Maggie (library)

Maggie (Multiprocess ActionScript Generic Game Interface Engine) is a programming library developed in ActionScript 3.0 to create Flash games.

General

Maggie programming is very similar to languages such as DIV or Fenix Project, which makes it very easy to develop games. Maggie is based on basic Flash components so no need to import any special package for programming with this library.

Curious George

Curious George is the protagonist of a series of popular children's books by the same name, written by Hans Augusto Rey and Margret Rey. The books feature a curious brown monkey named George, who is brought from his home in Africa by "The Man with The Yellow Hat" to live with him in a big city.

When the first story, Cecily G. and the Nine Monkeys was published in France in 1939, George was named Fifi. In the United Kingdom, George was originally called "Zozo" in 1941, apparently to avoid using the name of the then King George VI for a monkey. Books featuring the adventures of Curious George have been translated from the original French into many other languages in addition to English. The books have been adapted into several television series and films.

Creation

The series was written and drawn by the team of Hans Augusto Rey and Margret Rey. The couple fled Paris in June 1940, on self-made bicycles, carrying the Curious George manuscript with them. At first, only H. A. Rey was credited for the work in order to distinguish the Reys' books from the large number of children's books written by female authors. Later, Hans Rey was credited for the illustrations and Margret Rey for the writing. The Reys produced many other children's books, but the Curious George series was the most popular. Each book has been in continuous print since it was first published. The current United States publisher is Houghton Mifflin Harcourt of Boston.

Churchill (band)

Churchill was an alternative band from Denver. The band was founded as a two-piece by Tim Bruns and Mike Morter in 2008, but by 2009 had expanded to five members. The group self-released a self-titled EP in 2009 and a full-length titled Happy/Sad in 2011. They originally released their second EP, entitled Change in early 2012. The band signed with A&M/Octone Records later that year, after which they re-released Change. The EP reached #9 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. The title track became a hit single, reaching #17 on the Alternative Songs chart and was an iTunes Free Song of the Week in early 2013. The band had planned to release their next full length album in 2013.

Churchill served as the main supporting act during the European leg of Pink's The Truth About Love Tour.

On July 12, 2013, Churchill broke up and cancelled all upcoming appearances, according to a band representative.

Churchill LRT Station

Churchill Station is an LRT station on the Capital Line in Edmonton, Alberta. It is an underground station located beneath Churchill Square and is a part of the Edmonton Pedway system.

History

Churchill Station opened on April 22, 1978 when the LRT system first began operations.

In November 2006, Churchill became the first LRT station in Edmonton to have an exclusive ad campaign, with all ad space, as well as many other parts of the station, in the station being used by ads for Enmax.

Station layout

The station has a 129 metre long centre loading platform that can accommodate two five-car LRT trains at the same time, with one train on each side of the platform. At just under eight meters wide, the platform is narrow by current Edmonton LRT design guidelines. Access to the platform is from the concourse level by stairs and escalators located at each end of the platform. The concourse level is part of the Edmonton pedway system.

The LRT system control centre is located on the Churchill Station concourse level. The Edmonton Transit System Customer Services centre, complete with lost and found, was also located in the station before moving to City Hall in February 2013. At one time, windows allowed pedestrians to view the control centre, but these were removed in 2008.

MR (Marina and Rainer)

MR (Marina and Rainer) is a chamber opera in one act (5 scenes) by the Russian composer Nikolai Korndorf (1947–2001). The libretto by Yuri Lourié is in Russian, German, Ancient Greek and Japanese). Commissioned by the Munich Biennial, Germany, it was composed in 1989.

Premiere

The first performance was on May 20, 1994 at the Muffathalle in Munich, Germany, with the Munich Biennial Singers, Ulm Orchestra, and S. Bachli, conductor.

Plot

This is a moving story told in letters between two great poets, the Russian Marina Tsvetaeva and the Austrian Rainer Maria Rilke. They never met but their fiery relationship lasted for several months. At that time Rilke was severely ill with leukaemia and had already not written for two years. However the letters of Tsvetaeva returned him to poetry. The love of Tsvetayeva for Rilke’s poetry grew to the love of him as a person. She was ready to come and meet him in real life, but when her last letter to him was written, Rilke was already dead. As a background to this story, two other pairs of poets were added: the Ancient Greek poets Sapho and Alcaeus, and the 8th-century Japanese poets Otomo no Yakamochi and Lady Otomo no Sakanoue.

Heckler & Koch HK417

The Heckler & Koch HK417 is a battle rifle designed and manufactured by Heckler & Koch in Germany. It is a gas-operated, selective fire rifle with a rotating bolt and is essentially an enlarged HK416 assault rifle. Chambered for the full-power 7.62×51mm NATO round, instead of a less powerful intermediate cartridge, the HK417 is intended for use as a designated marksman rifle, and in other roles where the greater penetrative power and range of the 7.62×51mm NATO round are required. It has been adopted for service by a number of armed forces, special forces, and police organizations.

Design Details

The HK417 is similar in internal design to the HK416, but the receiver and working parts are enlarged to suit the larger 7.62×51mm NATO round. The bolt is a 7-lug rotating type, which sits in a bolt carrier and operates in a forged alloy receiver resembling those of the Stoner-designed AR-10, AR-15 and M16 rifle series weapons.

Like the HK416, the HK417 is a gas-operated, with a short-stroke piston design similar to that of the Heckler & Koch G36. The short-stroke piston is more reliable than the original direct impingement operation of the AR-10 and AR-15 designs because, unlike these weapons, it does not vent propellant gases directly into the receiver, which deposits carbon fouling onto the bolt mechanism as well as heating it up;
