Marang (Artocarpus odoratissimus) Origin: Borneo, Palawan, Mindanao My first review during my trip through the Philippines and this one is a big one. The Marang is an Artocarpus fruit that you can only find in parts of the Philippines and Borneo. Its related to Jackfruit and Cempedak, but far more tasty. http://www.palawan-philippines.com Believe you me, when I say it is really good! I was first introduced to it 3.5 years ago in 2011 while living in Mindanao. The Madang Fruit comes from a tree that is native to Palawan and Mindanao Philippines. Also native to Borneo. Along with overall eating pleasure, I would 100% consider it better tasting and satisfying than the jackfruit. I like the jackfruit too, however. This native tree of the Philippines is strongly related to the Jackfruit, Cempedak and Breadfruit trees.
Our first time trying Marang, aka Tarap. Watch how the outer shell of this fruit just peels off when it's ripe, revealing the edible part inside. It tastes like a combination of durian, jackfruit and something extra that is hard to describe. It is amazing and we only wish we had found more of them. This fruit had been on both of our lists to try one day. We never thought we'd find it in Costa Rica since it's native to southeast Asia. We thought we'd need to travel to Indonesia or the Philippines to get it. The Marang is a part of the artocarpus family which includes Jackfruit, Mulberries, Breadfruit and Cempadak. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artocarpus_odoratissimus

We had a little taste test at the BADLADZ Beach Resort here in Puerto Galera, Philippines. The BADLADZ crew grabbed several kinds of the local fruit to include rambutan, lanzones, marang, and the notorious and controversial (seriously!) durian fruit. Rambutan is a common fruit in Southeast Asia particularly in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines. Malaysia has the most variety of cultivars, wild and cultivated propagated commercially in small orchards. It is one of the best-known fruits of Southeast Asia with Thailand being the largest producer. ------- Lanzones, or langsa, in the Philippines is the plant that is grown mostly on the southern parts of the island of Luzon, especially in Paete, Laguna, due to the species' narrow range of conditions favorable to its survival. ...
Beiß nicht gleich in jeden Apfel
er könnte sauer sein
denn auf rote Apfelbäckchen fällt man leicht herein.
Küss nicht jedes schöne Mädchen
das kann gefährlich sein
denn auf rote Apfelbäckchen fällt man leicht herein.
Ja ja ja ja
es ist nicht alles Gold was glänzt
Nein nein nein nein
es trügt auch oft der Schein
Ja ja ja ja

Nein nein nein nein

Eine schicke Ilustrierte sah ich neulich an
hundert junge hübsche Mädchen und kein einz'ger Mann
alle waren frisch und rosig
zauberhaft und süß
doch die Preisausschreibenlösung dieser Zeitung hieß
Beiß nicht gleich in jeden Apfel
er könnte sauer sein
denn auf rote Apfelbäckchen fällt man leicht herein.
Küss nicht jedes schöne Mädchen
das kann gefährlich sein
