the next choice, but she was already committed to My Favorite Husband and didn't audition. Chairman Bill Paley, who was friendly with Arden, persuaded her to audition for the part. With a slightly rewritten audition script--Osgood Conklin, for example, was originally written as a school board president but was now written as the incoming new Madison principal--Arden agreed to give the newly-revamped show a try.
Produced by Larry Berns and written by director Al Lewis, Our Miss Brooks premiered on July 19, 1948. According to radio critic John Crosby, her lines were very "feline" in dialogue scenes with principal Conklin and would-be boyfriend Boynton, with sharp, witty comebacks. The interplay between the cast--blustery Conklin, nebbishy Denton, accommodating Harriet, absentminded Mrs. Davis, clueless Boynton, scheming Miss Enright--also received positive reviews.
Arden won a radio listeners' poll by Radio Mirror magazine as the top ranking comedienne of 1948-49, receiving her award at the end of an Our Miss Brooks broadcast that March. "I'm certainly going to try in the coming months to merit the honor you've bestowed upon me, because I understand that if I win this two years in a row, I get to keep Mr. Boynton," she joked. But she was also a hit with the critics; a winter 1949 poll of newspaper and magazine radio editors taken by Motion Picture Daily named her the year's best radio comedienne.
For its entire radio life, the show was sponsored by Colgate-Palmolive-Peet, promoting Palmolive soap, Lustre Creme shampoo and Toni hair care products. The radio series continued until 1957, a year after its television life ended.

A restaurációt Warner Bros laborja végezte a film 50. évfordulójához kapcsolódóan, 1 millió dolláros büdzséből. A film közel 400.000 képkockájának egyenkénti feldolgozása végül két év csúszással, 2011-re fejeződött be, első alkalommal a 49. New York-i Filmfesztiválon mutatták be a nagyközönségnek. Mozivásznon azóta csak ritkán, egy-egy fesztivál keretében lehetett látni szerte a világban.

Amikor Ben Hur húga véletlenül megzavarja az új római helytartó bevonulását a városba, Messala parancsára Ben Hur családját börtönbe vetik, őt pedig gályarabságba taszítják. Ezzel kezdetét veszi évtizedeken át tartó viszontagságos vándorlása, melynek során a gályarabságból Róma legnagyobbjai közé küzdi fel magát, majd visszatér Júdeába, hogy bosszút álljon Messalán és megtalálja halottnak hitt édesanyját és húgát. In 1898 he appeared as Sydney Carton in The Noble Deed, based on A Tale of Two Cities at the Oxford Theatre.[3] He performed in monologues, recitations and sketches, including the Lounger and The Green Eye of the Yellow God.[4]
