Best Actor is the name of an award which is presented by various film, television and theatre organizations, festivals, and people's awards to leading actors in a film, television series, television film or play. The first Best Actor award was awarded for acting in a film, on May 16, 1929 by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) at the Academy Awards to Emil Jannings for his role of Grand Duke Sergius Alexander in The Last Command and August Schilling in The Way of All Flesh. In theatre, it was first awarded on April 6, 1947 by the American Theatre Wing and The Broadway League at the Tony Awards to José Ferrer for his role of Cyrano de Bergerac in Cyrano de Bergerac and to Fredric March for his role of Clinton Jones in Years Ago. In television, it was first awarded on January 23, 1951 by Academy of Television Arts & Sciences at the Primetime Emmy Awards to Alan Young for his role of himself in The Alan Young Show. In a film festival, presented as the Volpi Cup, it was first awarded between August 1–20, 1934 by the Venice Film Festival to Wallace Beery for his role of Pancho Villa in Viva Villa!.
The Saturn Award is an award presented annually by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films to honor the top works mainly in science fiction, fantasy, and horror in film, television, and home video. The award was initially, and is still sometimes, loosely referred to as a Golden Scroll.
The Saturn Awards were devised by Dr. Donald A. Reed in 1972, who felt that films within the genres of science fiction and fantasy were never given the appreciation they deserved at that time. The physical award is a representation of the planet Saturn, with its ring(s) composed of film.
The Saturn Awards are voted on by members of the presenting Academy. The academy is a non-profit organization with membership open to the public. Its members include filmmakers Jeff Rector, Rich Correll, Tom De Santo, Mark A. Altman and Irwin Keyes, among others.
Although the awards still primarily nominate films and TV in the science fiction, fantasy and horror categories, the Saturns have also recognized productions in standard dramatic genres. There are also special awards for lifetime achievement in the field. The 40th Saturn Awards were held on June 26, 2014, in Burbank, California.
A film festival is an organized, extended presentation of films in one or more cinemas or screening venues, usually in a single city or region. Increasingly, film festivals show some films outdoors. Films may be of recent date and, depending upon the festival's focus, can include international and domestic releases. Some festivals focus on a specific film-maker or genre (e.g., film noir) or subject matter (e.g., horror film festivals). A number of film festivals specialise in short films of a defined maximum length. Film festivals are typically annual events. Some film historians do not consider Film Festivals as official releases of film, like Jerry Beck. The best known film festivals are the Venice Film Festival, the Cannes Film Festival, the Toronto Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival, and the Berlin International Film Festival, the latter being the largest film festival worldwide, based on attendance. The Venice Film Festival is the oldest major festival. The Melbourne International Film Festival is the largest film festival in the Southern Hemisphere and one of the oldest in the world. A 2013 study found 3,000 active films festivals worldwide—active defined as having held an event in the previous 24 months.

While attending the 41st Annual Saturn Awards Thursday night, we were able to snag a few minutes with Andrew Lincoln from AMC's The Walking Dead. Lincoln, who tied with Hannibal's Hugh Dancy for "Best Actor in a Television Series," was making his first appearance at the awards show thanks to some words of encouragement from Scott M. After thanking the fans for their enthusiasm, Lincoln teased about the tension between his character Rick and Lennie James' Morgan in the upcoming season, praised the show's increasingly strong writing and story-crafting each year, and promised fans new experiences for both audiences and characters alike. Lincoln also drops a strange true-life tale about meeting L.A. Clippers star Glen "Big Baby" Davis recently, saying that now basketb...

The Broadcast Film Critics Association annually hosts the CCMAs to honor outstanding cinematic achievement. It's the first award show of the season and one of the most respected; it draws a who's who of A-list Hollywood talent, making it a tent pole show for Vh1.
