Dan Deacon (born August 28, 1981) is an American composer and electronic musician based in Baltimore, Maryland. Since 2003, Deacon has released eight albums under several different labels. Deacon is renowned for his live shows, where large-scale audience participation and interaction is often a major element of the performance.
Dan was born and raised in the suburban Long Island, New York community of West Babylon. He graduated from Babylon High School in 1999 where he was a member of the local ska band Channel 59 alongside Tim Daniels of The Complete Guide to Everything. He later attended the Conservatory of Music at State University of New York at Purchase in Purchase, New York where, in addition to performing his solo material, he played in many bands, including tuba for Langhorne Slim and guitar in the improvisational grindcore band Rated R, and had a small mixed chamber ensemble. He completed his graduate studies in electro-acoustic and computer music composition. He studied under composer and conductor Joel Thome and Dary John Mizelle.
Adult Swim (stylized as [adult swim] or [as]) is an American cable network that shares channel space with Cartoon Network, both of which are owned by Turner Broadcasting System, a division of Time Warner, Inc., every night from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Eastern and Pacific Time in the United States. The network is programmed by Williams Street Studios, a division of Turner Broadcasting System, which also developed two prior television programming blocks seen on Cartoon Network: Toonami (which later became a block on Adult Swim in 2012) and Miguzi. The name comes from a phrase used by public swimming pools to label designated times when children are restricted from using the facilities in favor of adults: "Adult Swim".
Debuting as a programming block on Cartoon Network in 2001, Adult Swim was established as alternative programming during the late night hours when Cartoon Network's primary target audience, children and teenagers between the ages of 7–15, would normally be sleeping. Much of Adult Swim's general content is known for its risqué, unorthodox and often bizarre presentation, while many of the series features are developed in stark contrast with traditional American television programs. The network was granted its own Nielsen ratings report due to differing target demographics, and broadcasts in countries such as Australia and New Zealand. The block features stylistically varied animated and live-action shows including original programming, syndicated series mainly consisting of Fox animated programming, short films, OVAs, and Japanese anime, generally with minimal or no editing for content.
Deacon is a ministry in the Christian Church that is generally associated with service of some kind, but which varies among theological and denominational traditions. In many traditions the "diaconate" (or deaconate), the term for a deacon's office, is a clerical office; in others it is for laity.
The word "deacon" is derived from the Greek word diákonos (διάκονος), which is a standard ancient Greek word meaning "servant", "waiting-man", "minister", or "messenger". One commonly promulgated speculation as to its etymology is that it literally means "through the dust", referring to the dust raised by the busy servant or messenger.
The title "deaconess" (διακόνισσα) is not found in the Bible. However, a woman, Phoebe, is mentioned at Romans 16:1–2 as a deacon (diakonos) of the church in Cenchreae. Nothing more specific is said about her duties or authority. It is generally believed that the office of deacon originated in the selection of seven men by the apostles, among them Stephen, to assist with the charitable work of the early church as recorded in Acts 6. Female deacons are mentioned by Pliny the Younger in a letter to Trajan dated c. 112. The exact relationship between male and female deacons varies. In some traditions a female deacon is simply a member of the order of deacons; in others, deaconesses constitute a separate order; in others, the title "deaconess" was also given to the wife of a deacon.
Ben O'Brien (born November 4, 1984) is an American comedian and filmmaker based out of Baltimore, Maryland. He is a member of the Wham City arts collective and founding member of Wham City Comedy. He has directed videos for Adult Swim and Merge Records. He is the co-creator of the web series Showbeast (2006–2013) and he manages and performs with Wham City Comedy (2010–present). The website Brightest Young Things posted this about Wham City Comedy "...you should make a point to see them, as they’re super funny and doing DIY comedy like few others."
Most prominently he co-created, along with Alan Resnick and Robby Rackleff, the late night horror prank Unedited Footage of a Bear. Which aired on Adult Swim the week of December 15, 2014.
Ben was born and raised in Oswego, New York and went on to attend college at SUNY Purchase where he met Alan Resnick. In 2008 he moved to Baltimore, Maryland where he maintains a studio at the Copycat Building and joined Wham City, an arts and music collective.

Sometime years from now I may be asked: What was your favorite day at NPR? I am likely to say it's the day Dan Deacon got the NPR staff worked up into a giant dance party! It's also the day Deacon and staff wheeled in an upright piano and connected it to his computer — a magical mix of old player piano and electronic avant-garde. Yes, Deacon makes electronic music and dance music, but it's not the thump thump thump stuff you'd go to a club for. It's a mix of Brian Eno, Philip Glass and your kids' birthday party (if you were the cool parents your kids wished they had). Dan came toting songs and that piano from his new record (which is quickly becoming my favorite of his), Gliss Riffer. The party really kicked into gear with the second song. And by the end you'll find me and my All Songs C...

