While making tea for Mrs. Sellner (Anne Haney), Daniel (Robin Williams) must disguise himself as Mrs. Doubtfire by sticking his face into the frosting of a cake.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Robin Williams learns that keeping in touch with his children can be a drag in this hit comedy. Daniel Hillard (Williams) is an eccentric actor who specializes in dubbing voices for cartoon characters. Daniel is a kind man and a loving father, but he's a poor disciplinarian and a shaky role model. After throwing an elaborate and disastrous birthday party for his son, Daniel's wife Miranda (Sally Field) reaches the end of her patience and files for divorce. Daniel is heartbroken when Miranda is given custody of the children, and he's only allowed to visit them once a week. Determined to stay in contact with his kids, Daniel learns that Miranda is looking for a housekeeper, and with help from his brother Frank (Harvey Fierstein), a makeup artist, Daniel gets the job disguised as Mrs. Iphegenia Doubtfire, a stern but caring Scottish nanny. Daniel pulls off the ruse so well that neither his ex-wife nor his children recognize him, and in the process, he learns how to be the good parent he should have been all along. However, Daniel also has to deal with the little matter of Miranda's new boyfriend, Stu (Pierce Brosnan).

Mrs. Doubtfire
Mrs. Doubtfire is a 1993 American comedy-drama family film directed by Chris Columbus and based on the novel, Alias Madame Doubtfire by Anne Fine. It stars Robin Williams (who also served as co-producer) and Sally Field. It won the Academy Award for Best Makeup and the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.
Although the film received mixed reviews during its original theatrical run, subsequent reevaluation has been more positive: the film was placed 67th in the American Film Institute's 100 Years, 100 Laughs: America's Funniest Movies, a list of the 100 funniest movies of the 20th century, and was also rated No. 40 on Bravo's 100 Funniest Movies of All Time. The original music score was composed by Howard Shore.
In 2001, a sequel titled Mrs. Doubtfire 2 began production by Bonnie Hunt. Writing for the sequel began in 2003, but it was cancelled in December 2006, after Williams believed the script was "useless." In April 2014, however, production resumed, but after Williams' death in August 2014, plans for a sequel were permanently cancelled.

Robin Williams
Robin McLaurin Williams (July 21, 1951 – August 11, 2014) was an American actor and comedian. Starting as a stand-up comedian in San Francisco and Los Angeles in the mid-1970s, he is credited with leading San Francisco's comedy renaissance. After rising to fame as Mork in the sitcom Mork & Mindy (1978–82), he went on to establish a career in both stand-up comedy and feature film acting. He was known for his improvisational skills.
After his film debut in the musical comedy Popeye (1980), he starred or co-starred in widely acclaimed films, including the comedy-drama The World According to Garp (1982), war comedy Good Morning, Vietnam (1987), dramas Dead Poets Society (1989) and Awakenings (1990), comedy-drama The Fisher King (1991), the animated musical-fantasy Aladdin (1992), drama Good Will Hunting (1997), and psychological thriller One Hour Photo (2002), as well as financial successes such as the fantasy adventure film Hook (1991), comedy Mrs. Doubtfire (1993), fantasy adventure Jumanji (1995), comedy The Birdcage (1996), and the Night at the Museum trilogy.

I have been fishing the pond behind the South Stuart AT&T; store for almost four years ever since I moved to Florida. Two years ago, I took notice that somebody started a camp on it's northern shore. When I went back to see if I could do an interview with the residents for a feature story about homelessness on the Treasure Coast for my journalism class, I found that camp was deserted. After walking around the woods in the nearby areas, I found the resident on the other side of WalMart at another pond. After spending a couple hours with him, I found out that there are several people living in the woods immediately around WalMart. He admitted that lived at this camp but relocated. It just goes to show that you can live off the land if you are properly prepared. I intend to visit him again in the next couple days and I will post a video of his new camp. He may even allow me to videotape an interview, as well. MORE TO COME, STAY TUNED! -

Abandoned camp in Stuart, FL behind AT&T; and WalMart
I have been fishing the pond behind the South Stuart AT&T; store for almost four years ever since I moved to Florida. Two years ago, I took notice that somebody started a camp on it's northern shore. When I went back to see if I could do an interview with the residents for a feature story about homelessness on the Treasure Coast for my journalism class, I found that camp was deserted. After walking around the woods in the nearby areas, I found the resident on the other side of WalMart at another pond. After spending a couple hours with him, I found out that there are several people living in the woods immediately around WalMart. He admitted that lived at this camp but relocated. It just goes to show that you can live off the land if you are properly prepared. I intend to visit him a...

