UNITE & CWU protest against greedy bosses

On Thursday October 23 the Communication Workers Union (CWU) and UNITE will join forces to protest against two of Australia’s worst employers – Australia Post and 7-Eleven.

There will be a rally outside Australia Post HQ at 321 Exhibition Street at 3pm and a rally outside the 7-Eleven store at 237 Exhibition Street at 4pm.

7-Eleven: Bullying and intimidation

UNITE has received several reports in the past few weeks from 7-Eleven workers who say they have been bullied by their franchise owners.

The workers have told us that there has always been low level bullying taking place but this has been stepped up as a result of the Workplace Ombudsman’s investigation into employment practices at 7-Eleven.

No public support for 7-Eleven’s dodgy behaviour!

UNITE successfully blockaded another 7-Eleven store in the Melbourne CBD yesterday.  UNITE is calling on 7-Eleven to stop breaking the law and start paying their workers properly.

UNITE set to hit 7-Eleven again

From 5pm – 6pm this Thursday October 16, UNITE will stage an action outside the 7-Eleven store at 391 Swanston Street Melbourne. This store is directly across the road from the RMIT University City Campus.

7-Eleven: Carlton store shut down for an hour!

UNITE held another action outside a 7-Eleven store in Carlton yesterday. The store, which was located very close to Melbourne University, was successfully blockaded for an hour.

UNITE was protesting against 7-Eleven’s employment practices which include underpaying staff and asking people to work on trial without wages.

UNITE action against 7-Eleven in Carlton

Meet from 5pm – 6pm Thursday October 9 at 743 Swanston Street Carlton. The store is near the corner of Swanston and Grattan Streets (close to Melbourne Uni).

This week, as university students are back on campus, UNITE has decided to target the 7-Eleven store in Carlton closest to Melbourne University. We will be letting students know about the super-exploitation taking place at 7-Eleven stores.

7-Eleven: No support for $8 per hour!

UNITE staged another successful action outside a 7-Eleven store on Swanston Street in the Melbourne CBD yesterday. The purpose of the protest was to let 7-Eleven customers know about the dodgy employment practices that the convenience store giant is engaged in.

In general people were shocked to hear that most 7-Eleven workers are only paid around $10 per hour and are often forced to do unpaid trial work.
