The band consists of four members: Ben Adams, Mark Read, Christian Ingebrigtsen, and Paul Marazzi (who left the band in 2002). A1 released their debut single "Be The First To Believe" in 1999, which reached number 6 on the UK Singles Chart. Their debut album "Here We Come" was released later that year and reached number 11 on the UK Albums Chart. The album was also successful in other countries such as Norway, Sweden, and the Philippines. The band's second album "The A List" was released in 2000 and included hit singles such as "Take On Me" (a cover of the classic 80s hit by A-ha) and "Same Old Brand New You". The album reached number 3 on the UK Albums Chart and was certified double platinum. A1 went on to release several more albums and singles throughout the 2000s, and also had success in Asia, particularly in the Philippines where they were very popular. The band went on hiatus in 2002, but reunited in 2009 and have since released new music and gone on tours. A1 is known for their harmonies and pop ballads, and are considered one of the most successful boy bands of the late 90s and early 2000s.
