The American Broadcasting Company coined the term after school special in 1972 with a series of made-for-television movies, usually dealing with controversial or socially relevant issues, that were generally broadcast in the late afternoon and meant to be viewed by school-age children, particularly teenagers. The specials were generally broadcast four to six times during the school year, pre-empting local programming that would usually follow the network schedule in the late afternoon hours.
CBS distributed its own productions as the CBS Afternoon Playhouse (later known as CBS Schoolbreak Special). It also had a program called Famous Classic Tales, which aired Australian cartoons that were adapted from literature books (similar to Family Classic Tales). NBC had afterschool programs under the umbrella title Special Treat. ABC had the ABC Afterschool Special; similar programs included the ABC Saturday Superstar Movie and the ABC Weekend Special.
After School is a 2003 film made in Singapore directed by Zhu Houren. It is based on a true story that happened in Singapore about teenagers.
The story's main character is a 16-year-old Secondary 4 student called Siao Han, whose parents abandoned him when he was young. At the start of the story, it shows Siao Han getting ready for the end of school with his best friend, his girlfriend Lily and his girlfriend's best friend. Reaching a shopping centre, they started to shoplift from various kinds of shops. Siao Han did his first try, only to get caught and reported to the police. The police team arrived, and Shao Han was shocked to find out that the leading officer of the team is his elder sister. His best friend came to his rescue, but Shao Han's sister decided to bring Shao Han to further investigations. Lily saw this and walked away in disappointment.
At home, during dinner, Shao Han was angry with his sister for arresting him in her first day leading a team. Infuriated, he went to his aunt's place to smoke and visit his cousin, Ah Xiong. Ah Xiong is his elder cousin and is a bookie, while his mother is a gambler addicted to smoking. After his sister comes and find him, Shao Han was angry once again and ran off. This was when Ah Xiong decided to confess his plan of wooing Siao Han's sister.
Rob Lowe plays a teenage boy who finds out his ex-girlfriend (Dana Plato) just gave birth to his baby. Instead of allowing the child to be placed up for adoption as the girl wants, he decides to try to raise it himself.
After School Specials teach us to say no to smoking, drugs and sex. Thank God, no one learned anything from them. http://www.liquidgeneration.com/0d2ee0ac

This is the drug scare film Stoned, starring Scott Baio, reproduced in its entirety. Baio's character is a friendless high school nerd who can't get girls. Upon his discovered of the devil's weed however, he attains charisma and class clownhood, as well as a neon wardrobe and 80's skateboard. Of course, his life slowly begins to unravel, until eventually...well, you'll just have to watch. This film has been left behind in the dustbin of film history, and exists mostly via bootlegs and as a truncated set of 9 parts here on youtube...well, just watch this whole one in one go. Without the film being here, it would have no life. There is no demand for anti-drug schoolroom propaganda such as this anymore. But none the less: Stoned, copyright 1980 Highgate Pictures, a division of Learning Corpo...

To my good friend Tatjana (TaMaLu08). I posted this episode just for YOU!! I hope you like it. Here is the story: Dewey (Michael LeClair) is left at home with his grandmother (Nora Denney), when his parents take the wagon down river to the stockade so Dewey's mother can give birth. Dewey hears rumors of renegades terrorizing the settlers, so he builds a raft to take his grandmother and dog down the river to join his parents. The original airdate was 11/12/1977. Here is another story that I enjoyed as a kid. It's called The Pinballs, originally aired on 10/26/1977. It's about three kids, each with both haunting and often humorous backgrounds, form a friendship while in a foster home. Thomas J., Harvey, and Carlie help each other realize that their life is ahead of them. No Copyright infringement intended. Made for fun, not for profit.

Carol Jones stars as Francesca James, a teenage daughter dealing with her alcoholic mother through the support group Ala-Teen. The original airdate was 10/6/1976. No Copyright infringement intended. Made for fun, not for profit.
Starring a young Ricki Lake filmed shortly after she filmed Hairspray. (1988) Also stars child actress Judith Barsi (1978--1988) may she rest in peace. Judith was shot to death this same year along with her mother at a tender age of 10 by her father, who then shot himself. Includes the wonderful Tonya Crowe who is best known for her role as Olivia Cunningham on Knots Landing during the 1980s. A real classic! I remember recording this to VHS cassette when I was only 13 years old. The bus was running late so didn't get home from school in time to catch the beginning of the episode. Through a strange twist of fate ironically another YouTube user uploaded the beginning of the episode here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZY-Ze1BSQYQ
As Amy is adjusting to her parents divorce and her and her mother's subsequent move to a new town, her life is made even more complicated when she is befriended by the emotionally disturbed Michelle Mudd.

i fought it forever, between the now and never
hide behind my feelings, like a game of hide & seek
i wanted you badly, you looked at me so sadly
i'm mounting my eyes, with this could never be
'cause i like her and you're like me
[chorus:]
so can't you see, i'm open for a change
this was never easy, and it's never been so strange
to fall for that girl, that falls for all the girls
it's just not right
welcome to the after school special of my life
if we were together, i'd make your heart surrender
no more watching girls go by, i'd make her stay at home
i'd wear what you told me, as long as you will hold me
like a man, and understand, that this is not impossible
[chorus]
[bridge:]
this got so complicated, common interest separate
the fine print on the label of your life is never told
one shot missed and two got wasted
three's a charm but hesitating,
i will never mean to you what you will mean to me
i fought it forever, between the now and never
[chorus]
