Nettilling Lake
Nettilling Lake [nech'iling] is a cold freshwater lake located toward the south end of Baffin Island, Nunavut, Canada. It is also the world's largest lake on an island, with an area of 5,542 km2 and a maximum length of 123 km. The lake is in the Great Plain of the Koukdjuak about 280 km northwest of Iqaluit. The Arctic Circle crosses the lake. The lake's name is of Inuktitut origin, coming from the word for the adult ringed seal (netsilak). Franz Boas explored its southern shore in 1883.
Nettilling is the largest lake in Nunavut. It is fed by the second largest lake on Baffin Island, Amadjuak Lake and several other smaller lakes and streams. It empties west via the very shallow Koukdjuak River into Foxe Basin. The eastern half has many small islands and the western half is deeper with no islands. The lake is frozen for most of the year. Ringed seals live in the lake and only three species of fish have been recorded there: the Arctic char as well as the ninespine and threespine stickleback. The tundra around the lake and south to Amadjuak Lake is important for barren-ground caribou feeding and calving.

Another peak of note is Mount Asgard, located in Auyuittuq National Park, with an elevation of 2,011 m (6,598 ft). Mount Thor, with an elevation of 1,675 m (5,495 ft), is said to have the greatest purely vertical drop of any mountain on Earth, at 1,250 m (4,100 ft). The two largest lakes on the island lie in the south-central part of the island: Nettilling Lake (5,542 km2 (2,140 sq mi)) and Amadjuak Lake (3,115 km2(1,203 sq mi)) further south.

Baffin Island has two large lakes: Nettilling and Amadjuak. Being a popular destination for observing Arctic wildlife, Baffin Island is famous for its arctic foxes and polar bears (along its shoreline), arctic hares and lemmings (throughout), arctic wolves, stoats, beluga whales, ringed seals, various nesting birds (snowy owl, gyrfalcon, white goose, canadian goose).

North America has a lot of lakes that are pretty great, including the Great Salt lake, the Great Slave Lake, and the Great Bear Lake. But North America’s greatest lakes are the North American Great Lakes, often just called the Great Lakes if you’re confident you won’t confuse them with the African Great Lakes. The Great Lakes with the greatest area are Lake Superior, Lake Huron, Lake Michigan, Lake Erie, and Lake Ontario. But these aren’t the only significant lakes in the Great Lakes watershed, the area of land that drains into the major Great Lakes, and those additional lakes are also pretty great. Let’s Explore!

Note [thanks to David Danos in the comments]: The "Great Slave Lake" has a name that the local Dene nations abhor. There are big efforts to change the name away from 'slave'-related exonyms. The Deh Cho Dene nation is just one of the four nations in whose territories this lake is found. The others are the Tłı̨chǫ, Tetsǫ́t’ıné, and Dëne Sųłıné.
CORRECTIONS:
Since Alaska is part of the continent of North America, it's more accurate to say the Northwest Angle is the only part of the 48 contiguous states above the 49th parallel north.

Nettilling Lake
Nettilling Lake [nech'iling] is a cold freshwater lake located toward the south end of Baffin Island, Nunavut, Canada. It is also the world's largest lake on an island, with an area of 5,542 km2 and a maximum length of 123 km. The lake is in the Great Plain of the Koukdjuak about 280 km northwest of Iqaluit. The Arctic Circle crosses the lake. The lake's name is of Inuktitut origin, coming from the word for the adult ringed seal (netsilak). Franz Boas explored its southern shore in 1883.
Nettilling is the largest lake in Nunavut. It is fed by the second largest lake on Baffin Island, Amadjuak Lake and several other smaller lakes and streams. It empties west via the very shallow Koukdjuak River into Foxe Basin. The eastern half has many small islands and the western half is deeper with no islands. The lake is frozen for most of the year. Ringed seals live in the lake and only three species of fish have been recorded there: the Arctic char as well as the ninespine and threespine stickleback. The tundra around the lake and south to Amadjuak Lake is important for barren-ground caribou feeding and calving.
