Twentynine Palms (also 29 Palms) is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. It was previously called Twenty-Nine Palms. The population was 25,048 at the 2010 census.
Twentynine Palms is located at 34°8′18″N 116°4′21″W / 34.13833°N 116.0725°W / 34.13833; -116.0725 (34.138277, -116.072409).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 59.1 square miles (153 km2), all land.
The city is in a desert and mountain area. Located there are Joshua Tree National Park and Park Headquarters, and Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms. It is located on California State Route 62 and is north of Interstate 10 in California.
It is located at an elevation of 1,991 feet (607 m).
Located in the Mojave Desert of Southern California, the town has experienced some high temperatures. On July 17, 2005, the temperature reached a record 119 °F (48 °C). The record low temperature was 9 °F (−13 °C), established on December 23, 1990.
Twentynine Palms was named for the palm trees located in the Oasis of Mara, at the Joshua Tree National Park headquarters. When the area was settled by gold miners in the late 19th century, there were 29 palm trees growing in the oasis, most of which are still standing today.

Robert Anthony Plant, CBE (born 20 August 1948) is an English singer and songwriter best known as the vocalist and lyricist of the iconic rock band Led Zeppelin. He has also had a successful solo career. In 2007, Plant released Raising Sand, an album produced by T-Bone Burnett with American bluegrass soprano Alison Krauss, which won the 2009 Grammy Award for Album of the Year at the 51st Grammy Awards.
With a career spanning more than 40 years, Plant is regarded as one of the most significant singers in the history of rock music, and has influenced contemporaries and later singers such as Freddie Mercury and Axl Rose. In 2006, heavy metal magazine Hit Parader named Plant the "Greatest Metal Vocalist of All-Time". In 2009, Plant was voted "the greatest voice in rock" in a poll conducted by Planet Rock. In 2011, a Rolling Stone readers' pick placed Plant in first place of the magazine's "Best Lead Singers of All Time".
Plant was born in the Black Country town of West Bromwich (then in Staffordshire now in West Midlands) to parents Robert C. who worked as a civil engineer and Annie C. (Cain) Plant, but grew up in Kidderminster, in Worcestershire. Plant gained an interest in singing and rock and roll music at an early age.

Big 6 29 Palms GP Rd 3 Race 3 Vet 30 novice. i CRASH 2ND LAP, then my camera broke off, and that was the end of my footage. so the crash is at the end. I still managed to get 6th, even though I also crashed 3rd lap after some guy took me wide and ran into me. it appeared that he was trying to not let me pass, he took the turn to hot and ran us both off the track. I ended up falling, he didnt, Lame. -

Hilltoppers Wild West 29 Palms Grand Prix! April 5th 2014. Race 4 Magnum Lightweight Intermediate. The course layout was basically the same as is previous years, which is great, alot of fast sand areas, some up and downhills, not really any single track or large rock sections, plenty of whooped out braking bumps and a long asphalt straight, throw in a small endurocross section complete with mud bog and you have it! I had a good ride, no crashes :-) and clean passes, ended up with a well earned 3rd. good stuff. -

I still managed to get 6th, even though I also crashed 3rd lap after some guy took me wide and ran into me. it appeared that he was trying to not let me pass, he took the turn to hot and ran us both off the track. I ended up falling, he didnt, Lame.

Hilltoppers Wild West 29 Palms Grand Prix! April 5th 2014. Race 4 Magnum Lightweight Intermediate. The course layout was basically the same as is previous years, which is great, alot of fast sand areas, some up and downhills, not really any single track or large rock sections, plenty of whooped out braking bumps and a long asphalt straight, throw in a small endurocross section complete with mud bog and you have it! I had a good ride, no crashes :-) and clean passes, ended up with a well earned 3rd. good stuff.

Lance Corporal Seeger was one of several hundred who had combat experience in recent deployments abroad. They were mustered in a mess hall to take the 46-question survey. It was administered by US Navy Lt. Commander Ernest "Guy" Cunningham, who was working on a Master's Thesis dealing with the deployment of US military units under foreign command as part of UN-supervised missions abroad.
Marines were asked about their willingness to serve under the operational command of foreign military officers, and if they would be willing to swear an oath of allegiance to the United Nations. But the final question was positively thermonuclear. Quote:
"The US government declares a ban on the possession, sale, transportation, and transfer of all non-sporting firearms. A thirty (30) day amnesty period is permitted for these firearms to be turned over to the local authorities. At the end of this period, a number of citizen groups refuse to turn over their firearms. Consider the following statement: I would fire upon US citizens who refuse or resist confiscation of firearms banned by the US government."
Even in that pre-Internet era, news of the Twentynine Palms "Combat Arms Survey" went viral -- through fax networks, talk radio, and word of mouth. Lt. Cmndr. Cunningham was accused by many as promoting civilian disarmament, or the transfer of the US military to UN control. In fact, he supported neither of those objectives. Instead, he was using his survey to determine the extent to which such policy choices would have the support of military personnel who had served in combat abroad.
When Cunningham released his findings it was revealed that more than 61 percent of the Marines who took the survey responded that they wouldn't carry out such an order under any circumstances.
Now, twenty years later, we are being told that for young military officers, willingness to fire on U.S. citizens is a prerequisite for promotion. We see the U.S. military perpetually deployed overseas in multi-lateral "peacekeeping" and "nation-building" missions, often at the direction of the UN Security Council. And there are ominous developments on the civilian disarmament front, as well.
How have things changed since the Twentynine Palms Combat Arms Survey? We will have the privilege of discussing that question with Lt. Commander Cunningham himself. Lt. Commander, thank you so much for joining us today.
