Hi! Lori again from Maker High. Hello
to all my fellow Makers.
Today we're going to talk about how to use a glue gun.
So, the first thing you're going to do is to protect your work surface.
If you have a silicone mat, that is fantastic. Totally use that.
But if not, you don't have to invest in anything that fancy.
If you have some newspaper or some
parchment paper
or some tinfoil, even a piece of
cardboard ... anything is fine
so long as the nozzle from the glue gun isn't resting on it
You want it to catch drips
you don't want it to catch fire. FIRE BAD!
If this is your first time using a brand new glue gun, you are going to want to
insert a glue stick before you plug it in
Now, some glue guns have a little
switch here on the side that you gonna
turn on and off.
most of them don't so if yours doesn't have one
do not panic and if the tip
starts smoking
a little bit that's okay. It's to be
expected. They have put a little bit
of a non-corrosive chemical on the tip.
So, you know, if it continues to smoke
after the first minute or two then you
might have a problem, but other than that, you should be okay.
Now, we're gonna wait for the internal
heating element to heat up
For the small, mini glue guns, it's
going to be about 2 minutes
and for the larger glue guns, it's going to take about 5.
GLUE GUN HEAT UP DOG INTERMISSION
“What are you doing, Halford?”
Don't force the trigger on your
glue gun.
if you wanna check and see if it's hot enough yet you can pull it very gently.
If there is no give, wait another
minute or two but if it seems like it's
good to go, then you should be ready.
You're going to hold your glue gun close to the item.
You're going to press the trigger to advance the glue
through the glue gun and out through the nozzle.
And then when you have enough glue, release the trigger and pull it away.
IF GLUING ITEMS TOGETHER, PRESS TOGETHER GENTLY
WAIT A FEW SECONDS
...AND SUCCESS
When your glue stick gets to be
about here in a glue gun you're just going to
want to add another one in through the
back
and it's going to finish feeding through
the one that you have
and pull the other one in. As always
remember when you are done using a glue
gun to turn off and unplug iteven if it's just leaving the room.

VO: "To get the best performance, safety advice and maintenance tips for your Tec Glue Gun, please follow these guidelines:
1. Always insert a glue stick into the applicator before plugging in. Before use, ALWAYS allow the applicator to warm up to operating temperature.
2. Most Tec glue guns are ready to use in 3-5 minutes.
3. Spray glue guns should be allowed to heat up for at least 10 minutes.
4. NEVER lay the applicator on its side
5. ALWAYS use the gun stand supplied or an optional stand for bench mounting.
6. ALWAYS unplug the applicator if it is not going to be used for 40 minutes or more or dispense a small amount of adhesive
6b. Glue guns are fitted with pre-set heaters that are constantly melting the adhesive. If not used and left turned on at a given point the molten adhesive will either char and block the nozzle or adhesive may travel back up the chamber. There is also a risk of burns.
7. To AID EASIER START UP the next time the applicator is used, disconnect from the power supply when work is complete and while the tool is cooling, extrude about half a stick of molten glue through the applicator.
8. NEVER withdraw a part melted glue slug / stick through the back of the gun
9. NEVER remove the nozzle from a cold applicator as thread damage could result. Remove when warm and always wear protective gloves.
10. ALWAYS wipe any excess molten glue from around the nozzle at the end of each work session. This will avoid build-up of glue deposits which can char. This should be done while the applicator is still hot and always wear protective gloves.
11. Tec silicone drip mat prevents damage to the work surface and keeps the gluing surface clean and tidy.
12. Henkel Melt-O-Clean -- Powerful Hot Melt Cleaner for glue guns & nozzles that removes residual, charred adhesive and heavy grease and grime.

Hot melt adhesive (HMA), also known as hot glue, is a form of thermoplastic adhesive that is commonly supplied in solid cylindrical sticks of various diameters, designed to be melted in an electric hot glue gun. The gun uses a continuous-duty heating element to melt the plastic glue, which may be pushed through the gun by a mechanical trigger mechanism, or directly by the user. The glue squeezed out of the heated nozzle is initially hot enough to burn and blister skin. The glue is tacky when hot, and solidifies in a few seconds to one minute. Hot melt adhesives can also be applied by dipping or spraying. This was invented by Miles Kent in 1894.
In industrial use, hot melt adhesives provide several advantages over solvent-based adhesives. Volatile organic compounds are reduced or eliminated, and the drying or curing step is eliminated. Hot melt adhesives have long shelf life and usually can be disposed of without special precautions. Some of the disadvantages involve thermal load of the substrate, limiting use to substrates not sensitive to higher temperatures, and loss of bond strength at higher temperatures, up to complete melting of the adhesive. This can be reduced by using a reactive adhesive that after solidifying undergoes further curing e.g. by moisture (e.g. reactive urethanes and silicones), or is cured by ultraviolet radiation. Some HMAs may not be resistant to chemical attacks and weathering. HMAs do not lose thickness during solidifying; solvent-based adhesives may lose up to 50-70% of layer thickness during drying.