I have been fishing the pond behind the South Stuart AT&T; store for almost four years ever since I moved to Florida. Two years ago, I took notice that somebody started a camp on it's northern shore. When I went back to see if I could do an interview with the residents for a feature story about homelessness on the Treasure Coast for my journalism class, I found that camp was deserted.
After walking around the woods in the nearby areas, I found the resident on the other side of WalMart at another pond. After spending a couple hours with him, I found out that there are several people living in the woods immediately around WalMart. He admitted that lived at this camp but relocated. It just goes to show that you can live off the land if you are properly prepared.
I intend to visit him again in the next couple days and I will post a video of his new camp. He may even allow me to videotape an interview, as well.

This film is in the public domain. The fifth-highest grossing film of 1940, "Santa Fe Trail" stars Errol Flynn as J.E.B. Stuart. His frequent co-star Olivia de Havilland plays his love interest, Kit Carson Holliday. Ronald Reagan portrays his West Point 1854 'classmate' George Armstrong Custer. Historical inaccuracies abound in this film. The film is centered on abolitionist John Brown--who is painted as a villain--but not as much as Custer and Stuart's fictional classmate, Carl Rader, who was played by Van Heflin. When you get a client with knee pain, are you thinking locally or globally? I make some progress when I work on and around the joint itself, but I find that structures up and down the leg can be involved. When I work with posterior knee pain, I find that myofascial "steam-rolling" is good for both the calf and the hamstrings. Go broad, keep a nice 45 degree angle, and pour your weight into your client. Be mindful of the popliteal region (a word that eluded me during the video), but don't be afraid of it. Stay to the outside of the posterior knee, and think of giving traction to the tendons in the region. Don't forget the distal leg, and consider incorporating some movement as you work. In one scene, Brown abandons a group of slaves--leaving them to burn to death in a barn fire with Stuart. And Brown treated the Harper's Ferry hostages well--in this movie, Brown shoots one. The abolitionist stronghold of Palmyra is referred to as "the cancer of Kansas."
Michael Curtiz, who won a a Best Director Academy Award three years later for "Casablanca," directs here.
This was Reagan's last big movie before "King's Row." The future president later joined the Army--just as his Hollywood career was set to take off.
Oh, this movie has very little to do with the real Santa Fe Trail. I suspect the title was chosen because of the popularity of westerns at the time. Most of the civilians in this film wear cowboy hats, although the Stetson Boss of the Plains hat, arguably the first cowboy hat, wasn't produced until 1865.
There are some terrific character actors in this movie, including Alan Hale Sr., Ward Bond, Moroni Olsen, and Raymond Massey--who plays Brown.
The film ends with an ominous warning from the abolitionist, "I, John Brown, am now quite certain that the crimes of this guilty land can never be purged away but with blood."
World War II had started the year before. The crimes of Nazism had to be extinguished in the same manner.
The final words I leave to Reagan.
From a 1984 speech: "We don't lump people by groups or special interests. And let me add, in the party of Lincoln, there is no room for intolerance and not even a small corner for anti-Semitism or bigotry of any kind. Many people are welcome in our house, but not the bigots."

When you get a client with knee pain, are you thinking locally or globally? I make some progress when I work on and around the joint itself, but I find that structures up and down the leg can be involved.
When I work with posterior knee pain, I find that myofascial "steam-rolling" is good for both the calf and the hamstrings. Go broad, keep a nice 45 degree angle, and pour your weight into your client. Be mindful of the popliteal region (a word that eluded me during the video), but don't be afraid of it. Stay to the outside of the posterior knee, and think of giving traction to the tendons in the region.
Don't forget the distal leg, and consider incorporating some movement as you work. Manipulating the foot can allow you to lengthen and slacken the posterior thigh and leg, as well as providing some rotation at the hip. As you rotate, each hamstring muscle will get a bit of a different stretch than its neighbors.
Calf and knee stretches might be useful homework. Look for videos on that subject soon!

