Lands that are soaked in water are called wetlands. Wetlands are highly productive and provide place and food resources for a wide range of species.
There are different types of Wetland regions found in different places in world, such as Hudson Bay in Western America, Bogs Wetlands, Coastal wetlands.
An interesting fact about how wetlands became home to various animals is, with the development of civilized humans started conquering forests forcing the wild animals to flee. There was no place for animals to survive. So they migrated and took refuge in wetlands. Benefits provided by the wetlands cannot be measured in money, but if the wetlands were to disappear from the face of earth, the world would surely be a poor place to live in.

A research group at the Technical University of Catalonia has built a constructed wetlands pilot plant in the Laboratory in the Environmental Division. Results obtained will serve to improve the efficiency of future systems.
The pilot plant is constructed such that analysis can be carried out to evaluate the efficiency of different operational parameters.
In our larger cities, complex and highly technical processes are used to treat our wastewater. These conventional treatment plants are expensive and also require a lot of energy. For smaller populations, conventional treatment plants are often not suitable. This may be a function of cost, energy or even the lack of infrastructure or skilled labour, needed to construct and maintain conventional waste water treatment plants.
Constructed wetlands are simple wastewater treatment systems. They consist of shallow tanks filled with a gravel layer and planted with emergent rooted wetland plants such as the common reed. These plants are well-adapted to live in flooded conditions found in wetlands. As the wastewater flows through the gravel and the roots of the reeds, pollutants are progressively removed.
The aim of the pilot plant is scientific research, but it also functions as a demonstration project. Thus the pilot plant serves to encourage the use of constructed wetland technology, while also proving to be a successful educational tool.

Wetlands provide many valuable services that are important for our quality of life in Delaware. They help purify our waters by filtering out pollutants and provide habitat for fish and wildlife species. Wetlands protect our coast from storms and protect homes and property from flooding by acting like sponges to absorb stormwater. They provide recreational opportunities while adding natural beauty. As we lose wetlands to human or natural causes we lose these valuable services. MODULAR WETLAND SYSTEMS, INC.
The Modular Wetland System Linear is the only stormwater system to utilize Horizontal Flow Biofiltration. The MWS Linear replicates natural processes to remove a variety of pollutants from stormwater runoff including fine TSS, bacteria, oils & grease, heavy metals and harmful nutrients like nitrate and phosphorus. While most systems utilize a single treatment method, the MWS Linear incorporates screening, hydrodynamic separation, sorbtive media filtration, and bioretention into a single system. Completely modular, the MWS Linear can either replace standard stormwater inlets or function perfectly in an online or offline design to replace downward flow systems. Perfect for green design and sustainable projects.