Hi! Lori again from Maker High. Hello
to all my fellow Makers.
Today we're going to talk about how to use a glue gun.
So, the first thing you're going to do is to protect your work surface.
If you have a silicone mat, that is fantastic. Totally use that.
But if not, you don't have to invest in anything that fancy.
If you have some newspaper or some
parchment paper
or some tinfoil, even a piece of
cardboard ... anything is fine
so long as the nozzle from the glue gun isn't resting on it
You want it to catch drips
you don't want it to catch fire. FIRE BAD!
If this is your first time using a brand new glue gun, you are going to want to
insert a glue stick before you plug it in
Now, some glue guns have a little
switch here on the side that you gonna
turn on and off.
most of them don't so if yours doesn't have one
do not panic and if the tip
starts smoking
a little bit that's okay. It's to be
expected. They have put a little bit
of a non-corrosive chemical on the tip.
So, you know, if it continues to smoke
after the first minute or two then you
might have a problem, but other than that, you should be okay.
Now, we're gonna wait for the internal
heating element to heat up
For the small, mini glue guns, it's
going to be about 2 minutes
and for the larger glue guns, it's going to take about 5.
GLUE GUN HEAT UP DOG INTERMISSION
“What are you doing, Halford?”
Don't force the trigger on your
glue gun.
if you wanna check and see if it's hot enough yet you can pull it very gently.
If there is no give, wait another
minute or two but if it seems like it's
good to go, then you should be ready.
You're going to hold your glue gun close to the item.
You're going to press the trigger to advance the glue
through the glue gun and out through the nozzle.
And then when you have enough glue, release the trigger and pull it away.
IF GLUING ITEMS TOGETHER, PRESS TOGETHER GENTLY
WAIT A FEW SECONDS
...AND SUCCESS
When your glue stick gets to be
about here in a glue gun you're just going to
want to add another one in through the
back
and it's going to finish feeding through
the one that you have
and pull the other one in. As always
remember when you are done using a glue
gun to turn off and unplug iteven if it's just leaving the room.

1. Always insert a glue stick into the applicator before plugging in. Before use, ALWAYS allow the applicator to warm up to operating temperature.
2. Most Tec glue guns are ready to use in 3-5 minutes.
3. Spray glue guns should be allowed to heat up for at least 10 minutes.
4. NEVER lay the applicator on its side
5. ALWAYS use the gun stand supplied or an optional stand for bench mounting.
6. ALWAYS unplug the applicator if it is not going to be used for 40 minutes or more or dispense a small amount of adhesive
6b. Glue guns are fitted with pre-set heaters that are constantly melting the adhesive. If not used and left turned on at a given point the molten adhesive will either char and block the nozzle or adhesive may travel back up the chamber. There is also a risk of burns.
7. To AID EASIER START UP the next time the applicator is used, disconnect from the power supply when work is complete and while the tool is cooling, extrude about half a stick of molten glue through the applicator.
8. NEVER withdraw a part melted glue slug / stick through the back of the gun
9. NEVER remove the nozzle from a cold applicator as thread damage could result. Remove when warm and always wear protective gloves.
10. ALWAYS wipe any excess molten glue from around the nozzle at the end of each work session. This will avoid build-up of glue deposits which can char. This should be done while the applicator is still hot and always wear protective gloves.
11. Tec silicone drip mat prevents damage to the work surface and keeps the gluing surface clean and tidy.
12. Henkel Melt-O-Clean -- Powerful Hot Melt Cleaner for glue guns & nozzles that removes residual, charred adhesive and heavy grease and grime.

