Groove Armada

Groove Armada are an English electronic music duo from London, composed of Andy Cato and Tom Findlay. They achieved chart success with their singles "I See You Baby" and "Superstylin'". The group has released eight studio albums, four of which have charted in the UK Albums Chart top 50.

History

Groove Armada first formed in the mid-1990s after both Cato and Findlay had been introduced by Cato's wife and soon started their own club, also called Groove Armada, after a 1970s discothèque.

By 1997 they had released a few singles, including "4 Tune Cookie" and the song that first brought them minor fame, "At the River", which sampled "Old Cape Cod" by Patti Page (used in the film Die Hard 2). The song went on to be one of Groove Armada's best-known tracks and has been found on numerous chill out compilations.

Their first album, Northern Star, was released in 1998 on Tummy Touch Records, and was followed by a second, Vertigo, in 1999, which had a more mainstream and 'polished' sound, thus making the UK Album Chart's upper 20 and being certified silver in the UK. It also included "At the River" which was re-released as a full-fledged single. An album of remixed tracks from Vertigo entitled The Remixes followed in 2000, along with their contribution to the Back to Mine mix album series.

Demetri Martin

Demetri Evan Martin (born May 25, 1973) is an American comedian, actor, artist, musician, writer, and humorist. He is best known for his work as a stand-up comedian, being a contributor on The Daily Show, and his Comedy Central show Important Things with Demetri Martin.

Early life

Martin was born on May 25, 1973 to a Greek American family in New York City, New York, the son of nutritionist Lillian and Greek Orthodox priest Dean C. Martin (now deceased). He grew up in Toms River, New Jersey, and has a younger brother named Spyro.

Martin graduated from Yale University in 1995. During his time there, he wrote a 224-word poem about alcoholism as a project for a fractal geometry class, which became a well known palindromic poem. He was also a member of the Anti-Gravity Society, whose members juggle objects on Sunday evenings on Yale's Old Campus.

Although Martin was accepted into Harvard Law School, he went to New York University School of Law after he received a full scholarship. Martin withdrew from law school before the start of his final year, opting to pursue comedy over finishing his Juris Doctor.

Rubia

Rubia is a genus of flowering plants in the Rubiaceae family. It contains around 80 species of perennial scrambling or climbing herbs and subshrubs native to the Old World. The genus and its best-known species are commonly known as madder, e.g. Rubia tinctorum (common madder), Rubia peregrina (wild madder), and Rubia cordifolia (Indian madder).

Uses

Rubia was an economically important source of a red pigment in many regions of Asia, Europe and Africa. Several species, such as Rubia tinctorum in Europe, Rubia cordifolia in India, and, Rubia argyi in east Asia, were extensively cultivated from antiquity until the mid nineteenth century. The genus name Rubia derives from the Latin ruber meaning "red".

The plant's roots contain an organic compound called Alizarin, that gives its red colour to a textile dye known as Rose madder. It was also used as a colourant, especially for paint, that is referred to as Madder lake. The invention of a synthesized duplicate, an anthracene compound called alizarin, greatly reduced demand for the natural derivative.

Odd Blood

Odd Blood is the self-produced second studio album by American experimental rock band Yeasayer. Recorded in the state of New York during 2009, it was released on February 8, 2010 in Europe and a day later in North America, with Secretly Canadian as the primary label. "Ambling Alp", "O.N.E.", "Madder Red", and "I Remember" were released as singles. Odd Blood peaked at number 63 on the U.S. Billboard 200 and at number 64 on the UK Albums Chart. It reached number five on the U.S. Billboard Independent Albums chart. Yeasayer followed the record's release with an extended tour throughout 2010.

Odd Blood was mostly crafted with engineer Steve Revitte in a secluded cabin studio. During the sessions, Yeasayer experimented with different types of instruments and recording machines. Auxiliary musicians were hired to help with the process. The idea was to marry sonic experimentation with pop structures, while primary songwriters Chris Keating and Anand Wilder explored a variety of themes such as boxing, addiction, and paranoia. Odd Blood also contains several love songs. The album received largely positive reviews from critics. Praise centered on its cohesive merging of genres, especially the pop-influenced rhythms.

Madder Mortem

Madder Mortem is a Norwegian progressive metal band. They were formed in 1993 as Mystery Tribe, but changed the name to Madder Mortem in 1997. The group released a full-length album, Mercury, in 1999, but the band's label folded soon after its release, and all but two members (Agnete and BP Kirkevaag) left the group. A new lineup recorded the All Flesh Is Grass album for a new label, Century Media, in 2001, and Deadlands followed on The End Records in 2002, after which further lineup changes ensued. The band's most recent records were released via Peaceville Records, although they parted ways with Peaceville in the late fall of 2014 and are currently seeking a new label.

On July 21, 2014, the band announced the addition of a new guitar player, Richard Wikstrand, formerly of Chrome Division.
