This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. The speaker highlights the idea of bringing the arts journalism in the mainstream media and its importance in current times. It has specially become important in the developing world to spread out such a journalism so as to make it inclusive and diverse. The difference between an arts-critique and arts-journalism is one of the emphasis which comes out from her talk. She also shares some of her projects and initiatives in this direction.
Sahar Zaman is an independent arts journalist, curator and news anchor. She has recently launched Asia's first web channel on art, food and travel called Hunar TV. She also heads a design brand called Chamak Patti with Sahar Zaman.
Her art reports on television have been widely viewed and appreciated across Asia. She is currently freelancing as an independent news anchor for NewsX, writing on art and design for Tehelka, OPEN, Art & Deal, Femina, etc.
She also curates art shows with India's top galleries on news worthy issues like global conflicts, racism, environment . More recently, she has launched her own design brand of home decor and jewellery called 'Chamak Patti with Sahar Zaman'.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
