This video was taken 5-15-14, the large dig site has been a work in progress since I discovered it on 1-17-13. This was probably my last day at this dig site as I also found a much better dig site yesterday after recording this video. Hopefully much better things to come in the near future. Stay Tuned

El Dorado
El Dorado (pronounced: [el doˈɾaðo], English /ˌɛl dəˈrɑːdoʊ/; Spanish for "the golden one"), originally El Hombre Dorado (the golden man), El Indio Dorado (the golden Indian), or El Rey Dorado (the golden king), is the term used by Europeans to describe a mythical tribal chief of the Muisca native people of Colombia, who, as an initiation rite, covered himself with gold dust and submerged in Lake Guatavita. The legends surrounding El Dorado changed over time, as it went from being a city, to a kingdom, and then finally an empire.
A second location for El Dorado was inferred from rumors, which inspired several unsuccessful expeditions in the late 1500s in search of a city called Manõa on the shores of Lake Parime. The most famous of these expeditions were led by Sir Walter Raleigh. In pursuit of the legend, Spanish conquistadors and numerous others searched Colombia, Venezuela, and parts of Guyana and northern Brazil for the city and its fabulous king. In the course of these explorations, much of northern South America, including the Amazon River, was mapped. By the beginning of the 19th century most people dismissed the existence of the city as a myth.

Presented by Dr. Debra Ayres Pine Hill lies near the center of a volcanically-derived gabbro intrusion in the foothills of the Sierras in western El Dorado County containing fire-prone chaparral, oak woodland, and grassland communities. Over 10% (741 plants) of the flora of the entire state of California, including seven rare plant species, occurs within this 30,000 acre gabbro island. Dr. Debra Ayres has been studying the rare plants in this area for over 20 years. She will present new analyses showing that two chaparral communities are present here. Recognition and preservation of both types of chaparral will be necessary to conserve this diverse flora.

Production is a collaborative effort between Soroptimist of Cameron Park and El Dorado Hills and Cameron Park Rotary to fund a wide range of community programs and projects. Through the years, it has expanded to attract more members of the community and enthusiasts of airplanes and vintage cars.
Over 20 vintage aircraft and 250 classic cars were displayed and judged in several categories by a panel of judges. In addition to the cars and planes, over forty-five community organizations, sponsors and vendors lent their support. Cameron Park Fire Department, local Boy Scout troops, the Ponderosa High School Marching Band, Civil Air Patrol, Shingle Springs Chamber of Commerce and Cameron Park Fire Department Explorer Post all participated in the day-long event. Cameron Park Rotary's Team Pancake served over 200 hungry visitors earning the Ponderosa High School Interact Club nearly $1,000 for their activities.

Over 10% (741 plants) of the flora of the entire state of California, including seven rare plant species, occurs within this 30,000 acre gabbro island. Dr. Debra Ayres has been studying the rare plants in this area for over 20 years. She will present new analyses showing that two chaparral communities are present here. Recognition and preservation of both types of chaparral will be necessary to conserve this diverse flora.