As Promised, Here's the list as text in case you can't keep up
10. Never pull a glue stick you have inserted out of the back of the glue gun, since you might pull hot glue out and hurt yourself. Also, you could break the feeder mech, and thus, your glue gun.
9. Never lay the glue gun on it's side. The glue could leak out the back of the heating element and burn you when you pick it back up again.
8. Don't leave your glue gun plugged in while unattended.
7. Do not use your glue gun on an uneven surface since it could fall over/off.
6. Do not leave cords dangling where children or animals can get caught up or hurt.
5. There are glue guns specifically for use with high temp and low temp glue sticks. Make sure you use the right kind for your gun.
4. Do not use hot glue guns anywhere near flammable material.
3. If there is a crack in the body, frayed wires or some other defect with your glue gun, please stop using it and go buy a new one. Using a defective glue gun increases the chance you will get hurt.
2. Do not use a glue gun on thin or porous materials without a silicone finger sleeve if you need to push any pieces together. The glue will seep through and burn you.

DIY Easter Chick hairbow (TUTORIAL) CRAFT HOW TO

You will need :
Yellow and Orange 3/8" ribbon
A lined alligator clip
scissors
glue gun
lighter for heat sealing
(1) tiny googly eye
Little bow is optional

You will need :
Yellow and Orange 3/8" ribbon
A lined alligator clip

lighter for heat sealing
(1) tiny googly eye
Little bow is optional
Clip your yellow ribbon into (4) pieces. You will need a 3 inch piece, a 3.5" piece, a 4" piece and a 4.5" piece. The yellow will serve as your chicks body.
Heat seal all of your ends with the lighter.
Now fold them (curve and overlap the ends with glue). Do the 3 inch piece first then take your other pieces and wrap them around the 3 inch piece.
Once the body is complete take a small piece of the yellow ribbon and secure the top of the body. Just wrap the ribbon around and secure on the back with glue. (This is where your googly eye will go).
Take a tiny piece of orange and form your beak. Trim so it will fight right on top of your yellow body. (heat seal ends)
Glue the beak to the body top.
Now take another piece of ORANGE and trim it right in the middle. Heat seal all edges and ends. This piece will serve as your chick's legs. You will need to trim it to the desired length. Glue it on the back of your chick's body.
*Optional- Remember the beak? I did this again TWICE and attached them to the legs (feet). Of course, this is optional.
Now you can attach your chick to the clip and add your googly eye!
EASY, Eh?
The little bow I added to my chickie is optional as well. I just made a very small and simple bow and glued it to the top.

But a warning it does require you to use a hot glue gun I recommend using a low temp glue gun! I burned my fingers many times!!! I was using a low temp but it still burned ouch!

Temperature Control for Hot Glue Gun
I created a Video to show how to make or fabricate a Temperature control for my hot glue gun. This application is used when I make styrofoam planes for the hobby that I enjoy. The glue gun gets super hot when it is idol. The glue is so hot is melts my foam. I have to express glue out until I reach the glue that is the proper temperature to use. I waste alot of glue. I am not a fast builder and I figured that it would help me control this process. The total cost was $15.00 to make. It will last a life time. -

I show you how to use Hot Glue and Velcro to manage all of your desktop devices and the cable mess that comes with them. I hope you find this video useful and it shows you a whole new use for that hot glue gun you have laying around that only comes out for random crafting projects.

Glue used in video was Stanley hot melt clear and is easy to remove from the devices using a scraper while it's warm. Different types of glue may yeild different results so test an area first before proceeding with your whole project to make sure you have glue that works well for your application. I found that my glue worked well in every application I tried.

I created a Video to show how to make or fabricate a Temperature control for my hot glue gun. This application is used when I make styrofoam planes for the hobby that I enjoy. The glue gun gets super hot when it is idol. The glue is so hot is melts my foam. I have to express glue out until I reach the glue that is the proper temperature to use. I waste alot of glue. I am not a fast builder and I figured that it would help me control this process. The total cost was $15.00 to make. It will last a life time.

Lucky Penny Thoughts: We had a lot of requests for this set! I was looking forward to learning about it and seeing what it does. Once I got the hang of it and tried it out, I realized it was easy to do and fun! It really felt like cake decorating when you are adding frosting, but it was easier with the Doh Vinci gun then a piping bag! It was easy to wipe up and start over. As you can see from the video in the 24hrs it was not rock hard, but still somewhat pliable. It is a fun art project and I know my kids will love making things with it.