A common rationalization for the welfare state is that even Ayn Rand had to accept Social Security payments. This is intended to discredit her and all other critics of the welfare state. Indeed, I regularly attend a taxpayer-funded city library. I drive on government roads that taxes pay for. Upon retirement, I intend to collect Social(ist In)Security money. We are then told that if not for the welfare state, we critics of the welfare state would be starving, homeless, and naked. I am told that if we had a liberal republican Night Watchman State without taxpayer funding for social services, I would have no public library for reading and no roads to drive on. Therefore, it is said, we free-marketers are ingrates.
That entire argument is based on a fallacy. The reason why we free-marketers use taxpayer-funded government services is that the welfare state has manipulated the system in such a way that privately funded alternatives (including private charity) become less readily available -- so much so that, to survive, we free-marketers resort to using the government monopolies. It does not follow that if the welfare state were replaced with a liberal republican Night Watchman State, there would be no privately-funded public library for me to attend.

Clarification of what I said about Noam Chomsky's "libertarian socialism": It is claimed that what Chomsky wants, in the long run, is a system of limited government, wherein people live on collectivist communes voluntarily, not forced to do so by the State. In the present, though, Chomsky does advocates expansions of government power, including his praise for the graduated income tax. I think Chomsky reconciles the two positions as Karl Marx did: Like Marx, Chomsky would prefer that the State forcibly establish a collectivist lifestyle in which people selflessly toil for the collective community. As Marx said, it is only after people become accustomed to this collectivist lifestyle that the State can be allowed to wither away.

The deepest mystery of existence is the haunting question, why does anything exist? Anything of any kind, anywhere. Lump together everything that exists and might exist—physical, mental, platonic, spiritual, God, other nonphysical. Physical: include all matter, energy, space and time, and all the laws and principles that govern them (known and unknown). Mental: imagine all kinds of consciousness and awareness (known and unknown). Platonic: gather all forms of abstract objects (numbers, logic, forms, propositions, possibilities—known and unknown). Spiritual / God: embrace anything that could possibly fit these nonphysical categories (if anything does). Other nonphysical: let's leave nothing unclassified. Lump together literally everything contained in ultimate reality. Now call it all "Something." Why is there "Something" rather than "Nothing?"
I explore a wide variety of solutions to what must be the ultimate mystery. Some answers are philosophical, some are theological or religious, while others come from physics and cosmology—fields in which debate on the deep origin of all reality continues to rage. I present five possible "solutions" to the "Why-is-there-Something-rather-than-Nothing" puzzle: (i) a blank is absurd; (ii) no explanation needed; (iii) chance; (iv) value/perfection as ultimate; and (v) mind/consciousness as ultimate.
Did the universe, or multiverse, begin with a quantum-fluctuation big bang or in the creative consciousness of a divine designer? Or did the universe, or multiverse, always exist as a purely physical world or as the expression of a primordial cosmic consciousness? I show the many diverse paths the human imagination and human ingenuity have followed when confronted by this most baffling of all enigmas.

Dr. Kuhn has an A.B. in Human Biology (Johns Hopkins), MBA (MIT Sloan School), and PhD in Anatomy / Brain Research (UCLA). He is chairman of The Kuhn Foundation.

Thyroid cancer is one of the fastest growing cancers in the United States, especially among women. In Florida, thyroid cancer trails only melanoma skin cancer as the state’s fastest rising cancer.
Today’s guest on episode 38 of STEM-Talk has made it his mission to not only treat thyroid cancer, but also raise awareness about the disease.
Dr. Mark Lupo is founder and medical director of the Thyroid and Endocrine Center of Florida which is based in Sarasota. A graduate of Duke University, he went on to earn his medical degree at the University of Florida where he worked with the world-famous thyroid expert, Dr. Ernie Mazzaferri. Dr. Lupo also did his internship and residency in internal medicine at Florida and then won a fellowship in endocrinology, metabolism and nutrition at the University of California San Diego and the Scripps Clinic.
Dr. Lupo’s research and practice are particularly focused on thyroid nodules, which are abnormal growths of thyroid cells that form a lump within the thyroid gland. Although the vast majority of thyroid nodules are benign, a small proportion do contain thyroid cancer. His practice is centered on diagnosing and treating thyroid cancer at the earliest stage and helping people avoid unnecessary surgeries.
He also is very involved in teaching neck ultrasound, thyroid cancer and general thyroid disease to other physicians at the national level. He has published book chapters and several articles on thyroid disease and thyroid ultrasound. In addition to his work as the medical director of the Thyroid and Endocrine Center of Florida, he also is a clinical assistant professor on the faculty of the Florida State University College of Medicine.
Dr. Lupo also was named the 2017 recipient of the Jack Baskin Endocrine Teaching Award, which is annually presented by the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists.