Few high-profile musicians could disappear into the SXSW crowd as seamlessly as Dan Deacon, who doesn't exactly cut a lithe, otherworldly, Mick Jagger-esque figure offstage. But everything about his set at Stubb's on Wednesday night was a raving, raging bundle of surprises: Deacon puts on some of the most rivetingly unpredictable, oddly interactive concerts in the business, whether he's teaching the crowd how to move in choreographed unison — witness the dance contest that precedes "Konono Ripoff No. 1" — or issuing a long spoken riff that somehow invokes both Avatar and the mom from the movie Big. Bookended by busy drummers and looming over an array of technology that looks as if it could power a small spacecraft — not to mention a large glowing skull, film projections and a prolific a...

Electronic music producer and composer Dan Deacon is one of the ringleaders of the burgeoning Baltimore art scene, serving as the musical director for a progressive group of fellow artists and filmmakers. But he's also made a name for himself as a dynamic live performer – he spent the past year opening for Arcade Fire on their North American arena tour -- successfully breaking the boundaries between the artist and an often-jaded audience. Cleverly mixing high-minded concepts with low-brow pop sensibilities, Deacon has carved a niche for himself as one of the more unique performers around. Watch / Listen to the full session here:

Speaker: Dan Deacon Absurdist composer and electronic musician, Dan Deacon, is based in Baltimore, Maryland. Musically influenced by Devo, Talking Heads, Scratch Orchestra, People Like Us, Raymond Scott and Conlon Nancarrow, Danʼs music strives to take contemporary experimental composition and electronic music out of the circle of the esoteric intellectual gangs and hipster communities, placing it into the more informal "fun time." His high-energy performances consist of song-structured material performed with Casio keyboard, computer, vocoder and many whosits and whatsits to process his voice and signal generator. He is currently working with Oscar-winning director Francis Ford Coppola on the score for his new film, "Twixt Now and Sunrise." Host: Anthony McCarthy For more than a deca...
Dan Deacon is back in Australia, showcasing his new album, Gliss Riffer, at festivals across the country including the Sydney Festival, Tasmania’s MONA FOMA and today’s Sugar Mountain Festival. He spoke to Music Feeds about his artistic process, and how moving out from the mainstream can lead to inspiration. “It’s been a while since I produced and engineered a record, so it was a big mental shift to go back to composing and then knowing that I would be the one finalising the sounds,” explains Deacon on his decision to self-produce his latest record. Deacon also talked us through all the equipment he experimented with on Gliss Riffer and the process of creating those layered sounds. “It’s like cooking. I want it to have as complex of a flavour as possible but the flavours need to complime...

WARNING: THIS VIDEO CONTAINS OFFENSIVE CONTENT We would like to extend our sincere apology for this interview. Dan Deacon's people had been hounding us to interview him for weeks, and we eventually acquiesced. At that time, we had NO IDEA about Mr. Deacon's negative feelings towards cats. (How could we? He has a song called "Crystal Cat.") Had we known about his hatred in advance, we never would have gone forward with this interview. American Friendship takes journalistic standards very seriously. We are now working with an outside company who will perform background checks on all our interviewees to ensure that their appreciation for cats is good and true. You deserve that. Your cats deserve that. And it's the least we can do. Thank you all for supporting us in what has been a truly diffi...

Join us for a interview with Dan Decon. This Baltimore-based musician and composer hooks listeners with strong melodic lines, immersed in a sea of competing rhythmic structures, distorted sound samples, and synthesized and acoustic textures. Dan was with us at the Exploratorium on December 12, 2014, for this conversation with Resonance curator Wayne Grim, and a fantastic music performance. There is a mountain of snow
Up past the big glen
We have a castle enclosed
There is a fountain
Out of the fountain flows gold
Into a huge hand
That hand's a held by a bear
Who had a sick band
Of ghosts and cats and pigs and bats
With brooms and bats and wings and rats
And play big dogs like queens and kings
And everyone plays drums and sings
'Bout big sharks
Sharp swords
Beast bees
Bead lords
Sweet cakes
Mace lakes
O MA MA MA MA MA MA MA MA
I hope in my heart that we on a whole
will die and the earth be left alone
just beast and bee and fish and tree
this hope I wish will someday be
that bacteria will have ate our remains
that all knowledge of us has decayed
our burden raised the world set free
the earth returns to land and sea
our buildings burned and highways gone
I love my friends and everyone
but we've had our chance let's move aside
